Can anyone provide me with information/advice on this resort? I have read tripadvisor and yelp and it seems to be hit or miss. Are some rooms renovated and others not? We plan on staying in a Residence Inn for a few nights but I am thinking about splurging and paying extra to stay one night on the beach. Is the Children's Pool within walking distance? Seeing La Jolla beaches is on our sight seeing list and I have read that parking can be difficult so I thought staying one night on the beach would be fu

I believe you are referring to the "La Jolla BEACH and Tennis Club." The "La Jolla Tennis Club" just has tennis courts. No, it is not within walking distance to the Children's pool unless you are really avid walkers. About 30 minutes each way. You are walking along the beach, on seacliffs, then on busy roads (and by AMAZING houses). The Club is on a great beach however - depending on when you come, walk to the left until you're at the end of the beach and swim straight out (in front of the Marine Room). There is leopard shark breeding area there. It's a San Diego right of passage to "swim with the sharks."

If you want to splurge and be within walking distance (and have killer ocean views) try La Valencia (high end) or La Jolla Cove Suites (low end but also expensive - this is La Jolla after all). There is also La Jolla Inn - but I know nothing about this place.

We used to stay at La Jolla Cove suites - love that place!! Easy street crossing to two beach areas and a great park to hang out and watch the ocean.

Is it possible to walk along the beach starting at Windansea Beach near the Holiday Inn Express all the way to La Jolla Cove and Children's Pool or would we have to come up and walk along residential streets along the way?

No. Unless tides were super low, but you could walk much of it, heading over one block when you cannot walk further, then walking parallel to the ocean and rejoining the beach at the next beach access. At some points you will be walking on sand, other parts rocks, and some points sea cliffs. The "residential streets" are home to some of the nicest homes you'll ever see, so even then you'll have a "view". La Jolla as a whole is very walkable and you'd be right in the middle of it.
