Can you book two rooms for same time frame?

i am looking into purchasing a 120 pt resale. If we bank and borrow we will have 360 pts to use. My question is are you allowed to book two rooms for the same time frame? We would like to have a 1 BR for our family (2 adults, 3 kids) and book a studio for my in laws. I know that there are some 2 BR but I have also heard they are difficult to get plus we would like a little space from the in laws.

Just wondering if there are restrictions in doing this.

You may book more than one room, you just need to put them under different names. There are more 2Br than you might think but the idea of a little personal space is a good idea. Just remember, and this is like beating a dead horse, but buy where you want to stay most of the time.

As others have said you definitely can as long as it is for different names. However in case you hadn't noticed a studio plus a 1 bedroom typically costs more points than a 2 bedroom unit. If you book a lock off 2 bedroom you actually get a studio and a 1 bedroom with a connecting door (and you could leave that locked if you wanted to). Just a suggestion to save you some points :)
Also not sure of the age of your kids but if they are younger and your in laws would put them to bed it might be a way to have a date night ;)
FWIW studios are often the first to book up as many DVC members like to stretch their points.

More points will be required for a 1BR plus a separate studio versus booking a 2BR for the same resort. But I can understand the need for some space too. You could book a lockoff and then just close the connecting door for when you want privacy. We got a lock off 2BR with my nephew and his family and worked great. We had our own kitchenette, so didn't need to bother them in the morning either as we got up earlier than they did.

Book a 2 BR lockoff so you have some privacy while enjoying the savings of the 2 BR over getting them separately. Otherwise I'd likely get two 1BR villas if you can.

I don't think it's accurate that you have to book multiple rooms in different names. Just earlier this week I had 3 rooms booked for the same night under the same names.

The answer is it depends. DVC will insist you not have one person listed in more than one room but it's technically possible to do so. The computer system will accept it.

They generally won't reserve that way if they know but often they don't know or the reservation might be made online. We had four 1BR villas at SSR a couple of weeks ago through RCI, all were in my name initially and 3 at one time. When I called to make requests (only had 3 at that time), they wouldn't give me the reservation numbers until I'd changed the names around so there was no duplication (they didn't remove me from one they intended to). They also tried to tell me I had to get guest certificates for two of them but no way am I paying a guest certificate for a room when I'm there to check in. They ended up talking to RCI and changing the names directly. I then got another room also in my name and they hadn't completed one of the original changes. So I ended up with 3 villas in my name. The main issue is that MB won't work in all but one. I'd suggest making sure there are unique names that match a magic band one has access to if possible. Maybe someone else knows the answer to this but it looks like it may be possible for them to key the room to a specific band rather than an account so if one has multiple bands, they could possibly even bypass this issue. You would have to go to the front desk to do so if possible though.

I agree if you book online you definitely can book 2 rooms for the same night with the same people in the room-but it is technically not allowed. I was trying to piece together a short stay for May back in February the night before before the Poly booking opened so when a couple days popped up at BC and BLT I booked them both temporarily (even though one of the nights was the same for both) b/c I was trying to get a continuous stay at one or the other. The next day when the Poly bookings opened I called member services to cancel those bookings and book the poly and member services was all upset because I had two rooms booked for the same night, that this is never allowed and that they had to cancel one of them immediately (which I was asking them to do anyway). So just a word of warning if for some reason member services is at all involved with your duplicate booking (either when you make it or if you call in later for room req, DME, dining plan, etc) they are not supposed to allow you to hold 2 reservations for the same people for the same day and may give you a hard the. This is why many suggested using your middle name.

Just to share different experiences, I've talked to MS twice in the last week or so when I had multiple reservations booked for the same night with the exact same names. Even talked to one of the CMs about having more than reservation, and they didn't say anything about it being against the rules. Once even gave me a tip about having multiple reservations and am active waitlist.

As with a few things DVC, none of us may know what the actual policy is vs what individual CMs say or do.

same here. we had 3 identical rooms booked under the same name with same length of stay. 3 x animal kingdom value studio.
this was pre-magic bands so i am not sure if that adds any wrinkles to it.

This has only been an issue the last couple of years.

To the OP - you mention getting a 1-bedroom and a studio because it will be easier than getting a 2-bedroom. This is generally not true. Studios are typically the HARDEST to get, while Grand Villas are second, followed by 2-bedrooms, and then 1-bedrooms the easiest.

A two bedroom lock-off is a studio and a 1-bedroom with a door in between. It will actually cost you slightly less points booking it as one than booking the two separately. Obviously if all the studios at that particular resort are booked, the lock-offs will be as well. However, if you are booking at your home resort, you should generally have no problem getting this. (Unless its VGF.)

We book multiple rooms all the time when friends come with us. I typically book rooms that save me the most points. Sometime we have had a 2 bedroom and sometimes we have done to studios. I'm all about using the least amount of points. Means more vacation in the future.

Easy.

I'll add one thing - the rooms are easy. Bringing family and friends is often more complicated than you dream about in this stage. Be realistic about what added expense you'll take on and how likely it is that they'll go with you, and what drama will be added, etc. before making purchase decisions around guests.

(We do it all the time and its worth the added expense and bother - but its way harder than I thought when I was buying).
