I'm trying to decide if I should get the AP or not and I'm noticing while there in January, 2 of the days are blocked out. I was planning on doing Hollywood on one of those days but the other we were hoping to get in the park. Any tricks to get in? or do I have to buy a 1 day pass....ugh! thank you

They no longer sell block out day passes. Those were $50 and great, so of course they had to discontinue them. So your only choices would be a 1 day pass or upgrade to a premium pass. With the premium pass you will get bigger discounts while you are there. It will take some math, but maybe 1 premium and the others a 1 day pass would be the best financially.

don't buy tickets on craigslist, or ebay, or anywhere that's not legal. There have been numerous threads of tickets that don't work being sold on those sites. That's why Disney only sells 5 day tickets now and takes your picture is because of all the illegal reselling of tickets.

Block out day passes were $84 and very close to the cost of a 1 day ticket at the time they were discontinued anyway. One option is if it's your first trip on the AP to buy a ticket instead and then upgrade after all the block out days on your trip. You can activate a new AP or upgrade on a block out, so if the block outs fall early in the trip you won't miss out on too many discounts.

Like the PP said, if you haven't already bought an AP, get a regular ticket first. Use it on the blocked days then upgrade before the end off your last day.

Buy a multi day ticket, use it on the blocked out day, and then upgrade after that.

Thanks everyone! I should've added that I will be there in October and then in January. So would have to buy in October. It's January that the block out dates are in. Looks like it's a 1 day ticket... Bummer!

Then yes, that is your only option. Since it doesn't look like you're a SoCal resident, it might be worth upgrading from the deluxe to the premium for the extra discounts and free parking. You'd have to do the math.

Does anyone know if I buy a deluxe AP when I go in October am I able to upgrade to premium in January? This would offset some of the money being spent....

Yes, you can upgrade any time during your AP year. They don't prorate, so it will be the full $220 difference. But t spreads the cost out into 2 payments that way.

The only issue with waiting to upgrade until January is that you then won't be getting the additional discount percentage. The longer you have the premium, the more money you will save to offset the additional cost.

There are a few way to get in on a blockout day:

  • Purchase of a new Annual Pass.
  • First day of use/activation of a new Annual Pass.
  • Renewal of an Annual Pass IN PERSON at a ticket booth.
  • Upgrades to an Annual Pass from daily tickets.
  • Upgrades to a higher level Annual Pass.
