Bed bugs!!

I also use jumbo Ziploc type bags for my clothing. It saved me from not having anything to wear while my clothing and luggage was being cleaned by the hotel. I used to unpack as much as I could and get plenty of extra hangers so that everything would have a chance to have the wrinkles fall out. Not any more - from now on, I will keep all clothing in those bags for my entire stay. I know that I'm over the top with packing in Ziplocs, but it keeps everything clean, dry and organized...and pest free. Yep, I'm a weirdo! lol

Disnut1149...Hope that the "bites" feel better soon! HOPE that you enjoy the rest of your vacation.:wizard:::yes::
  1. Thanks for the reminder about any hotels/resorts and the possibility of bed bugs!:scared1:

I've been going to Disney resorts off and on now for 38 years--gosh I'm old:guilty:--and I've never had a problem. Yikes!! I hope I never do!

It's definately a bigger problem than I had realized. We just left Disney World on Wednesday afternoon (Aug 26). The night before, the last night of a 9 night stay I found a bedbug crawling on the ceiling above the vanity. We really had not felt like we had any bites but a few did show up the next day. We stayed at Pop century (and have for the last 5 August trips without issue) and they handled the situation very well. The night duty manager and pest control came to our room to positively id the bug. We were given $100 each to buy new clothes and carry on's since we were leaving the next day, we were comp'ed a nights stay and were moved rooms immediately. We were given taxi vouchers to go to Walmart at 2 am to purchase clothes and were given a 3:30 pm checkout as our ME bus came at 4pm. They sent all of our items (clothing, fabric suitcases, basically anything fabric) out to be cleaned/steamed and will have to ship them back to us (all the way to Canada) as they were not back in time before we checked out. Was it a huge hassle? Yes, but they really did handle the situation well. I'm just glad I noticed the bug when I did or we very well could've brought them home with us. I'm sure when the package arrives it'll go straight into the wash again, just to be on the safe side.
Ugh....that's terrible. I'm at Pop right now and feel very itchy. I did a check when I arrived eight days ago, but I'm going to check again.

Please tell me you weren't in the 60's!

Okay, I want jumbo bags, but where do you buy them? I don't dry bras in the dryer because they shrink, so they'd be a total loss in high heat required. But if there was an actual infestation that you noticed days later like a pp, do you all think the press lock baggie would satisfy Disney's exterminator?

Someone asked about repellent, I know that you can purchase a spray for your luggage. I have done this once. You have to spray it on outside and let the bags air dry. It was a hassle. I may consider doing it again, however. Also don't put your bags on the carpet when you get to the room. Use a bag table if they provide one.

OP here and it's not a negative post or scam. I'm 65 years old and never tried to get Dis to pay for anything in all my 33 trips! I woke up at POFQ at around 5:30 am with a lot of itching. I had about 10 bites. My DD and I pulled back the covers and we caught the tiny little bugger in a cup and put him in a little plastic baggy that he happily crawled around in. Then we took him to the front desk. The manager was so nice and could see all the bites on me. He was wonderful . Gave us money to go to Wal-Mart to get my DGD, DD and myself some new clothes. They had to escort us back up to our room to get stuff we needed for the day, but anything that was fabric had to be collected by them and taken to be disinfected, luggage included. We did get a new room that management checked out.I was so upset that we had to take time out and get a taxi to go shopping at Wal-Mart on our MK day. He did reimburse us for our one night. So I usually do check the beds when we check in, but with our plane getting rerouted because of storms, we got in late and I never checked the bed . Never make that mistake again! And thank you to the posters that had a little compassion to think that I would not make something like this up and try to scam Disney. I'm an honest person and would never think of doing that. I was just wondering if anyone had a problem and how it was handled. Michael, the manager was great. Oh, he said it happens about once a month.

Several years ago, one of my students brought them into the classroom. He had them in the cuffs of his pants and inside his shirt in his armpit and in the collar. They were in his backpack. It was a nightmare. It took many months to get the city to get his apartment manager to fumigate his apartment; social services got deeply involved, etc. My room was fumigated three times.

During the process of getting it all taken care of...which took quite a while...I kept my coat, purse, and teacher bag in a giant Ziploc bag. I had to keep my school laundry in a Ziploc bag separated from my family.

After that school year from hell, we went on vacation. Because of all of the reading I did about bed bugs, we put all of our clothes in sealed Ziploc bags before putting them in our suitcases. When we arrived in our hotel room, I checked the mattresses and the rest of the room for the telltale signs. I know a bed bug from 10 feet away...I saw and caught so many during that school year. When we saw that the room was clear, we unpacked. The Ziploc bags served as our dirty laundry bags for the remainder of the trip. Since then, that is our normal protocol for travelling anywhere.

Yikes. What a nightmare...

I haven't heard of a bedbug repellant for luggage, but it's enough of an issue for travelers on airplanes that I've seen stations in airports overseas where you could pay to have your luggage shrink-wrapped before checking it in with the airlines. I can't remember ever seeing anything like this in the US, though.

I think actually the OP reply is pretty close to what I read from an another issue with bed bugs, Proof was given, money was provide to get new clothes everything was washed and cleaned for free, a new room is provided and that night is refunded back. think it might be their policy? Unconfirmed at them moment, but will be asking a family member who just happens to work the front desk in a disney resort.

You can get Jumbo Ziplock bags at Target. I'm in MN and they were $6.99 for a box of 3

Happened to us. At Hilton in Niagara Falls. Stayed there many times and it's a lovely hotel. Checked on my baby girl sleeping in the bed during the night and saw a bug. Put a cup over it and saw another one. Grabbed my baby and called front desk. They said it probably a beetle and sent up a staff member. He confirmed it was a bed bug. We moved rooms and I said well tonight is free right? It was 3 am. Guy said doubt it. I didn't sleep anixious about a confrontation the next day and more bugs. Next morning manger called- said sorry, took care of that night on the bill and said they will send away all clothing, clean it and ship to us- without me asking for anything. And they did. I now check for bugs at every hotel and we have been back to that Hilton without issue.

OP, I'm so sorry to hear this happened on your trip, and to everyone else that has dealt with this issue. I must admit, we have never even thought about looking for the wretched little creatures upon arrival, but after reading this thread, I'm sure to take precautions the next time. Just reading this gives me the heebie jeebies. And my husband would be much worse! Lol! Now I have one more thing to add to my "to do" list when we are prepping for our next trip to the world!

I returned late last night from a fairly quick visit to disney. I started at Pop Century and then added on an extra day ato Saratoga Springs Resort. I had an early DME to the airport, so things were rushed yesterday morning making sure I was packed and at the front of the resort on time. It wasn't until I was at the airport that I noticed little bites (or what I assume are bites) on my hand, foot, and - - now that I am home and can check - legs. I am terrified that they are bed bug bites as the are in a straight line. I have left my hard shell suitcase in my car, stripped in the kitchen and placed all the clothes I was wearing in plastic bags.

Should I contact the resort (s) and ask them to check the two rooms I stayed in to verify that they are bedbugs? I don't expect anything from disney, merely to prove or disprove that bedbugs were present so that I can take additional actions.

Oh no, I hate reading this thread, although thank god I have!

I would never of thought to check the bed for bugs and I never have checked in the past.

So Thankful for this thread opening my eyes to this problem :scared:
