The Never Ending Dining Review! Feb/April 2015 Update: Cowish

Glad BoG worked out so well for you despite the service. And good to know you can get the scallop and shrimp dish without mushrooms. It's always sounded good to me, but I won't go within 10 feet of a mushroom

I feel you! You can definitely get the dish without them.

The Leaky Cauldron

On this day we left Disney property (gasp!) to head over to Universal to see the new Harry Potter Diagon Alley section! I'm a huge Harry Potter fan- actually, for a number of years I was even more into HP than Disney, so it was really cool to see. The area blew me away, and of course we had to have lunch at the Leaky Cauldron!

They had a whole bunch of specialty beverages, and I decided to try the fizzy OJ:

This was pretty pleasant, and not really as sweet as I thought it would be. It wasn't orange juice like you would typically think of, but not as thick with a more subtle flavor. The best part was the sugar/cinnamon rim - that added a really nice flavor! DH got a butterbeer, which was amazing as always. Definitely one of my favorite drinks ever.

For my meal I had the banger pub sandwich (sausage) with wedge fries:

Okay, I'll start by saying I'm not sure why I ordered this as I'm not a huge fan of sausage. I think I just really wanted fries and I'd had fish and chips a couple of days before so I decided to try this. It wasn't my favorite but I think it would probably be good if you do really like sausage. It did have a nice mustard on top, but I didn't care for the pickled whatever on top so I ended up scooping all of that off. It was very filling too! And the fries were delicious, just what I'd been craving. I'd give it a 6 out of 10 but a lot of that is due to personal preference.

DH went with the mini pie combo, which included a cottage pie, a fisherman's pie, and a side salad:

He enjoyed this, giving it an 8 out of 10. He liked the fact that he could try a variety of things in one dish, and it was also very filling. He liked the fisherman's pie a lot, and thought the cottage pie was fine if nothing special.

Overall we'd give the Leaky Cauldron an 8.5 out of 10. I didn't love my meal but that was my fault, I'm sure when we go back I'll get something that's more up my alley. The atmosphere is awesome, especially for Harry Potter fans, and it's cool that they offer things that are not your typical quick service. It's authentic British pub style food, which is cool. The only other downside is the price - the meals are a bit pricey for quick service, and because they don't offer regular soft drinks all of the sodas, etc. that they offer are specialty and therefore more expensive. We spent almost $40 on lunch for a two of us which I feel is rather high, even at a theme park. But due to good food and Harry Potter atmosphere I know we'll be back!

Butterbeer - $4.99
Fizzy OJ: $4.79
Mini Pie combo: $12.99
Pub Sandwich: $11.99

Tax: $2.26

Total: $37.02

Looks good. Ive never been to universal but all I hear is that potter is like nothing else. I'm not a huge potter fan but I am a theme park fan so some day I'll see it.

Nice to see different food reviewed besides the fish and chips there. I also love HP and the areas at US and IOA are awesome! Butter beer is so good yummy!

It really is incredible. Maybe more so for me because I am a big Harry Potter fan, but walking into Diagon Alley felt so totally immersive and amazing that honestly it was a better initial experience than anything I've seen at Disney. Though that very well may change with Star Wars.

Yeah it's good to try something different! I looove butterbeer.

Cowfish

After our day in Universal, we headed to Citywalk for dinner. We decided to try Cowfish, which is a unique burger and sushi place - they even have burgushi, which combines the two! It was early, probably around 5pm, so it was still pretty empty and we were seated right away. In the waiting area they had these screens where you could design your own fish, and then later in the seating area there were these screen "fish tanks" that would have all the fish designed swimming around. WE didn't try it out but it's a cool idea!

We both like to try something different, so we decided to order off of the burgushi menu. DH went with the "burger" that used sushi style meat (ahi tuna type). It was the What’s Shakin’ Tuna Bacon Sandwich
Seared rare blackened yellowfin tuna, applewood bacon, iceberg, jalapeños, tomato salsa, slaw and spicy mayo, served between grilled spring roll wrapper “buns” filled with kani and sushi rice:

He said that most of the components tasted great and his only complaint was the bun. He didn't care for the bun and felt it made the burger too unwieldy to eat. He gave the dish an 8 out of 10. The french fries were typical fries, nothing to write home about.

I went with a sushi roll made with meat - The Taste Explosion
Seasoned natural Angus ground beef, applewood bacon, jalapeños, spicy mayo inside, coated with tempura flakes. Topped with Roma tomato and pepper jack cheese, then baked. Drizzled with cashew cilantro pesto:

For the most part this was absolutely delicious - I liked all of the components together and it had great flavor. It was spicy but not too much. The only downside for me was the way that the meat was seasoned. It tasted to me more like taco meat than burger meat and I'm not a huge fan of that kind of seasoning. It was still really good and I would give it an 8.5 out of 10.

And then... then it was time for dessert. We decided to share a milkshake since we were rather full from the entrees. We went with the s'mores one:

I have to say that this is probably the best milkshake I've ever had. It was seriously soooo good, and I love milkshakes. I was almost sad I decided to share it because I wanted to eat all of it myself! I would honestly have to give it a 10 out of 10.

Overall Cowfish was a really fun, different, and tasty place. I would give it a solid 9 out of 10, and honestly would love to go back and try more of what they have to offer. Even aside from the burgushi menu, they have a lot of delicious sounding burgers and sushi rolls to try. And obviously more 'smore milkshakes.

Here's the prices if you're curious:

Soda: $3.19
Taste Explosion Roll: $15
Tuna Bacon Sandwich: $14
S'mores milkshake: $6.00

Total including tax before tip: $40.68

Not a bad price at all - definitely one of the most reasonable meals we had on vacation!

I've heard good things about cowfish. I'm not huge on seafood but it still looks good .

I wish we were going back to Universal for HP on this trip but we just can't squeeze it into the budget. I'm always shocked when I see people's prices for their food from the restaurants in the HP lands.

I've never heard of cowfish but it sounds and looks awesome. What a clever concept to merge burgers and sushi and even more impressive to be able to make it work. Gonna have to get to the dark side to check it out ; )

Love, love, love Cowfish! I visited the one in Charlotte NC last year when I was visiting my cousin there. The menu options are so unique without being too crazy. I think I had an ahi tuna roll of some kind. Your sushi looks delish!

Holy Toledo I am drooling over the look of that shake!!!!

It was soooo good!

Wow Cowfish looks super good!

It was, definitely very tasty!

They have a really large burger menu with all sorts of interesting burgers (no seafood) if you prefer that!

Yeah, the prices definitely threw me at first - you'd think Disney would be more expensive but not the case!

Right? It seems like something that could either be really good or really bad, and luckily they ended up good!

Following along here - OMG the cowfish menu looks awesome. I'll have to try!

It is, I really want to go back!

Makes me look forward to November even more!

Yay, I hope you have an amazing time!

Yum! I wish they would build a Cowfish up here by me ;)

So sorry I haven't gotten to update in awhile! As some of you know we were in Disneyland, and then when I got back I started intense rehearsal for the play I'm in (we opened last weekend!). Hopefully I'll have a little more time soon - trying to update this on Friday! I've also been dedicating a lot of time to my Disney blog so if you're curious about more of my Disney adventures you can go there as well! (www.disneyinyourday.com).

Thanks to those of you who are hanging in there with me! Yak and Yeti review coming soon!
