Official 2015 Disneyland Half Marathon Thread.

Assuming they keep things the same as they have been for other races this year...balloon ladies. Program guide was equally confusing in January and people doing Goofy/Dopey were able to get the challenge medals even if they were over 16:00/mile. I saw the same thing happen with someone I know who did GSC. :sad2:
Yeah, my 5k in January for Dopey took... um... over an hour since I ran with a friend who only did the 5k and wanted to make All The Stops and I spent the rest of the weekend freaking out that I wouldn't get the medal on Sunday because of it.

Thanks for the updates, my plan for the 10k is to take it easy, hit some photo stops, stop and smell the roses.... I'll stay ahead of the balloon ladies but my personal time will suffer. Perhaps I should focus on the prize keep my head down and just run.

Humm, Interesting. Does that mean don't get swept by the balloon ladies, or your personal on course time must be below the 16min/mile pace.

Normally, this means the balloon ladies. I've yet to hear of rD not giving someone a challenge medal for having a pace in a timed race of more than 16 min/mile. Kind of like how people who get swept often receive a finisher medal anyway, I don't see them bothering to verify everyone's pace after the finish of the last race of the challenge.

This what I've always heard as well.

Yeah, the GSC person I'm talking about was the most blatant abuse of the corralling system I have ever seen - started the half in the upper half of the corrals and by the end I think less than 20 people finished after they did. And this person got a GSC medal with a 10K time of almost 2.5 hours and a half marathon time of almost 4.5 hours. :sad2:

They don't verify the pace. They verify that you have a finishing time for each of the races that applies toward the challenge, and if your time isn't there, they pull up photos of you on the course to verify.

I wouldn't take any chances - it seems like with this race that things are changing. Why would they be such sticklers for taking pictures of you and saying that they'd verify you...that implies more than just finishing but possibly finishing within pace limits to get the Double Dare...the regular medals you will still get but the Double Dare might be different.

Agreed. My easy pace for the 10k is around 14min/mile so I'll get my photo-ops at the after hours party, and not have to worry about time during the actual race. Personally if I can't keep under the allotted time, or God forbid get swept I don't want a medal.

Why would they be such sticklers for taking pictures of you and saying that they'd verify you..
I was assuming there was some history of people tag-teaming the races so they could get the extra medal.

Like some of you on here, I'm nursing an ITB injury. I'm not sure how i'm going to finish DDD as pain sets in around mile 3. I'm going to strategize with a running friend/coach tomorrow and map out a walk run plan. I just want to finish even if i have to crawl across the finish line.

Figure I will just wear the new race shirts and anything else i pick up at the expo.

3 more days, 6am flight on Thursday !!!

@SueInBoston......sorry to hear that you are not at 100% but between your fellow runners and some Disney Magic, you should make it to the finish. I'm not at 100% either but lowered expectations and look forward to having more time for pictures and to take it all in instead of worrying about time.

Less than a week! Safe travels and stay healthy every one.

I have to survive 4 more days of work.

We spent a couple of hours planning out our trip, which days we will go to Disney and which days will be Universal etc. I hope i planned it out ok, I keep second guessing myself though.

The same language about finishing in the required time is in the Dopey instructions, and they never bothered to check times and verify you after every race. They only checked the photo match after the last one and not the time. They say this to keep hundreds or thousands of people from taking advantage of things. It's the same reason they say that you must be in your corral by 5am in order to run, on the bus by 4am, etc. If everyone pushed the system to the limit, they'd have some serious chaos on their hands. Adding language like this gives them an out if someone shows up at 415, misses a bus, and is late to the start. I wouldn't stress over the pacing wording. As long as you finish in front of the balloon ladies and your picture matches the one they take at the expo, you'll be fine.

Best wishes SueInBoston. An ITB injury is rough but you can do it. Dont give up.

I'm signed up for the Dumbo so will be int he parks in the afternoons on Sat & Sun then fly home Monday. I can't wait. My goal is to just finish and have fun within the time limit. I haven't done a 10k and Half back to back like this before. Best of luck to all and see y'all out on the course.

You will have a blast and, if you are like me, find the back to back challenge runs somewhat addicting.

Total agree with what you and @SgtTibbs and @Ariel484 have stated. But I will tell you from my Dopey experience that I was very uneasy that they didn't follow the protocol of providing wristbands or checking our times each day. After I finished the marathon the gentleman verifying me in the Dopey tent was so serious about it....felt like I was going through customs at the airport. Nothing to declare except I just did Dopey!!!

Hopefully none of us will have to sweat it, but I plan to stay under the time limits and be worry free.

Yep, I can verify this. I'm expecting them not to check anything for Dumbo until we're in the finish area after the half.

Same here! I wanted that verification!

Question, how do the extra hours work at DL? Who gets them?

If you are staying at a DLR hotel you get the Extra Magic Hour for every day of your stay.
If you purchase a 3-day or longer park ticket you get one Extra Magic Hour.

With Extra Magic hour you can enter the park one hour before posted opening time.

During Race week the schedule is as follows:
Wednesday: DCA - 9:00am
Thursday: Disneyland 9:00am
Friday: DCA 8:00am
Saturday: Disneyland 8:00am
Sunday: DCA 8:00am
Monday: DCA 7:00am

Super! Thanks! We are staying off property but have a 3-day pass, so we will get one day. Not sure that we will be out and about that early after the races, but we may. Maybe DCA after the 5K on Friday.

Possibly a dumb question - does anyone know if this applies even if you bought the discounted tickets from a TA?

I'm hoping it applies to the TA tickets.

I think I also read that the Magic Morning for 3-Day+ ticket holders (those not staying in property) is only available at Disneyland. Which is Thursday and Saturday when I'm there.

Well damn. Good catch. Sadly you are correct.
Extra Magic Hours (EMH) are good for Disney hotel guests and work at Disneyland and California Adventure.
Magic Mornings (MM) - Are for people with 3-day or longer park tickets and only work at Disneyland. You can get a detailed run down of this here.

So to amend my earlier post, during race week we have the following:

If are a Hotel guest with "Extra Magic Hours" you get:
Wednesday: California Adventure
Thursday: Disneyland
Friday: California Adventure
Saturday: Disneyland
Sunday California Adventure
Monday: California Adventure

If you have a 3-day or longer park ticket you get:
Wednesday: An extra hour to sleep in
Thursday: Disneyland
Friday: Extra sleep
Saturday: Disneyland
Sunday: Extra sleep
Monday: Extra sleep.
