September 2015 Countdown!

My parents always did that too, but with chores. It backfired pretty quickly, when my brother said he didn't care, because he didn't want to go anyway. So yeah...definitely not a tactic I intend to use. Too many of my genes are the same as my brother's. I'll probably get a kid just like him!

I was really on the fence about surprising DS, but since he's only 5, he doesn't have a great grasp of time passing. I can't even tell him we're going to visit his grandparents, until a few days before, because he'll ask when we're leaving every 5 minutes. Part of the reason I'm surprising him this time is that I know he'd talk about the trip constantly at school, and that would be distracting.
The other part is that I think it will be much more satisfying as a surprise if we get to leave within a few hours rather than days or months. I think when he's a little older, and can actually help me plan, I'll really enjoy telling him from the beginning, or surprising him a few weeks early, so he can be excited longer.

Hey, dance, I did this for my first kid many years ago and am doing now for DD6. To help give an idea about time left before the trip, we make a paper chain. First we decorate each link with things associated with the trip. ..draw a castle, ToT, etc. Each morning we take off a link. We usually begin it around day 40 or 50. Loads of fun to watch that chain get shorter....excitement for the whole family!

By the way, my DH doesn't like the non stop talk either! Maybe you and I should call each other and plan our trips!

I have 4 days left and I have pretty much nothing to do! I'm leaving for my hair cut in an hour and then I have to go to work to get another Coach wallet for my mother. When she heard I only paid $30 for the one I got for her birthday (She forced me to tell her.), she really wanted to get another one for her other purse. I guess working at Macy's has its perks. :rotfl:

I LOVE Macy's! Just ordered a ton of stuff for back to school and our trip :)

6 days...how am I at 6 days already!?!? Work is super busy at the moment and I'm going to have to work literally work every possible hour of every day for the next 6 days. So that's putting a bit of a damper on my excitement, but I know once I'm on the Magical Express I'm going to be dancing in my seat!

Everyone who is traveling this weekend, I wish you safe journeys to Florida!

I'm glad to hear you love Macy's! :goodvibes I've worked there for almost 3 1/2 years and I love the people I work with. The Disney Store at the same mall has been trying to recruit me for a while so I'm going to apply there for the holidays. They love me, not only for my money, but for me. :rotfl:

I just got an email from Disney saying I might be able to bypass the front desk! Not that I mind going to the front desk, but this could be fun! :D
I reread the email and it says may and not might, but it might as well say might. I completed all the requirements, but I'm still not convinced that I will get to bypass the front desk. :p We're planning on checking in around 11am at our first resort and 9am at our second resort.

If you already have your Magic Bands, and did online check in, then apparently they've been texting room numbers to people as soon as their assigned room is ready. So, if your room is ready before you arrive, then it's very likely you'll be able to skip the check in desk. Did you prioritize having a room ready on arrival over all other requests?

Oh, that is a good one! I LOVE the idea of telling her we will pick someone up, then be the ones really going! I'll think hard about how we would get luggage in the car without her knowing. Im sure she'll want some stuff in her carryon...but really great idea!!

We're still in a sedan, so it would be super easy for us to pull something like this off. Also, we live 2 hours from the airport, so we'll be staying with my Mom the night before anyway. The 4am wake up is the tough part. I could say that we have to go home already, but then he'll probably cry the whole way to the airport.

I think I can probably set up something at my Mom's house for him to open the night before, but then I'd be worried he'll be too excited to sleep, which would be bad on a day when we have to wake up at 4am, and on an airplane or in airports for half the day.

Eh...it's just rain, could be a lot worse! A rainy day in Disney is better than being home!! It's all about mindset going into it.

I went ahead and ordered a rain cover for my stroller a few weeks ago. Then I ended up needing it on the first day of school! DH and I can handle being wet just fine, and hopefully the kids will stay happily dry under their clear vinyl canopy.
We lived through monsoon season in Korea twice, so I think a few days at Disney in the rain will be quite pleasant.

I have seen that idea, and I think it would work well for DS, assuming we actually get to plan a trip in advance at some point. This trip was only planned a month ago, and I honestly wasn't sure that DH would get the leave approved until a few days ago. I think we have a good chance of being able to plan our vacations more in advance from now on (hopefully we'll be able to live in one place for more than 18 months) but I'd still be worried to be planning something and then have to tell DS we can't go.
I had a trip planned for December last year, and ended up canceling 30 days out. I've planned more trips that I've had to cancel than we've actually gone on!

The nonstop Disney bug is why I have to get on here. I'm kind of sad that my Jan '09 discussion thread has started petering out, because there were like 10 of us who were still getting on there to chat, until about a year ago. We're all friends on Facebook now, but it's not the same! DH doesn't like to tell his parents about our vacations for whatever reason, so I can't do countdowns or anything like that on there.

I didn't prioritize having my room ready above any other requests. We're just staying one night at ASMu before our WL stay (which I had special requests). It really doesn't matter to us, but if we do get a text, that'll be even better. We plan on going to the pool after we check in so if we don't get a text, we'll just leave our bags and head to the pool. We'll see how it goes.

We have some requests that I'd really like to get, so I didn't prioritize a ready room either. I don't expect to be getting off Magical Express until after 5pm though, so I'd be really surprised if our room isn't ready when we get there. I'm kind of intrigued by not having to physically go to the check in desk.
I want to purchase some Disney Dollars for DS to use during our trip, and I don't really want him to see me buying them, so if we can go to the room first and get settled, then it will be easier for DH to distract him.

My hair is cut and I feel fabulous! Now can it be time to leave for Disney? I am just so impatient right now! Everything is done besides the day before stuff. Oh! And DH is feeling much better than he did yesterday. He's still not feeling 100%, but I'm sure over the next day or two he'll be 100%. He just needs more R&R.
