Does anyone else think the busses suck?

Almost always use busses with no problem. It's been a while since we've been there. Have they modernized to hybrids yet or still burning diesel?

I would go as far as saying the buses "suck" but I don't exactly enjoyed it when they are filled to standing room only capacity and packed in like sardines. That was reason enough for us to a rental car for our trips to WDW. To each their own though.

There's plenty of times that I get frustrated with the buses when I'm there, BUT I am glad they are there! I would much rather get antsy waiting for a bus or stand on one then have to skip having drinks, rent a car, figure out where I'm going, etc. etc.

But buses are designed for standing passengers. Have you ever noticed that as buses are modernized there are fewer seats? You can get more standing passengers on a bus than sitting ones. Of course I'm talking about transit buses, not motor coaches or school buses.

Of course, if you don't like standing, then a rental car is the logical alternative.

We usually rent a car. My husband does all the driving. I'm glad there's an alternative for people that don't want to drive. If everyone drove, the traffic and parking would be a big problem. If I were to go solo, I would probably take the buses and not have to worry about that part of my trip. Some people just don't want to drive while there and I get it. Plus, we also add another week to our trip and go to the beach, shopping & other attractions. There's pros and cons to everything. It's just about what's more important to you.

Just came back from a trip several weeks ago and the busses were pretty good. I didn't like when they stopped at multiple resorts, but waited no more than 10 minutes each time. It met my expectations.

Well...yes and no. If you are staying at AK and want to go to MK, you COULD drive there if you had your personal vehicle or a rental. But then, you would have to park at the MASSIVE MK parking lot, take a tram, then get on the ferry or monorail. On the other hand, you could board the bus at your resort and be dropped off pretty close to the gate and not have to remember where you parked your car and all that. Sure, it does take some time to get there, but just walking up to your resort line at the bus stop after a long, hot day is totally worth it...even if you have to wait for the second bus. Chatting with others waiting is a good thing in my world. I love comparing notes about places to eat or what someone's favorite thing about a certain resort might be.

Disney is pretty clear about the "20 minute wait" thing. And I have been pretty p/o'd sometimes because of people that pull up at the last minute to the handicapped spots that result in me....that has been waiting 20 minutes already for a bus and can't get on that bus because of this last minute person and their entourage...not being able to get on the bus. It is probably cost prohibitive, but there should be some kind of "wait your turn" type of thing at busy bus stops.

As someone who uses public transit for work (cheaper then driving and paying for parking in Center City Philadelphia not to mention increased insurance) the Disney bus system isn't a problem for DH & I. Standing on a Disney bus is still better than standing (or sitting) on PATCO going to work.

I hate the buses. I hate standing 40 mins. in line after MK closes, waiting for the bus back to POP. I hate how long it takes to get ANYWHERE. I hate being crammed in like a sardine, standing on the ride back to POP, with sweaty armpits in my face (or if I get a seat, sweaty bodies). I hate having to leave 90-120 mins for an ADR just to make sure we can get there in time (or have our reservation canceled and pay the no-show fee).

However, I also hate paying $250 to Alamo, as car rates/discounts aren't great right now, so on our next trip to WDW (11/2015, just started planning last night) we will be taking the buses. Am I glad they are an alternative? Sure, but it doesn't make me like them any better!

I hate them too. Unless they have improved in the last two years. I lived in a city with very efficient public transport so I'm prob just being a spoiled brat. I think I hate them mostly at night when they don't seem to have enough to handle the crowds. My husband hates that so much that he pays for a taxi on those nights! But again, I'm sure they have improved since the last time we were there. At least I hope so.

I have no issue with them and use them every trip unless I am going resort to resort, then I take a taxi. Only once have I had an issue with them in numerous uses. And even that wasn't THAT big of a problem. Plus, I don't want to drive on vacation. I commute about 30 minutes each way for my jobs. Being able to leave the driving to someone else is one of the reasons I LOVE a Disney vacation.

That said, I do have my own "rules" when it comes to them.

1) Always get to the bus stop with MORE then enough time. I always give myself a minimum of one hour to be somewhere. Then again, at Disney, I am in GO GO GO mode so I often leave even earlier lol.

2) I don't expect a seat. If I get one, great. If I don't, that's fine too. If I NEED a seat, then I will wait for the next bus or take a cab.

3) I don't leave the parks when everyone else leaves the parks. Either I leave earlier or I wait until the place clears out.

I like the buses. We've never had a problem. The longest I think I ever waited for one was leaving MK after an EMH night. Even then, it was just fifteen minutes, maybe twenty. I'd much rather ride the buses than have to worry about driving and parking. And then there's the margarita or two I might partake of at Epcot. So yeah, I'll let someone else do the driving.

Incidentally, I did notice that the original poster hasn't returned. Just sayin'.

I would not mind them as much if they did not pack them the way they do. Just want to say Dave the CM in DTD tonight was a total ******* after they pack the bus he gets in and yells that bus is not moving until they get 4 more people on. This after waiting over 35 minutes for a bus and it was packed. He started yelling when no one moved that he wanted everyone to make two lines in the middle where every stands. Two women had been holding small babies but Dave did not care. He had the driver open the back door and got on yelling for people to move back. Need to get 4 more people on. Well after this going on for 10 minutes people started yelling back at him and saying the bus was full. There was not room for more people it was packed. Finally the driver said something to Dave and we finally was able to go. To Dave your a jerk.

Where I am, the public transit system is good. But not enough for me. Just invested in a hybrid. If traffic is slow or stuck, I'm no longer burning gas. Love it.

Check out these vids, but turn on the subtitles.

I don't think the buses at WDW suck. I think that like anything else they have their issues and it's not a perfect system but I also think that disney is always trying to improve the system and I have seen some things get better. I actually enjoy parking my car upon arrival to WDW and never needing to use it. I enjoy riding the buses, unless it is packed like sardines. Riding the Disney buses are a part of the total experience!
