Tourist Tax? Whats the best way of doing this?

Heya guys!

We're buying an Annual Passport (likely Dream) when we stop by at DLP on our way to family at Christmas time.

We're planning to go to DLP at the beginning of January for my birthday, staying on site for five days or so. I know if we book a package deal through disney, this will include tickets, which by this point we wouldn't need, as we'd now be in possession of APs!

So... my question. I understand that you get a room discount with AP's, but it's not always great and can work out more than the deals advertised online. I really don't want to wait until December when we have our AP's to book our hotel room, because the prices are great right now (and... we'd have about two weeks between buying AP's and when we'd like to return).

Someone mentioned the Tourist Tax to me as an option, but I know nothing about it. Something about adding people onto your room at check in? So, would we just book the room for one person, and then add the two others at check in (as both would already have park admission through APs)?

Help!

H.x

Yes just book the room for one person (or one plus any free children) and then add the others at check in. If you need more than one bed you are usually best to email then a few days before to say you will be adding more people at checkin otherwise you may end up with a room with just one bed.

The room tax is a few Euros per person per night and is paid when you check in. Those added will get breakfast , EMH etc just the same.

You don't even need to say they have annual passes as you don't need to have a pass for the parks to be able to stay at the hotels - although Im not sure why you would stay there if not intending going in to the parks

Thank you so much! I've been reading about AP's for months, and this is the first I've read of a tourist tax option. It cuts the cost down of our holiday massively to do it this way :)

I don't quite understand this way of getting into the room.

If you get a 2-person room, and lets say you pay 50 € for 1 night (for the 2 of you, so basically 25 € per person).
How does it work if you show up with a 3rd person then?
It just stays 50 €?

Yes but the extra person will have to pay tourist tax which is usually about 10Euros a night (or maybe even less)

The extra person won't get a ticket as part of the room package so it only works if they have an Annual Pass or don't want to go into the park

You're simply paying 50 € for a room (as opposed to a 2 person room) :)

Ok, so while if you would book a 3/4 person room, it would be let's say 100 € then, so it's still the original 50 €?

Sorry, I've never quite understood this and why people would do it, so not understanding it completely, hehe.

Yes the price of the room doesn't change - what you are paying for usually is park tickets for each person as well so if you don't need park tickets as you have AP for example. Rather than pay for tickets you don't need and waste the cheapest option is to book for one person normally (they will get park ticket whether needed or not) and then add the additional person(s) onto the room and pay tourist tax (few euros ) only.
You can of course phone up if you have an AP to ask for room only but this usually works out much more expensive as special offers don't apply to room only and the AP discount is not always very much

Example - So if you book a room for 4 people with tickets as normal it costs £200 - so £50 each.
If you already have APs you can book the room for 1 person - £50 and get one ticket and the room.
By adding an extra 3 people on the room will still be £50 and you will pay tourist tax at approx 4 Euros per adult per night so much much cheaper

obviously this works better if you already have APs as the first trip you have to factor in the cost of APs as well

Besides the option to add peole to your room upon arrival, you could also book room only already. Just call reservations and explain your getting a Dream AP in December, and they'll give you the discounted rates for January. You can book it right away. Just make sure you do get the AP in December. ;)

Good luck!

WE BOOKED TODAY! Eeeeeeek!

Thank you guys :) I'm quite chuffed with how much money it saved us - less than £400 for five days at NPB! We'll add the other two people on when we get there. I'm so excited about spending my birthday in DLP!

Fantastic - it might be worth sending an email a week before you go just to say you are adding people on at check in who won't need tickets just to make sure they don't just give you a room with one bed

Have a great time :yay::flower1::dogdance:

This is what I'm going to do too. DLH is around £1000 for 4 nights for one person for the dates I want. I can add husband and children when we get there.

Guys! One last question... we've booked a Compass Club Lake View Room (which I think is a concierge level room?) - I know I know, not the best value for money, but it's my favourite resort and I'm being spoilt!

Will this still be okay to add two AP holders onto at check in? What happens about breakfast? Can I pay an additional amount for this?

Several years ago we added our (adult) son onto our booking in an Admiral Floor room and paid only the tourist tax. That year they were trialling various things for these rooms including hot breakfast in a separate room and free cakes and drinks during the afternoon and he got everything included in the tourist tax price

the local tax you pay at check-in at all the onsite hotels gives the extra guests breakfast at your hotel, exactly the same standard as the guests named on the package.
