Why did I receive two sets of Magic Bands?

We are staying at AK-Kidani for a week starting Sept. 27. I received our MB's about 3 weeks ago. These MB's included AP attachments but no DVC. Then out of the blue we received new MB's yesterday with different colors from the one's received 3 weeks ago. There were no attachments to these. Any idea why we received new ones? Also, how can I go about getting DVC attachments for them? Thanks

I read somewhere here on the DIS that they are no longer issuing DVC sliders for Magic Bands. That has not yet been confirmed, but it seems like you would be the evidence thereof...

Yes they discontinued the DVC sliders. We were in WDW August 1-8 and a split stay. We didn't get DVC sliders with either set of bands. I would guess they will start selling one soon!

Oh, yes-and I just got 3 MBs! One because I've got an AP, then the other two because I have a split stay.

So I guess I'll just pick the one to use based on color. Not bothered by the lack of DVC slider and won't even use the AP slider. They always feel uncomfortable to me to wear. Thanks for all the replies.

we went in Aug ( never again), and are going for the Halloween party end of Sept beginning of Oct.
still not a fan of the bands . we had a box sent, opened it up, wrong names, called Member services, they got the new order headed out and at the end of all this he asked for the number inside the band, and low and behold, we had the right bands in the wrong box! LOL, so, long story short, the new ones came in time. and they worked for charging, and for opening our room door but we couldn't always get in the building after dark. Happily someone would let us in both times this happened.
Then, this business of fastpassing 90 days in advance is ridiculous IMHO. it was crazy, so many people all messed up, the lines were just as bad as they used to be with out this nonsense. ugh. This next visit will be the first time we have our tickets on our bands, I am printing out the email with the ticket confirm on and taking it with me.
Everywhere we go we here stories about these bands, and not many are very good. any one else?

If you want to find horror stories on the bands you will. You will also find people that like the bands. While like most things there is good and bad. I personally like being able to spend the day at the pool and walk into the park and being able to go on 3 rides back to back with minimal wait.

I don't want to hijack the thread there are plenty of other threads on this subject. Also the FP's are 60 days not 90 days in advance. The MB's can work for you.

Agreed - love that we don't have to play the get up early -race to parks -run through the park- grab fast pass - wait in line game anymore.

Love MBs and have not had any problems with them.

The Magic Band is just a wearable KTTW with an added battery and "longer range" transmitter (currently used to capture a few ride video clips.)

The wearable KTTW part is nice. I no longer have a wallet full of tickets and paper FP, I no longer have to distribute them at "turnstyles" I don't have to dig into a pocket to open my hotel room, it's kinda nice.

Disney could have implemented Magic Bands without MDE and FP+, but they did.

Most of the problems are MDE. You scan in your band, and a Dosney system doesn't recognize that you are you on your account. It's very frustrating when you get your room number, but MDE doesn't let you into your room. Or MDE doesn't let you into a park to use your AP (that worked yesterday)

Because your band is associated with a guest and can keep your band for multiple trips....all sorts of gremlins that appear with that data now snowball into bigger issues than ever before.

Agree on all points.

It can be a bit of a hassle to make the FP reservations 2 months in advance. But in the vast majority of situations, changes can be made just a day or two out with few negative repercussions. If you have Epcot booked tomorrow and decide you'd rather go to Magic Kingdom, hop on the MDE website or app and change your fast passes.

Main things that need to be watched are Mine Train, Toy Story Mania, Soarin and some of the meet-and-greets. Those you'll have trouble securing FPs on short notice.

We typically schedule our FastPasses to start around noon. If we arrive early, we'll use standby for some short lines. If we're in the parks later in the evening, FastPass kiosks can be used to get more FPs, typically with very little wait.

I followed some great advice on these boards and have had zero problems since. Go on your MDE account and de-activate all of the bands that you will not be using on the particular trip. Keep only one active. They should all be the same -- just because you got one set with the AP sliders, that doesn't mean you have to use those for the AP; just because you got one with a room reservation, doesn't mean that you have to use those bands for that room reservation. We had only one set active, and it worked great for everything, even when we had a split stay. When we did room-ready, those bands let us into the room without a stop at the front desk. I highly recommend it!

Yes, I followed advice, but we were moved out of our room because the shower was broken, (causing black specs everywhere) and then our MDE problems began.

FWIW, if those bands weren't all grey, at some point you or someone else in the family with access to the MDE customized those bands. Same with the AP bands. If they aren't grey, someone chose those colors and verified the address in MDE.

Actually, I think if they were mailed at all, then someone customized them. I finally reached a point that I'd had enough even of something free! On our last trip, where we added one cash night at a Poly studio, I didn't customize the extra set of bands -- didn't put names on, didn't choose colors. They weren't mailed, and ten days out, I got an email saying I could pick up grey ones at check-in. When we checked in at the Poly, I asked if we could just use our one active set for the room, and there was no problem.

How do I personalize the annual pass magic bands? I have already personalized our resort stay magic bands. Will they both be the same?

No, you should see them listed separately under your list of bands & cards. You personalize them the same way as the others, but they don't have to be the same.
