Ogdensburg Airport Update

We were crossing over to ON from NYS at Ogdensburg this Sunday and notice the giant sign on the bridge approach announcing flights to Florida in 2016. The airport expansion had been announced a good year ago, but this seemed to make it very real.

Did a little surfing when I got home and found out that Allegiant is now definitely signed up, and flights are expected to start in November 2016. They are extending the runway by 1200 feet and realigning SR89 around the extension. The sign did indicate Florida; really hoping for Orlando, even if Allegiant flies into Sanford.

This could really provide a great option for Ottawa and other Eastern Ontario travellers as the airport is only an hour away, and that is one of the sleepiest border crossings around (a summer Sunday afternoon, around 4:00, only one other car at the border crossing when we got there). Note that parking at the airport is free as well (at least for now).

Definitely enjoy the free airport parking and lower crowds while you can. I drive over the Thousand Islands Bridge to Syracuse Airport and traffic is becoming heavier. The park and fly hotels near the airport and the airport itself definitely know how to squeeze dollars out of parking. While still comparatively less $ for me than flying out of Toronto (even with the exchange rate) its becoming less of a bargain every season because of associated expenses in Syracuse.

That's great news!! I really hope that they can make this work because I would definetly use it! Syracuse it getting too busy now that everybody knows the secret of flying out of there.

Wow...that would be awesome. I used to go to Ogdensburg all the time when we lived in Ottawa, and it would be so handy to fly out of there.
