Marathon Weekend 2016

@LSUlakes My monthly was 44.6 miles. Not super amazing, but I'm training for local 5k's right now so my runs are fairly short.

Also for those asking above; the BOG breakfast "trial period" ended at some point a month or more ago and that's when they released a whole bunch of breakfasts into the system. So that was the reason it went from 90 days to the regular 180 day window all of a sudden. But Yay to @dancingtodisney for snagging the 8:05!

Thanks for clarifying! It seems really weird that for everyday there was an 8.05am slot which I would have thought would be the first to go as it allows you early access to the park. I'm guessing they opened some more slots or something. Either way YAH for me haha

Had a nightmare last night I forgot to upload proof of time for Donald.. Luckily had a month till its due but alas it's now tco :)

Thanks Keels, If I do good on my race this Sunday I will PM you immediately. And if I don't...we will just pretend like I did :)

Semi-on-thread-topic: Liberty Tree Tavern just opened reservations starting 1/1/16. So if anyone was wanting an added Magic Kingdom meal option for race weekend, you can go get an ADR right now. Maybe some people will start flip flopping their ressies too if they drop something to get LTT. Just a head's up :)

Oooooooh - that must mean that Skipper's Cantina will be open then, since they will share the kitchen!!!!

Add me to the growing list of injuries. Had to cancel my planned POT race because of IT band issues in my left knee and some shin splints in my right leg from overcompensation. I had been hoping to get a sub-2:00 half marathon, but will settle for my previous 2:13. Should still move me up a couple corrals and I have plenty of experience running from corral L if it doesn't.

Welcome to the M.A.S.H. Unit. Sorry to hear about your injury. I just finished 30 minutes of rolling my foot on a frozen bottle of water. It's awesome, isn't it.

Need some help. My wife is running the half for the first time this year, and wants her picture taken with certain characters. She will gave her iPhone, but can she also have Offical photographers take her picture at the castle and character stops and have them added to her magic band or will they just appear when all the event photos are released?

I know the list is out there, but does anyone have the link or list of character stops for the WDW Half?

From all the races I've run at WDW Marathon weekend, I've never stopped for photos with characters.

@derekleigh on-course photos aren't linked to MagicBands, they are done through MarathonFoto. If the pictures are important she should definitely take her phone.

Character line-up isn't guaranteed to be the same year to year, but the locations seem to stay the same. I'm typing on my phone and am not good enough at it to paste the list, but if you check out my Dopey report (link in signature) I stopped for almost all of the characters during the half.

I consider myself very lucky to have gone as injury free as I have during the four years since I have taken up running. I started out seventy pounds heavier than I am now, so there was certainly opportunity for injury along the way. I am fortunate these injuries do not seem to be long-term. Shin splints have been my nagging injury through all four years, probably a result of the extra weight, so I know the exercises I need to be more diligent with to help that issue. The IT band is new, but I am still able to elliptical and cross-train with little to no pain so I am hoping a couple weeks of not pounding the pavement will take care of that issue. Did 7 miles last Saturday with no pain until a few hours after running when it began to get weak and tight. That's already an improvement over the previous Saturday when I only made it about 5 before deciding to shut it down for a week because it was happening earlier and more frequently during my runs. Will probably give it another go this Saturday and hope to see a little more improvement. I think I could run better than my 2:13 on the 12th, but not by a large enough margin to make it feel like it is worth the risk. Discretion being the better part of valor and all. On a positive note, I missed this same race last year with severe blood loss from an ulcer. So cancelling for aches and pains is a step up from life threatening illness.

I hate seeing all of the more serious injuries that seem to be happening; especially the plantar fasciitis, which my dad experienced and is something I hope to never encounter. Good luck to yourself and everyone dealing with these issues.

Well folks, August is over. Time to post your monthly mileage.

I am working up towards my POT in two weeks so it has been a busy running month, my achilles is hanging in there; sore on the real long runs but just fine on the short stuff. I have had little to no issues after the run; fingers crossed!

My total 186.5 miles. All of you out there closing in on POT races, good luck!

Nothing like joining a group and promptly returning back to lurker status. School started back up recently so I've been in the thick of things helping to get the school year off to a great start for my staff and students. Anyway, I have been reading along, minus the posting, and really enjoying everyone's updates.

As for mileage, I'm at 122 for the month. I'm not really training for anything other than the marathon, so it's really been just about getting the weekly mileage up. My DH, 11 yo DS and I are all running a 10K in a couple weeks and then I've got a 5K at the end of Oct, but that's about it for racing. DH is using the 10K for his POT, so I'll probably pace my DS. Thankfully I have a barely sub-2 hr HM from this spring that I plan to use as my POT. The 5K is really more of a famiy affair so DH and I will probably both end up pacing our 9 yo DD and 7 yo DS. It's a local, neighborhood run put on by the school, so older DS will run with some older friends and be good to go.

I've been toying with the idea of running in costume, trying to decide what to do. The 5K would be a perfect chance for a trial run since it's on Halloween morning. I just need to get the rear in gear and make a decision and start gathering pieces.

Other than that, I don't have much else to share other than sympathy and empathy for the walking wounded. No fun whatsoever so I wish you all swift recoveries.

Well folks, August is over. Time to post your monthly mileage.
My mileage all summer was reduced while I deal with plantar fasciitis. August came in at 122 miles. That is 15 miles per week less than I was running before the injury.

Leaving for vacation (which includes 10 days in WDW) on Friday, so my mileage will stay low through most of September, but hoping to be healed enough to start really ramping up when I get back on 9/21.

Geez my monthly mileage is wimpy in comparison to this group - just 76 miles in August. I did bike 180mi and swim 30,000 meters - I admit that I get a little burnt out just running and the cross training really keeps me going. Still wondering how I'm going to do this Dopey thing!

Well folks, August is over. Time to post your monthly mileage.

I came in a little over 42 miles. Probably one of the lower totals here, but I'm still a beginner and very casual about it, so I'm totally cool with being there.
My goal for September is 50 miles. I'm finally upping myself to running 3 times every week (I've been alternating 2x weeks with 3x weeks for a few months), so it should be doable.

Last month I came in at 235 miles. I also crossed 1000 miles for the year.

On my Saturday run I was passed numerous times by groups of middle school kids and then on Sunday I was passed by a guy pushing a jogging stroller.

You gotta love getting passed by a guy pushing his 30+ lb kid by you. It happens to all of us. I've been passed during a 5k at a 7:30 pace, but my all time favorite is my much faster buddy was running a 5k a little below a 6 minute pace and got passed by a guy pushing a stroller. 200+ for the month :worship:.

I once was passed during a 5K by a guy pushing toddler triplets! I was in awe!

Ran a 5 miler today and it was the best run that I have had in months. Ran fast and pain free. I felt my heel after the run, but it was/is only mildly tender - maybe a 2 on a 1-10 pain scale. I'll take it!

Now, when I say I was fast I am taking into consideration the fact that I haven't done any speed work since my injury 3 months ago. The local HS cross country team was training on the trail with me and most smoked me. Still a long ways to go in my recovery, but I am feeling better every day!

Don't sweat it - a 20 mile/week base is fine at this point and the cross training would have helped. But if you want to finish the Dopey, you need to ease up on the other stuff and focus more on running mileage over the next 4 months.

You are absolutely doing the right thing. Just keep working and increase your mileage slowly.
