Twister Closing Soon (Nov 2nd -- Last day to Ride, this Sunday)

I guarantee there will be people upset that this is closing.

I have a friend that's an insurance adjuster that travels to a lot of the tornado disaster sites and is constantly quoting Bill Paxton from the effects show. (
) I'm sure they will miss it.

There was never a glass wall in the showroom its wide open (for the wind and wetness) Just has a few emergency stop tripwires in case anyone is crazy enough to jump the rail.

Bill Paxton is beyond wooden both in the movie and attraction. He didn't seem to be into it to say the last.

I have seen endless complaints about Twister for the longest time now so I'm not surprised that they're replacing it. The replacement doesn't sound all that great but I hope to be pleasantly surprised.

Personally I'm more bummed out about Lucy A Tribute. Not a great attraction and it drew very few but I'm a fan of the old show.

last year i did the penny press for Lucy tribute and got the veg a mite one.
thrilled!
will miss lucy.
always a great place to go to and cool off and look at what's in there.

Twister has been the same since opening. Even the opening was delayed out of respect due to deadly tornados that hit the Orlando area right before grand opening.

-new fantasyland
-avatar land
-frozen ever after
-expanding/changing soarin
-expanding toy story mania
-taking down the hat
-updating the great movie ride
-basically gutting much of hollywood studios to put in a bunch of new things

am i missing where disney is not trying to make things fresh and exciting?

sure disney takes more time to do it but thats because they have such attention to detail in their attractions.
in my opinion universal is just like any other amusement park. they are just cramming as many thrill rides into as small of a space as they can and then a couple years down the road they change it all again because people are bored of it.

disney on the other hand is trying to make attractions that will stick around for a long time.

Haha, another Disney apologist getting defensive!
-New Fantasyland - took 5 years and DULL as ditchwater

Coming Soon:
A new film for Soarin, extra capacity for Toy Story, they've taken the hat down at HS - woooo, so exciting :rotfl2:

As far as Avatar and Star Wars, I'm sure my grand kids will love them when they're finally ready. Disney's great on talk, but slooow to deliver cus it's cheaper.

Back on topic, shame to see Twister go although it was showing it's age

I wish they would go ahead and announce the closing date because I want to take my mother in law to see this attraction in November, but we won't go if Twister is not there. It would be a waste for her since she is obsessed with that movie. Any chance this thing stays open until at least after the new year? Its a shame she will probably miss out on it.

I never cared for the Twister show; it was too loud! I did like Backdraft at US Hollywood, but that went away some time ago.

Am I correct in reading that no closing date has been announced? We will be there Sept. 23/24 and are hoping to see this before it goes away.

You are good, Twister is expected to close early November after HHN ends. What is funny is from everything I hear is that despite Disaster closing first, the Twister replacement is expected to open first (Spring 2017, F&F is set for Fall 2017). The entire KidZone area of the park (minus ET and SpongeBob) is expected to close by summer 2016 as well so it could be an interesting summer capacity wise at USF. Good thing all the hype will be at IOA with Kong and Hulk 2.0 opening up.

They are closing he Kid Zone next summer? Like Feivel playland, Curios George, Barney, etc?

No firm time lines on closing yet. But when it closes it will be all of the areas that you have mentioned.

Someone mentioned a little earlier in this thread to ask for the behind the scenes tour. We just got back and asked for the behind the scenes tour and got it, it was really interesting to see how it is done and then we were allowed to get in on the next group from the control room. It was pretty neat.

No official announcement yet, and won't be for a while. But yes, the current plan within UC is that KidZone will close some time next year. Probably right after Kong and Hulk 2.0 opens over at IOA. Like I said, everything within KidZone is gone except ET and SpongeBob. The ET entrance is going to be rerouted so that the attraction is now part of the Hollywood area of the park, and Nintendo Land will open in place of KidZone in Summer 2018 if all goes according to plan. It's going to be interesting next summer to see how Universal Studios Florida as a park can handle the massive crowds with so many attractions and land as construction zones. I'd suspect that even though ET is staying open, it could close during construction for a refurb as well so we'll see. I think Universal planned for this which is why in 2016 IOA is getting all the shiny new stuff, to draw crowds over there and provide some relief for USF as it goes through a facelift. Once everything is done by 2018, the whole resort is going to have amazing capacity and provide so many options. Exciting times to be a theme park fanatic.

Thanks for the quick replies damo and Milla! I knew Uni was rumored to be working on a Nintendo area, but I hadn't heard about it being where KidZone is currently. It makes sense, but I hope they just refurb the WoodyWoodpecker coaster and Feivel area.
Call my family weird, but we love that area, and will miss it (Lucy too!) My 10 year old is a huge Lucy fan, and I haven't had the heart to break it to him yet. Every year, we all compete on the Lucy quiz!

Woody Woodpecker and Fievel are incredibly outdated children properties unfortunately. Nintendo will be more relevant and exciting, it's an easy call for Universal and they have been looking for the right IP to replace KidZone for years now.

Also, one more tidbit about Twister before I go. They are currently running a sale in the store (40% off most items) to clear out merchandise. The store is going to sell HHN25 merchandise until the attraction's closure shortly after the event. So if anyone was interested in picking anything up in the Twister store, you better be quick!

They closed the twister gift shop "Aftermath" today . They are converting it to a temporary Horror nights store. The new store should be open this Wednesday and run through the event both during the day and at night. After the horror nights run, the store is expected to close and not reopen as twister anyway. They may be able to use part of it while attraction reconstruction is going on, but that's just a guess. If I were to venture a guess, probably an NBC store or maybe a store for Christmas/MArdi Gras things to coincide with the other events until the new attraction is ready.

So, there is still no official attraction closure announcement, but all signs are pointing to when horror nights wraps up, or soon after.

There is a strong new rumor that the replacement for Twister will be announced tonight on the Jimmy Fallon and that Twister's last day will be on November 2nd.
