Dilemma...Need help with Resort Decision

Looking for some advice. We took our first WDW trip in December 2014. We stayed at the Contemporary Theme Park View. It was magical and expensive! We did not get any kind of deal or discount. We would love to stay there again but with the current rack rate, we could not afford it (I also decided to be a stay at home mom the past year). We are planning another trip for December 2016 and would love to stay on a monorail resort again, if possible.

Trying to decide what room to put a deposit on:
*Contemporary TPV- not sure if it is likely to get a discount in the future. If we can't get a discount, we will have to change to something more affordable.
My agency claims that a discount will be offering a discount (not sure what) next month for the Contemporary Garden Wing and a Standard room at the Polynesian.

I am afraid if we reserve the CR Theme Park room we won't be able to get a discount and will be stuck with no other availability on the monorail in our price range. If we choose the discount offers with a Garden Wing at CR or Standard at the Poly will we be disappointed? Is it better to keep the CR Theme Park room in the hopes of a discount?
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks

I think all the monorail resorts are unique. What ages are traveling with you? I love the way GF is decorated at the holidays and it was an awesome time for us. Poly Has the beach where you can watch wishes and experience a different style too. Why not give something new a try!!

Rent DVC points. GF villas and Poly villas are more expensive because they are newer, but you could rent Bay Lake Tower points for less than any Disney promo will get you. David's is a broker and sponsor on this board - check out their web site. They facilitate the whole process for you. Most important things to know are that you should book 7-11 months in advance for your best shot at availability, you'll have to pay in full when you book, you cannot change your dates or cancel for a refund, and you will not get daily housekeeping. If none of those things are concerning, you can get a great price. You can still add a dining plan, DME, etc.

Since you have already stayed at Contemporary, why not try Polynesian Village? Honestly contemporary garden wing does not appeal to me at all

I would book the agency discount and choose the Poly standard room. We just got back from Poly and stayed in a standard room (Fiji, ground floor, luau cove side). It was so lovely! There was a beach outside our room that hardly anyone ever visited. I could walk right out from our room and watch the electric water pageant and the fireworks every night. It was so beautiful and peaceful and much less expensive than a CR TPV room!

We've stayed in the Garden Wing of CR and I really didn't like it. I think after the TPV room, you would be disappointed staying there.

I agree...rent points. Definitely worth it! Last year we rented points for a LV studio at VGR for 7 nights and paid less than what I am paying for 5 nights at the Poly this year!

I think wherever you stay first always "stays" with you. We try to vary where we stay, but every other trip we've gone back to BC/YC, because that's where we stayed first. But, every other place we've visited has had it's pros and cons. Honestly, I find the rack rates at the monorail resorts absurd, so I would go for another good choice that has the discount.

Thanks for the great feedback. I have thought about looking into the DVC rentals, but the concern over not being able to change or cancel is concerning to me. Last year (for our first trip) I had to reschedule our trip on very short notice because my father suddenly passed away. Having the insurance was a life saver for us.
My kids are 9 and 4. We did love being able to walk to MK. That would be my biggest draw to CR. If we could see Wishes from the Poly though, that would probably be worth considering. Being able to walk to the TTC would be a nice bonus as well.

Of the three monorail resorts the Grand Floridian definitely has the best Christmas decorations and holiday feel. I also love the Poly in general, and by next December all of the construction will finally be complete, so that would be amazing! I agree with the other people who recommended branching out from the CR since you've already stayed there.

We are going this December and I originally booked a CR TPV room at rack rate hoping a discount would come. I ended up getting a PIN Code but no TPV rooms were available, so we changed over to a BL View at the discount and just kept checking back...eventually I was able to get the TPV at a discount. Point being - it is possible and we didn't necessarily need to have the TPV room booked in the first place! Book somewhere you would be happy with if it doesn't work out and then just keep checking back!

We've begun renting points from a broker...they now offer trip insurance for a set fee per point....

We never bother with the insurance, been lucky so far in 54 trips....we've stayed at WLV and BLT a few times and are headed back to BLT this September...a studio for the price of POFQ.....why not....but the drawback is getting the week you want....everyone is renting points....but it's the only way to go....

My favorite to date is the Theme park view at the contemporary, but my kids loved the Poly. there is a boat to mk, and the monorail, and you can walk to the TTC which makes Epcot easy to get to. I would try the Poly - watching Wishes from the beach is an amazing experience :)

I could never justify the expense of the monorail resorts. I would go with a Moderate personally
