Spending a few days at Yosemite at Christmas time, should I bring snow jackets?

End of our Aussie winter and everything is on sale, should I bring it just in case?

Yes I would, hard saying what the weather is like up there. But always check the weather the week you are coming. Sometimes weather can be warm as well. I was camping up in Big Bear and it was the first weekend of june and it snowed. All the women only had shorts talk about freezing.

Thanks mate.

I certainly don't want to freeze LOL

I wish I had a crystal ball...

Beware that you may be required to carry tire chains for your car.

We're staying at Tenaya and will get the YARTS right into the park, any idea if we needs chains to get to the hotel if we're coming in from San Francisco??

If you're taking YARTS into the park you won't be required to have chains.

Do you mean Tenaya Lodge? That's just south of the park on CA-41. YARTS will have their winter schedule up eventually.

It's at high enough of an elevation that there could be snow. However, I wouldn't expect that you would need chains. I've been there in the winter, and didn't see any snow on CA-41 at all, but did see people chaining up their vehicles before entering the park. There was a chain requirement on Wawona Road when I saw that.

The YARTS buses should be OK in winter. I believe they have chains if needed or may use winter tires.

Thanks bcla, this is a whole new thing for us, we've only travelled to the U.S when the weather is warmer in the earlier months, so we're flying blind.

Yosemite will be a real change of pace for us, and being from Oz Christmas is usually 35+degree celsius so we're hoping for some snow LOL
