Value Resort at Deluxe Prices oh how the exchange rate sucks.

I have booked my offsite resort for March but not flights. They are crazy right now. I am also booked at Orange Lake for Xmas Dec 23 rd to.Jan 2nd but I think we will.be cancelling. We have til sept 23rd to decide. Our summer trip to Virginia killed us with the exchange.
Do you think March flights will drop?

I think you're right. I locked in for March 10 through 15 this week at $579. Think that is barely tolerable. If in left on the Saturday and came back near the end of March break it would have been nine hundred. Not doable.

Checking flights today. Prices are up yyz to mco. The flight I bought last week is now over $600. It now costs over a thousand to fly out Saturday and return the following Sunday. Glad I booked last week.

I'm glad we bought our DVC points when our dollar was above par (unfortunately we still have to pay those dues...hoping for some recovery to the dollar by January!)

We booked our flights Mar. 9-16 out of Buffalo on delta through Expedia.ca, got 4 round trip tickets for $1200 canadian. Out of YYZ right now is over $2000.

Sigh....us too (our timeshare maintenance fees are due January 1st as well). I'm not expecting we'll see much difference in what we are looking at right now, though. In fact, I fear our dollar might be even lower by then :headache: .

We still have to pay off 2000.00 US for our Disney Cruise in March, due this December and for the hotel in Miami for two nights. Already paid for airfare. Can pay the cruise off early if we choose. So we are not doing too bad, its the shopping money that will take the hit. Might just stay by the pool!

I agree with everyone on here. It's hard to maintain our yearly pilgrimage with the rates the way they are it just sucks. But I can't............stop..........going. It makes me happy to go to WDW so it's worth it.

We are looking to go from Halifax for March break and the flight prices are crazy. We are looking at flying into Jacksonville instead of Orlando - we can get flights for @ $600 each, instead of the mid to high $700. It means renting a car, but we are probably going to do that anyway as we are thinking about staying offsite because of the extra costs due to the exchange. We would reconsider that if they had a good deal to offset the exchange cost for Canadians though

Our first trip in Jan 2004, when the dollar was as bad or worse as it is now, we got a great Canadian only Visa deal. We basically got our passes for free by paying rack rate at Coronado Springs.

We're struggling as well. Adding 35% more to pretty much everything is causing financial stress.

We have saved some money with flights and park passes through airmiles (paid only $800 CDN in taxes for the four flights from Edmonton). We paid our cruise off before the dollar started tanking, and our hotel the day they announced the interest rate changes and the effect that would have on the dollar. We have US money put away, paid for at a much better exchange rate. That's the good news.

The bad is all cruise excursions, car rental, souvenirs, tips and gratuities, Universal park passes, food etc. we debated on cancelling, but a lot has been paid for already, so we are going ahead. We will not go again for a while though unless we get great deals from Disney, or the dollar recovers to at lfeast 88-90 cents. Hoping for some magical Pixie Dust:tink:

I totally feel the pain. I booked flights a couple weeks ago for 550 and was happy with that. First time not flying out of the states. We are going for 2 weeks in March and rented points. This will probably be our last trip for a while.

I finally have my flights booked for March Break. I booked the southbound leg when SW opened up the dates on Aug 11th. I got the northbound leg a little over a week ago when I accidentally put in the date incorrectly. Instead of the day I wanted to return I put it in as 1 day earlier. The last flight of the night was only $119 so I grabbed that pretty quickly. My southbound flight had dropped in price a while before that which I re-booked so I also had a $60 credit. Over all I'm happy with paying only $220USD/person RT and I'm convincing myself that I am coming home a little early to compensate for the exchange rate.

Once school gets started my DD will see if she thinks she can miss an extra day. We are currently set to fly south on the 7:45pm flight but if she can take that extra day we will change to the 8am flight and gain that day in the sun. Right now changing to the 8am flight would only cost me $4.

Now I just need WDW to offer a good discount on rooms. We are going to give up renting a car this time to save money. No rental car means no shopping but also means we must stay onsite to have DME and WDW buses.

Totally agree.

We have decided that we won't be going back to WDW until 2018 and we are hoping that our dollar has rebounded by then

We started planning our January 2016 Silver Anniversary trip to WDW in July. The exchange is killing us! We booked ASM (instead of POR) and the QS Dining. DH is obsessed with watching the exchange rate as it's really a HUGE difference CAN vs. USD. We used Air Miles, and have already booked our flights. Last night he said we should maybe drop the DDP. This morning he said maybe we should just cancel. I'm not feeling very "magical" today... *sigh* Hoping that Disney decides to cut us Canadians a break, so our celebration can take place!

We've cancelled our November trip and won't plan anything until the exchange rate improves or Disney comes out with a really good promotion.

First time in 7 years that we won't be taking at least one trip to Disney during the year!

Since you booked your flight with AM I think it's nonrefundable. You would be losing the fees you paid plus your AM. I think you should go and there are plenty of ways to save money while there.

If you have enough AM left you can get your park tickets through them....even one ticket is a savings.

Yes, cancel the QSDP. Bring items from home that you can have breakfast in your room(cereal, bagels etc) and then stick to CS meals. Some portions are very large so it's possible to share meals. Also, don't order combo meals if you only want part of it....you can order anything a la carte. Stick to drinking the free ice water when possible as you can spend a lot of money on pop(pop at CS is around $3 each).

As soon as WDW releases the winter room only deals book your room through Orbitz. You can stack an Orbitz discount code on top of the WDW deal to get an additional 15% off (or $150 which ever is greater). You can also sign up for Ebates and go through there to Orbtiz for some additional savings. I did this last year and saved over $300 on my room....will be doing it again for my trip this March.

You can cut out shopping. Take tons of pictures and let those be your souvies. Make a beautiful photo album after you get home.

For March Break? Wow!

Edit: That seemed incredible for March Break. It looks like you are traveling in the fall and your dates are flexible - that makes far more sense.

The exchange rate is only going to get worst and worst. Its expected to be about 1.60 in the summer. Might as well book and pay off your vacations ASAP or else youll be stuck at home doing nothing. You only live once and its only money. Cant take it with you when your 6ft in the ground.

I booked today for December. $272 for our $200 package deposit.:crazy2:
I should book offsite but once I throw in the rental car and parking costs it was only saving me about $400 USD. So I decided we'll stay onsite this time and see where we can save. We have a few table service booked but it's going to be way more counter service meals than we've ever done before on this trip.
