So Disgusted-Weather

We had a water logged day at Epcot in May 2013, which I can not say was awesome. We put on the heavy ponchos and got through it as best we could (we had an Akershus ADR for dinner that we were trying to stay for so we wouldn't get charged the cancellation for 6 people). I think it is harder to manage in the rain if you have kids instead of just adults. Luckily ours were still in a stroller then, and we just popped on their rain cover. I didn't really find the rides to be "walk-on", and we were bummed as we stood in the FP line 4 times that day for TT and only got to ride at the very end of the night, just barely, before they shut it down again. Safety first but it was a frustrating day. All the other days of that trip were predicted to rain but we saw very little other rain and had a great trip. I hope yours is less rain than they are saying too! Here is a waterproof backpack that we found really helpful for keeping the sweatshirt/fleece dry so we could cover up in cold restaurants etc when wet:

I kept reading the response and thinking the same thing. Chaining the doors are against so many safety protocols and I'm pretty sure would get them in a ton of troubl if a flood happened or fire and there was no way for people to escape.

I was also thinking the same thing.

No idea. It didn't cross my mind. They were more concerned that those big doors did not blow open. It was kind of creepy seeing the chains on the doors, but we weren't going anywhere. The storm hit about 6 pm and they chained the doors about an hour later. I didn't check out any of the small side doors. They may have just been locked. Some of the ride out crew had their pets with them, so they must have had a way to take them out.

On the bright side, we never felt unsafe. The lodge never lost power. They put sheets of paper with storm updates under our room door every few hours. They alternated opening Boma and Jinko for meals in the evening. They had box lunches available during the day. They provided as much entertainment as possible. Minnie was there and some of the staff performed dances for us. Only at the height of the storm, did they ask us to remain in our room. We also had to bring the furniture from the balcony into the room, which did make it a bit crowded. All in all, it was just kind of a boring couple of days.

we got here on Wednesday and have had good timing: we were at lunch during Thursday downpour and at dinner for tonight's. We did wait in the restaurant for about 15 minutes or so after eating because the lightening was so bad. I don't mind making our way around in the rain, but don't like to take chances with the lightening.

We were here for Frances and were locked down at Poly Concierge. Hoping not to lose too much vacation time to this storm!

we're at WL and received a first phone message tonight - that they will keep us updated on Erika.

OK, so if it turns into a tropical storm and there is high winds and rain Tues and Wed, we have to stay in our rooms? We are staying at CBR. They would deliver food to the room? How wound they deliver that much food? There are over 2200 rooms in this resort, could they really accommodate that many people? I can't believe there hasn't been a hurricane in 10 years and now one is coming.

To top it off, I have 3 children with I-Pads and we brought 2 ipad chargers and now is not working. Better run out and get another charger, don't want to be stuck in room with 3 children with 3 ipads with only 1 charger, that won't be pretty!

A few years ago I heard a tip on a Disney podcast about how to dry your tennis shoes out if you get them wet. Wad up newspaper and place it inside the shoe; it absorbs all the moisture. I tried it and it does work. As for the OP, I totally understand how you feel. Living in Oklahoma, I do love storms and the rain . . . just not on my vacation. :guilty:

I had heard this tip before, but we were in our hotel room for the night without any newspaper. I stuck a hand towel in each of our pairs of shoes (one end of the towel in each shoe.) They were still wet the next morning, so we changed the towels and wore our other shoes. By the following day they were ready to go again. That's when I understood the Ultimate Packing List's suggestion of two pairs of shoes each, for alternating. My daughter's walking sandals fell apart one rainy day in Hollywood studios and we were stuck buying the $40 Disney Crocs, but she ended up being the most comfortable of us all for the rest of the trip.

To go back to earlier posts- if it is lightening, please take cover! I live in Florida and there are people killed every year by lightening here. Sometimes people are killed when the storm is not close yet. Florida has many more lightening strikes than other states. Personally I enjoy being in the parks when there is rain and no lightening. I don,t mind getting wet and enjoy the shorter wait times.

You will not have to stay in your room if it's a tropical storm. We were there during tropical storm Debbie a few years ago and other than 72 hours of nonstop rain and some ride closures, it was business as usual at WDW.

We are flying out Tuesday, for my dad's 80th birthday trip for the extended family. I hope our flights do not get delayed.

There was lightning when we were at the Studios last year, we were under an awning by a building facing the American Idol thing (shortly before it closed) for a while. Otherwise go into a building

I'm headed there tomorrow morning for a work conference at the Dolphin. I so hope the parks are open Tuesday night. Would any recommend a certain pair of shoes for the rain (other than rain boots - I looked this weekend and can't find them anywhere here)?

Keen hiking sandals, comfortable to walk in all day and great when the weather gets wet

We're flying in tomorrow too. Looks like the normal FL weather forecast. I don't forsee any parks closing. DH and I wear Teva's and my girls wear Sanuk flip flips. No problem in the rain and very comfortable for all day walking!

With at least several people thinking "How dare Disney have all this rain? Stupid FP+ and the rain it brings. WHAT IS AN ADR"

I was on property Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

It rained EVERY day . .and not just rain .. but sky opening drenching thunderstorms for at least 1-2 hours in the afternoon/evening.

It was difficult, but we were prepared with ponchos every day and it helped that the rains corresponded to our meal times. The only day it was an issue was when it started about an hour before our BOG lunch .. we had FP for SDMT, but they shut it down and we had to find shelter from the rain (not easy in Fantasyland) waiting for our BOG reservation. We just went back to the hotel after lunch and when we returned for dinner the rest of the day was fine and we got a "free" fast pass to use any time of the day for SDMT which helped since we missed our first window.

Hollywood Studios day same thing .. sky opened around dinner and we hit Muppets and then Pizza Planet during the downpour. After that, skies cleared and everything was running.

Saturday - same thing .. around dinner (at Trail's End restaurant) . .the sky opened and it rained the rest of night. The hardest part was standing under shelters waiting for a bus (the boats weren't running due to lightning).

If it rains all day .. stink .. but if it is just an hour or two of thunderstorms ... annoying but tolerable (and cools it off nicely).

OP here-I will never believe another weather report. I was so worried but so far the weather has been ok. We have had a few short thunderstorms but we were eating dinner or just went inside. Nothing has really affected our touring. At the beginning of our trip it looked like 5-6 days of constant rain. Just wanted to mention to others, not to worry because weather is not believeable and so unpredictable.

Agreed!!! We got here Friday night and the weather has been incredible! Mostly cloudy, not too hot, and some short rainstorms. With the exception of the hours-long sideways rain that put a damper on our Sat MK p.m. EMH touring, it's been fantastic.
