Two Geeks and A 9/16 At-Home Disney-ish Wedding - We're married!

Moving to Florida, Part 8: The Conclusion (Or Is It?)

We're all moved in! I know it's been a bit since I last had a proper update, but we currently don't have internet at our place. So we've been relegated to data on our phones, WIFI at McDonald's, and the business center at our complex (which is only open when the office is, which is annoying, but what can you do).

The apartment is still a little bit of a wreck, but we're getting there. I might post pictures later, but it'll likely have to wait until I have the opportunity to go somewhere with WIFI (I'm at the business center right now). It's bigger than we thought it would be, but still not as big as our old place, which is just fine. We never used our dining room anyway. It's a nice little place, and we really like it. We're probably going to stay here until we decide to either A) move out of Kissimmee, B) buy a house, or C) get pregnant. Whichever comes first.

We've used two of my remaining guest passes (once for MK/DHS just to get out of the apartment, and once for MK for his birthday) and are saving the third one for next week. We still haven't decided which park we're going to, but we can figure that out later. I have some pictures, but I can't post them right now. We also met @elphie101 and her husband while they were at MK! When we were at MK for his birthday, we did a heck of a lot of stuff, more than we thought we'd have time to do. We also got caught in a massive rainstorm that day. We've spent a few days wandering around the resorts, which has been fun.

So, the news... Matt had his in-person interview with Disney on Tuesday, and thankfully I was off work, since he was too nervous to drive himself there (and he probably would've gotten lost). Well, he had no reason to be nervous, because he got the job! He has Traditions on September 8 and starts immediately after that. He got hired for monorails. It's PT for right now, but they did offer him FT. He just couldn't take it because the start date for that was a full three weeks after the start date for PT, which we couldn't afford to wait for. So, yay! :yay:

Next week, we have a site visit scheduled with DFTW to take a look at some of the venues we're curious about. We know what two of them are and are trying to figure out a third one we might want to go see. Our anniversary is next Wednesday and we were going to go to MK for the day (I even managed to get a reservation for Be Our Guest), but we just don't have the money and won't until Thursday. So we're doing something on Thursday, either before or after the site visit.

And that's pretty much all that's going on right now. Hopefully we'll be able to get the internet installed in a couple of weeks, but we'll see how that goes.

That's good news! What does "working in monorails". I'm guessing not a driver, but maybe one of the guys who opens the gates and puts the HA ramp out for the guests when they are getting on and off? :confused3

Yayyyy for getting hired and YAYYYYY for imminent full time!! That was going to be my first question.

It was of course, so lovely to see you guys this week!! This post is coming to you live from MCO. Do we ever have to go home?

Glad you're settling into the new place well enough!

Congrats for getting hired! Looking forward to seeing pictures. Here's hoping that the conversion from PT to FT is straightforward.

Very! :yay:

They said that he'll be getting trained for both driving and host (gates/HA ramp/guest assistance/everything else), so that'll be fun. He's really excited about it.

I knoooow! I'm so excited, and so is he :teeth: He just got a haircut today to be within Disney look, so that's kind of funny (he had them shave off his sideburns, so now his beard isn't connecting to anything and it's just amusing me).

Unfortunately, yeah, you guys had to go home :( I hope you're able to come back soon! It looked like you guys had a great trip :)

We're still settling (and still needing to unpack some things, but with my schedule and his ADD, it's a little overwhelming). Moving is such an annoying process.

Congrats for getting hired! Looking forward to seeing pictures. Here's hoping that the conversion from PT to FT is straightforward.

I only have a couple of pictures from the site visits (yes, plural, we had to do two, and possibly a third one once he looks at the documentation again), but I do have a pic from when he had his interview and random park days and today (we went mini golfing after the site visit). Yes, I'm that weird person.

Amazing!! Congratulations!!

Thanks! :yay:

This is all good news! Congrats Matt!!
Site visit, sounds like fun. Pics pics pics!!

He says thanks! :dance3: Like I told PIO, I unfortunately don't have many pics. I completely forgot to take any on the site visit. So I just have pictures of our park days and when we went mini golfing today.

I'll be posting about the site visits shortly. I've only got about twenty minutes in the computer lab before it closes for the night. I feel so bad that I'm so far behind on everyone's threads, but it's just impossible for me to keep up with everything on my phone and we can't get the internet hooked up just yet.

Site Visits Aplenty!

Typically people only get the one site visit, right? Usually because they're here for a trip and that's all they have time for on their schedule and the DFTW team's schedule? Well, we so far have had two. Last week's was a washout because of a huge storm that rolled in right as we got there (and rolled away right as we were about to leave, go figure), as well as the fact that the sites we wanted to see were both booked by internal events. So Michelle went over other things, like guest counts and general figures and things like that. We also set up a tentative second appointment for today so that we could actually see the two venues that we were interested in. I've been saying all along that I wanted to use Atlantic Dance Hall, but we wanted to see it first, to make sure.

Unfortunately, I completely forgot to take pictures while we were actually in the locations. I do have some from Franck's, mostly just of cakes. I like wedding cakes. They're on my phone and I'm on a public computer, so they'll have to be uploaded later.

So today, we had the second visit. We met with her intern, Rachel, since Michelle was on vacation this week (I think?), and we went to see Atlantic Dance Hall and the Living Seas Salon. We saw the Living Seas first, since that was the one we really needed help with getting access to (as we can go to ADH any night when it's open as a club and see it), and if we had time available, we'd stop by ADH.

The reason that we went to see LSS is because the day before our initial appointment, DF and I had been at DHS and Epcot for our anniversary. We ended the night at Epcot and were wandering around the Seas, looking at all the fish and turtles and rays. DF told me that if we ever had the space, he'd want a large aquarium in the house (I can't remember if he said fresh or salt). I kind of gave him a funny look, since if we'd actually had a wedding back in Chicago and had been able to afford it, the location I would have wanted was the Shedd Aquarium. So we decided to see if we could see LSS, just to see what it looked like.

I am so glad we did. That space is just gorgeous. We absolutely loved it. I really wish I'd taken pictures, but it just completely slipped my mind.

Before we left Epcot, Rachel asked if we wanted to check out ADH, since we had the time. We agreed, as the only other plans we had today were mini golfing, getting Matt a haircut, and doing a little grocery shopping. We headed over there and took a look around. While it's a really great space and is beautiful, neither of us really felt like it's us. So it's still on the list, but LSS is definitely the front runner right now. As far as I remember, they're also similar in price, but we'd just have to pay a small fee for the outside photographer's media guide, which is totally fine.

After we saw ADH, we went back to Franck's to pick up our car and chit chatted with Rachel and their receptionist for a few minutes. On the way to go mini golfing (we went to Winter Summerland), we talked about the locations and decided that we definitely want to try and get LSS, if we can. Matt also mentioned that he wanted to go back over the documentation and the pics on Carrie's site to see if there were any other locations that he wanted to take a look at. So we'll be doing that sometime soon and going from there.

But, yeah! He has Traditions on Tuesday and I leave DHS for F&W a week from Sunday. As far as I know, I got his Traditions day and the day after off, so we'll most likely be going to a park once he's done (and have a change of clothes for him in the car).

So this is going to be interesting :)

I had to Google LSS as I had never heard of it, but that looks like a really cool place for a wedding reception. Would you still do a gazebo wedding? How exciting to be planning all these details!

Yay! I need to send you a PM (I'll try to send it by the end of the weekend). I had made a post on FB a little while back asking if anyone could pick up a few F&W souvenirs for my husband and I since we won't be able to make it out for it this year and you had responded that you'd be willing to help. If that is still the case, I'll send you the details via PM and we can get monies and such figured out. Thank you!

Wow! That sounds like a wonderful line in the sand. You're starting to look at locations. The Living Seas Salon sounds wonderful!

I need to start thinking and planning about getting to your wedding.

I'm so jealous of your multiple site visits! I'm so happy you were able to discover LSS and that it seems like such a great fit for you guys. I can't wait to see where else you might go - just a month and change until you're booked!!

Yes! The ceremony would be at the YCG, and then we'd bus everyone over to Epcot for the reception. We'd be required to have the buses due to the necessity of going backstage to get to LSS. But yeah, the pictures I've seen of it just don't do it justice. It's a really beautiful place.

Yeah, that's fine with me! Just send me a PM :teeth: I don't think anything is available until the festival officially kicks off on the 25th, but I could definitely still pick things up for you.

It really is a beautiful spot. I know I keep saying that, but it really is! I was telling my mom about it last night and she wants to see it now :lmao:

Yes, you do! ::yes::

Honestly, we're not sure if we'll have to do a third one. The second one was because we couldn't actually go visit the sites on the first one due to them being in use and then the rain :lmao: But yeah, LSS really seems like it'll be the right place for our reception. We were looking at the locations the night before last and I know there's one place Matt wants to see in person, but neither of us can remember what it was.

Just a month and a half or so! :yay:

OH so we are sharing MY GAZEBO???? :P

LSS is beautiful. My BFF (you'll meet her in Oct) had her reception there as well. It was so relaxing being able to see the fishes in the aquarium. And just relax. The lighting is that warm & dark, so makes it very romantic.
You'll love it!

OMG the LSS is beautiful for a reception and the YCG will be awesome for your wedding. A fairytale indeed!

Circumstances Being What They Are...

Unfortunately, Matt and I have come to the conclusion that we just can't afford to do this right now. The move cost way more than we thought and given that he still hasn't started working a regular schedule, among everything else we've got going on, we just... We can't do the Disney wedding right now. I'm obviously not thrilled, and neither is he. I'm okay with just going to the courthouse and getting married that way, but he doesn't want to. He wants to wait until next year and see if we have the money then to put the deposit down (to get married in 2017). And if we don't, then we can go to the courthouse. Apparently. I have no idea when we're actually getting married now, let alone everything else we want to do (like have babies, which he also refuses to consider until we're married, which the longer we wait, the less chance I have due to a reproductive disorder).

So... Thanks for coming along on the ride, but it has to be evacuated.

We essentially went through the same thing last year for a wedding this year, having to cancel and postpone to having a 2016 wedding. I know the situations aren't identical, but I I know how disappointing and heart wrenching it is to have to pull the plug on something you want so much. Here's to things getting stable and prosperous for you two over the next year, so that 2017 will be a reality! *hugs*
