HELP in search of Bitty Baby with dark hair blue eyes

HI! I found out as I went to order today, that American Girl has discontinued Bitty Baby DFN02 - the one with dark hair, light skin and blue eyes.

Does anyone know where I would be able to find one? I though they were on Zulily a bit ago but I didn't think to buy it then. Who knew!! If anyone was smarter than me and has an extra they r willing to part with please also let me know.

I've tried the outlet in Michigan already... no luck!
 
Call each American Girl store & ask for a personal shopper. If there are any left on the shelves, they will ship it to you directly from the store. We had to do this when a much-wanted outfit was suddenly discontinued & finally found one in Boston.
 
I was told they were pulled from stores so calling a shopper will not be helpful. Keep an eye out on zulily or Jill's Steals and Deals on the Today Show.
 


I totally understand that you want to have the doll match the baby.. But have you ever seen one that has been loved? We have a brunette and a blonde. The dark hair scratches very easily and looks terrible. The blonde has held up much better.
 
I have one packed away that was bought as a gift and never used. I will check the colors and get back to you
 


Since Mattel bought American Girl Doll from the Pleasant Company, I noticed a lot of changes. They have retired several dolls, but also bought back one, Samantha. Good luck, I hope you find one.

It's been 17 years since Mattel bought American Girl! I suspect the historicals will go in cycles, to keep them fresh and in demand- it's easy to overlook dolls that have been available for 20-30 years... (especially as the modern dolls are now the focus of the brand). With Bitty Baby being less popular I wouldn't count on anything coming back. It likely got retired because it wasn't purchased as much.

Sadly for me, the biggest change I've noticed over time, other than brand focus moving to modern dress up dolls instead of reading and history is quality. :(
 
I am in a similar boat with the carseat! I am hoping they release a new one before Christmas- but they just released a bunch of new Bitty Baby stuff and no seat- just that $100 bundle. Which I would buy the Moses Basket part of it, I just won't want the stuff!

FWIW, I read an article years ago that expressed one way for kids to accept differences in others as they grow was to have them play with dolls that don't always look just like them. In part because of this and in part because that was what they had left on Zulily, I bought my daughter the dark haired, brown eyed baby (she is blonde and blue). The "hair" is getting pretty scratched up and looks like she's got some bald spots and it's been 9 months of not too heavy play.

I don't know if they still do this, but AG used to (within the past 5-10 years) sell replacement parts. You could call and just order one part of a set. You might try calling them and see if that is available as a "replacement".

It looks like the car seat is also on Jill's Steals and Deals this morning. $18, if I'm seeing the same thing you're looking for. Also other Bitty Baby stuff.
 
My sister was having the same issue. I wound up having to get it on Ebay for $100. I never knew how much those things cost.

They were probably yanked from the shelves. They're on Jill's Deals today.

Thank you so much!! After lots of waiting, I think I was able to get the one she was wants! I haven't yet received a confirmation email but i printed out the order confirmation page.

The confirmation email may not show up until tomorrow. They are always totally overwhelmed during the deal days and the emails tend to get very delayed. Don't panic, but definitely keep your order number printout.
 
That's the one we have. Let me know if you want it. Not sure if my daughter wants to give it up yet but she doesn't play with it much anymore.
