We don't do the DDP but I always keep track of our food bill just to see if our habits change, so I decided to post since this is a question that gets ask fairly often.

Cast of happy vacationers.

Me: the mom lady. Old
Honorable son #1. 23
Honorable son #2. 20

Price to beat 180.00 (60x3 DDP price)

We love to eat. We do have a dvc discount that usually gets us 10% off meals.

Checked into the Broadwalk Villas late Wednesday. Yesterday was our first full day

Thursday 8/27
Breakfast. 21.35. 1 almond croissant, 2 chocolate croissant, 1 tea 1 orange juice. Boardwalk Bakery. Cereal in room for 1 son
Late Lunch. Via Napoli
1 calamari appetizers
1 Aracini appetizers
1 individual piccante pizza
1 large pepperoni pizza
1 coke
2 Italian sodas

110.00 including tip (10% discount)

Total 131.35

Oh, this is going to be good.

I went without it the last couple of years and I usually came out even, but we decided to get it last February and I just want to say I gained weight, and I never gained weight. I think the plan made me eat more, like desserts. Or just more food in general.

You're comparing DDP w/o tip ($180) to dining OOP w/ tip. I don't think you should include the tip in your total, or, if you do, list it separately so that we see an apples to apples comparison. Thanks for taking the time to do this!

It looks like the first day you ate pastries for breakfast and one table service late lunch. I am not able to eat like that. Even if I had some protein and fruit in the room for breakfast, one meal for the whole day is not enough. Especially with all the walking and activity, I would need a light meal at night.

I think adding tax and tip is fair because there is a 10% TIW discount, there would not be a discount with the DDP

It's crazy because for some reason at Disney our normal eating habits go out the window. We do have cold cereal in the room.

So far we are coming out close to even but we are eating more the way we like. so far we've had appetizers at every sit down, these would be extra on the ddp

You don't eat dinner?

You don't eat dinner?
I can't speak for Eliza but at WDW, we very often have a counter service equivalent breakfast, a large late sit down lunch and then wing it for dinner - sometimes sharing a counter service meal like pizza or chicken fingers, sometimes just going with snacks. If we have a big sit down breakfast (and we usually do once or twice per trip), we skip lunch and have a sit down dinner.

Plus the DDP only gives you two meals per day (right? It has been so long since I have used it) so if she were eating three meals per day, she'd have to pay OOP for that extra meal anyway. We have found OOP works better for us because we aren't tied into eating a certain way. Like Eliza, we like appetizers and we would prefer to skip dessert in a restaurant in a lot of cases and get a snack elsewhere instead.

You don't eat dinner?
Actually depends, the first day we went to Epcot and our favorite restaurant is Via Napoli. We got there at 2:30. Had 2 appetizer, 1 large and 1 small pizza.
That was definitely enough for the night.

Yesterday we ate lunch and dinner

Thanks for doing this. We're also DVCr's and I've always thought the ddp would be too much $$ and food for us. It's neat to see a real life comparison. Hope you guys have a great vacation!

Did you make any ADR's Eliza?

I like to eat what I want whenever as well.

I love this. I wrote down what we ate last trip and I need to go back and put in prices. I want to compare for us too.

I made a few but interestingly enough I've been cancelling a number of them. yesterday we had an ADR for Sci fi. Today we walked up to Portobello in DTD

Ok, so today was animal kingdom day. because the weather has been "sunny in the morning with afternoon down pours", we made it a point to get to the park by 9:15

Breakfast:

15.00. I brought cereal, pancake mix and syrup from home. i purchased eggs, milk, butter and spray. pancakes and eggs
8.50 2 chocolate chip cookies Africa AK
3.19. Sprite soda

Late lunch again due to big breakfast. 3:30 pm

Portebello's DTD. Walk up. No wait

14.00. Shrimp spiedino appetizers
8.00. Cesear salad appetizers
11.00 4 cheese pizza entree
13.50 lasagna (excellent)
14.00. Spaghetti & meatballs
6.00 sopressa di fragolina (strawberry lemonade)
16.00 2 Italian sodas
3.00 coke

Total so far 107.00

Now once again due to the late lunch we will probably NOT Have a big dinner meal. we're at the pool and will probably head to Epcot at 8:00 for illumination and snacks

Edited to add
Had 2 ham/cheese croissants in France. 10.00
2 glasses of champagne. 24.00
1 cheese something or another in France. 6.00

Days total. $150.00

Nice, easy peasy and delicious breakfast! (Love DVC rooms)

I like this, thanks! One thing to consider, you are posting 3 meals, but ddp only gives one cs and one ts per day. It looks like you are still coming out ahead eating what you want, which we have found on our trips also.

Oh, i haven't seen any of your posts mention dinner.

Thank you for doing this!! I tallied at the end of my trip after DDP and broke even. I tallied at the end of my trip after OOP and made out $200 cheaper, and ate the way I wanted to.

Hey my2cg,
This is my 3rd night, yes generally we do eat dinner. yesterday we had dinner at Sci Fi dinner. Normally we have tẃo big meals but because the weather has forced us to keep us moving much of the day, we've been eating around 4 ish, which is a late lunch/early dinner
