Bagels

Party of 18 with most of us staying in a GV at the AKL Jambo house. Rented a car for one night to get our grocery shopping done. Any good bagel shop's around to get bagels?

The place I was going to suggest, A Roll With A Hole, is now closed. Perrotti's NY Deli Express had NYC Just Bagels (frozen) for $10 per dozen.

There is an Einstein Brother's Bagels in Orlando on South Orange Avenue. They are not open in the evening. Since we drive we bring our bagels from the shop here at home but I have eaten there once a few years ago.

There are 2 Paneras nearby - one near the outlets off of 535 and one off of 192 going towards Orange Lake.

I enjoy frozen lenders bagels when in Florida. Not the real thing but still good. In the freezer section of supermarkets

Yes some of us are from NY and were aware it wont come close but just a thought. We might try the Panera or just scrap it all together. Thank you all for your input.

Your post reminds me of how one searched close to ten years for a good bagel in my hometown. Finally found one. That was a great day.

No offense but that is not a bagel. Kind of like saying Domino's is pizza. Or store bought italian bread wrapped in plastic and softer than a sponge is good bread.

I agree but in the absence of anything else I can tolerate them toasted. I'm partial to Montreal style bagels myself, cooked in a wood oven.

Nothings better than walking into a legit bagel shop opening the door and having the sweet smell of a fresh bagel. Makes my mouth water just thinking about it.

As a former New Yorker, Panera is good for anything but a proper bagel. Nothing beat the cold winter morning like my dad bringing home hot salt bagels on his way home from night shift. Did not even have to toast them. The butter melted right on them.

The only time I even eat bagels anymore are on my all too rare trips back up. Bagel Boss in Plainview was always a solid choice.

I would say if you're a NY bagel snob then you should bring them with you!! If you're like me and didn't grow up on NY bagels and are more tolerant of a less than perfect bagel then I would go to a Panera or Einsten Bagels or something and buy them there. Whenever I first moved to DC my old roommates were both from NY but I was from WV. There WERE NO BAGELS in WV so to me a bagel is a bagel. But lemme tell ya these girls knew their bagels and they had to come at least close to a NY bagel or they wouldn't have anything to do with them. So we made a friend that owned a bagel shop with bagels they could live with and he said it's all in the water. Apparently it takes a particular something in the water to make a good bagel - which would be one reason why a FL bagel is going to be different from a NY bagel.

Hmmmm....maybe a unique business opportunity :)

Hmmm....bagel smuggler? :smooth: As an aside, I can appreciate bagel snobs, and that many items labeled as bagels don't live up to the real thing. The only thing I can say to that: More cream cheese.:sunny:

Id love to bring them with us and would if I wasn't flying and there wasn't 18 in our party lol. I live in VA and still have family back in NY so when we visit or they visit the underground bagel railroad commences.

OK, well, so maybe everybody has to pack their own bagels then and if they don't then they have to go to Panera!?! o_O

OMG! I love St-Viateur's bagels. They are THE BEST in my opinion. My DH has family in Montreal and we also bring bagels back when we visit.

Imagine the expression on the face of the TSA agent when they unzip a giant duffle bag expecting to find a cache of cash & drugs...and it's all BAGELS!:earseek:
