ART to/from the HoJo?

I booked the HoJo last January with plans of walking to and from the parks during out 5 day trip this October. Unfortunately I have an intermittent mobility issue and may need to take the bus. (I severely fractured my ankle a little over a year ago and it still swells and stiffens.) I am so annoyed at the thought of having to take the bus when staying so close!!

I have a few ART related questions.

1. Approximately how long does it take to get to the parks and back on the bus?
2. Is there an advantage to buying the passes ahead of time versus waiting to see if they are needed?
3. Are the busses less crowded in the middle of the day verses at park opening and closing?

Right now I'm planning on trying to just take the bus to and from our mid day breaks at the hotel. I may have to use them more though. So knowing the best time to skip the bus would be great so that I could plan around it.

I asked about using ART earlier this year when we stayed at the Hojo. We ended up not taking it, walking turned out fine for us, but here's the thread just in case there's any useful info in there for you: http://disboards.com/threads/has-anyone-used-art-to-from-hojo.3395478/

It sounds like your ankle may give you problems throughout the day. How would you feel about using a scooter? If you rented one to use going to/from the parks then you could just park it somewhere in each land and jump on when you need to walk further distances. Last trip we also utilized the train A LOT and it really saved our feet.

I hope you have a great trip!

Recommend using Uber, Taxi, or Resort shuttle in these instances.

The last few times we stayed at HoJo's the ART stop was closed. Not sure if it's permanent or because of the Courtyard construction across the street. I'd call HoJo's and confirm the stop is open. We were there this past May and July and it was closed both times. (someone had covered the bus stop sign with a bag or something).

It's the last stop before the park, so maybe 5 min to the park and 15 back to the hotel.

Yes. In fact, you can pretty much forget about catching at the Hojo in the morning to get to DL. We actually were never able to ride it to the park because it won't stop if it's full. And it's usually full by the time it hits the Hojo. Supposedly another bus is supposed to come right behind it when that happens, but no one ever showed. We never had a problem catching it from the park back to the hotel, though, and that's when we needed it most anyway with a worn out cranky kid.

I second the idea of a scooter or wheelchair. The walk to and from HOJO is pretty tame compared to how much walking and standing you're going to do all day. If you think that walk will cause issues, please play it safe and go for a scooter or chair!

The bus won't really do much to reduce your overall walking. You'll probably feel much better using a chair for most of the day. If it still swells and hurts then 5 days of constant pavement-pounding could potentially re-injure you and if it were me I wouldn't want to risk that.

Renting an ECV and parking it when you don't need it is a good suggestion. Depending on which building our room is in, the distance from the gate to the stop and the stop to your room can be 1/4 to 1/3 of the total distance from park to hotel. If you feel like your ankle can't handle the walk back, walking that extra 1/4 mile might also be too much.

We stay at Hojo and usually take the ART without problems. Sometimes it is hard to get to the park in the morning, but we enjoy riding the ART and resting our feet most of the time. I think the worst is waiting for the ART after the fireworks or World of Color, your tired, it's late, and lots of people are waiting! That's the point where we decide to just walk! I think at this point my family would walk more, last time my husband was recovering from a heart attack the pervious month!

The ART for HOJO is a bit unfortunate. It shares it's line with the Peacock Suites (first stop) and one other hotel near the Peacock. Then it drives along a "back" road and comes out near HOJO. We used this ART line when we stayed at the Peacock and we did see people get on at the HOJO one time. The problem is that you'll likely spend more time standing and waiting for the bus than it would take you to walk to the bus. Once it picks you up you'll go straight to the park (like mentioned about 5 minutes), but on your way back to the hotel you'll have to ride the bus to both of the other stops first and it will take a minimum of 15 minutes.

You can wait to see if the pass is needed, but keep in mind that it is not cost effective to buy a one use pass. If you decide to use the bus you'll want to pay for a pass that is good for the length of your trip. There is a kiosk near the bus pickup area at DL and also one in the hotel. I would call and ask HOJO if they still have a stop though, since someone mentioned it was closed.
