leaving in 18 days....and was thinking about the photos they take(1st cruise) are we the only ones who care less, and plan NOT to buy them? Is there anyway not to have them take a photo of you? We have our own person for photos....thanks

You can request to skip the embarkation photo. Any other time you see them you will need to likely mention that you wish not to have photos taken (character photos and dining rooms on Pirate/formal nights hey come to your table). The one place you cannot opt out is the Aquaduck. There is an on-ride photo. But they only print out them in super tiny and you have to tell the shutters people around what time you rode if you want to see it.

We don't mind if they take a few photos. Sometimes they turn out nice but we never show up with the intention to buy them. In fact even if they do take a photo, you don't ever have to go look at it. Have a pleasant cruise!

They do not force you to buy them. You can even skip the family photo they take when you board the ship.. I asked if we could bypass it and we passed a huge amount of ppl and got right onboard! :-)

are we the only ones who care less
No, you are not the only ones. No matter what cruise line we are on, we generally follow the same pattern. When boarding, we skip the "fake background boarding photo area and "just keep swimming." (Had to put in a Disney reference here). Boarding day is often hot, humid and sticky, and by the time we are done handling luggage and waiting in lines, we are in no shape for a good photo. On formal nights when the photographers roam from table to table, we bunch together for a single photo of the family with no intention of buying it. But the photographers are trying to do their job and we don't want to harass or embarrass them, or cause a scene. So we politely pose for 10 seconds. It doesn't kill us, even though we know that there is a 1% chance that we will buy the photo. If there are pirates or other characters outside of the dining room for a photo shoot, we will pose for one of these as well. (And since we have had wine and drinks with dinner, it becomes easier to joke around with these guys). We never pose for photos at port stops as we get off the ship. We are usually moving with a purpose. So, in all, we will pose for 2 or 3 photos per cruise with no intention of buying them. On the off chance that a photo comes out looking good, we will consider it. But generally, (and this is especially true in the tropics), we all have "cruise ship hair" that is humidified and wind-blown, and we look far to scary for photos.

That's about where my mindset is also!! This trip is for me to relax, beach hair and all!

From what I understand, and someone can correct me if I'm wrong, If you don't take the embarkation photo, no photos will be available for you to view/purchase during the cruise because they use photo/face recognition. They swipe your KTTW card and take your photo at embarkation. Thats the only time you present your KTTW card to photographers. Even though we don't purchase the photos, we enjoy stopping by Shutters daily to view our photos.

BYW, the line for embarkation photo does seem long, But we have found it moves fairly quickly. Waiting an extra 5-8 minutes to have photo taken is worth it to have the photos available to view once on board.
Just my 2 cents :)

You don't have to pose for any. We walk past the embarkation photo line when boarding. If the photographers come around through dinner, we give them a polite "No thank you" and they move on.

We haven't had the embarkation photo take for the last several cruises. Any other photos we had taken (in the dining room, or at a photo location onboard) have shown up in our folder. We had to present our KTTW card at the photo locations, but the ones in the dining room we didn't.

My husband and I always skip the embarkation photo. We also have passed up the dining photos. I don't feel it would embarrass the photographer if someone doesn't want their photo taken. We just tell them "no thank you". They didn't seem to mind. I actually find it kind of annoying on some cruise lines. What's the point really since we will never buy them.

If you know you're not interested in the photos, you're doing them a favor by saying a polite "no thank you" - saving them several wasted minutes between taking the unnecessary photos, uploading them, printing them, putting them in the folio, and then throwing them away at the end of the cruise.
