Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

...well, anyway...

So how's training going everyone? :teeth:

Currently I am avoiding heading out into hot, humid nastiness by sitting and reading the discards;) Gotta get going... It is only 3 miles today, the earlier I do it the better it will be but, here I sit.

Happy September 1st everyone! :flower1: We only need to change our calendars 5 more times until the month of Princess! :cool1: By the way does anyone even HAVE physical calendars anymore?? It seems everything is kept track in our phones now! We still have one family calendar hung up in the kitchen, and I just wrote the Jeff Galloway training program into it-- starts October 20! :thumbsup2

I did a quick run this morning. Just 30 minutes. It's getting harder to fit in these morning runs with decreasing daylight. But running at the end of the day isn't an option when it's still so bleeping hot! So happy fall is coming!

My pace was OK - 11:30. On Sunday I ran 6 miles and my pace was 10:52 - but that was on the nice, flat rail trail. Best part of the rail trail is that it is slightly uphill on the way out and downhill on the way back.

Right now I am still doing two 30 minute runs during the week and a long run on the weekend. I'm thinking about adding a day of running during the week or extending the two runs to 40-45 minutes.

I do! I have one at my desk of my nieces, we also have a family one. So excited that there are less than six months left to wait! :D

I have two - one on the mantle over the fireplace and one on the refrigerator. I should probably change them both - thanks for the reminder!

I have two physical calendars: one on my desk at work, and one on our fridge we got from our property management company that has a magnet on it.

speaking of balloon ladies - this discussion makes me miss the Pace Charming guys. They were much more fun to look at, lol.

I took last week and this week off (I ran once last Wednesday) since we were out of town and I'm training a new gal at work. Training for my 10K begins on Monday, with race day being on Halloween. I love this race. There's free beer and tomato basil soup in a bread bowl at the finish line. :)

I feel like the person who opened the can of worms. But I'm going to say that it's in my nature to need/want to know info like that. Just like I need to know which shoes I can run a long distance in, and which bras, etc; I plan on knowing where the sweeping points are as an FYI type thing. I can't speak for everyone- but I know I'm putting in the miles. I have the Wine and Dine coming up in 2 scant months and am on schedule to run my first long run of 13 miles somewhere in the next 3-5 weeks. But I also am a person for whom the unknown will drive more terror into my heart and brain that the known. So for me, while I don't plan to obsess on the sweeping persay- I have to be informed nonetheless. Like I said, that's just me though.

I don't think anyone is saying there is something wrong with asking questions. I think what everyone was saying is that people have to be careful not to get too stressed out about it. It's easy to do, the closer it gets to race day!

Can we go back to talking about bras for a moment. I am struggling with a rather painful, embarrassing issue right now. Over the last year I have lost about 30 lbs, and unfortunately some of that has been in the chest area. So, the bras that I was wearing have gotten too big. I am experiencing chaffing on the underside of my breasts. It's pretty uncomfortable. I've tried going to a smaller size bra which is helping, but not completely. I have also been using deodorant there. I'm thinking maybe I need some bodyglide, or something similar. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I use body glide around the armhole area of tech shirts when I go running, and it helps wonders. I also find that spiorts bras with a thicker support band under the ribcage rarely chafe as much as ones with a thinner band.

I had the same thing - I still do but it's not as bad...

I was gonna say to get re-sized, but you did...what kind of bras are you using? What's the sizing like? Getting a bra that had the band/cup sizing as opposed to just the S/M/L options really helped me. They sized me at 34D and I still had chafing until I tried the "sister size" 32DD. Having the smaller band helped because it wasn't rubbing on me so much. And BodyGlide helps too. :)

I hate bra shopping. So frustrating.

Maybe you're still not in the right size? Did someone actual size you, or did you just go down a size?

Thanks for the replies. I have not been resized and I have been wearing the Nike high support bras. I was in large and now I am wearing medium. I guess that resizing should be the next step. I also hate bra shopping. haaha!

I find that the bra that used to fit may not be comfortable when your chest size changes. It may hit you somewhere it didn't before even if you're wearing a smaller size because your weight loss may show more in one area than another. I would try as others have said to try and get fitted. If you don't have a place to get fitted or if you are uncomfortable with that then perhaps you could try different brands on your own and see what works. Bra shopping sucks but chafing sucks more.

I can't help with the bra sizing or shopping, but I can point out that using KT tape under the band can help greatly in preventing chafing. The tape is wide enough to keep the band from rubbing when it moves, it's sweat-resistant so it stays in place for a decent amount of time, and it comes in a variety of colors if you need that sort of thing. :)

I would definitely get sized. You may find you need a sports bra with bra-sizing and not S/M/L. The S/M/L sizing never works for me.

I had this problem as my breasts (even before I gained and then lost a ton of weight) are not naturally perky, thus even as a B cup, you could put a pencil under them and it'd stay. If I'm wearing a regular bra and get too active or sweaty or what not, my skin will get irritated under my breasts. I think that the skin has toughened up a bit because I don't really get issues anymore with chafing. And my skin does not blister easily either, so that helps. But, when I was dealing with this the other thing I did (other than be sized to make sure my bras were the right size and other than use bodyglide) was to use powder under them and between them. Again, this was long before I took up running so I had to do this for regular bras esp in the summer. Also, I will second the KT tape advice. It really helped for me.
