Official 2016 5th Anniversary Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend!

(Cross posted to my other race boards- sorry to those who have to see it multiple times)

Came home, it was raining. Plus, I just had a haircut and blow out yesterday. Laced up, put on my running bra, then talked myself out of it. I mean, I spent 2 hours and 90 bucks on my hair. So took everything off.

Then decided that I wanted to make fish sticks and chilli bites (not healthy in the least but bear with me...) from Schwann's. Hmm. Package says oven needs to heat to 475. That'll take at least 10 minutes. Then 7 minutes per side cooking. I could be more than half way done with my short run/timed training while I'm making dinner......

So guess what won out?

Yeah, my do ain't did no more but I'm happy to report that I made 4 miles in 44 minutes on 'mill. :yay:

I understand completely about the hair....especially if you JUST had it done. Good for you for getting your run in.

Good job getting your run in!!!!!! yea my hair days are always non workout days! Hate spending the money and then messing it up. BUT you did the right thing! So how were the chili bites? I love Schwanns. Haven't had them deliver in years though. Might need to look back into that...

I'm pretty happy that I ran 1.5 doing 2:1s on the treadmill last night. A couple folks on this thread know I was out with an IT band issue since April. Just started running again in July. PT started me at .5 miles with 30 second intervals so I'm really happy to be up to this point so far!

Awesome! That's definitely a great use of the time it takes to make dinner. I also hate messing up my hair ... but the run is more important sometimes!

One of these years I'm going to run this race weekend for the sole purpose of running on my birthday. I'd love to do it this year because the half falls right in my birthday but I will not be able to. I know it's a female geared race but running on my birthday in Disneyland just seems so awesome.

If you really want to do the race, you should totally do it...female-geared or otherwise. My brother ran the Princess Half with me in 2011 and he was okay with it. :teeth:

If I'm being honest, the Tink them doesn't really appeal to me all that much...but getting more runDisney bling does. That and the fact that I know people rave about the Tink courses. :)

And really, what better way to celebrate your birthday than by running through a Disney castle?!

Does anyone remember what time the expo is open to on Friday?
And anyone know approx how long it takes to get from SNA to DLH after landing if you have a checked bag, assuming you'd be landing late afternoon/early evening?

Just curious :)

I don't know about SNA, but here are the 2015 expo hours. I'd assume 2016 will be similar, if not exactly the same:

Thursday May 7, 2015 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Friday, May 8, 2015 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Saturday, May 9, 2015 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

I would say it depends on how fast your bag comes out. You know if you are in a rush....it ALWAYS takes a longer time. Will you take a cab or Super Shuttle ?? Keep in mind sometimes you have to wait for the Super Shuttle to be COMPLETELY filled with other passengers, and then who knows what order you will be dropped off at. SNA to the DLR is about 25 min, that's without any traffic issues. One good thing about the Super Shuttle is they use the carpool lanes and on a Friday afternoon that can save you some time vs sitting on the freeway in the regular lanes. My guess about 1hr 15 min for all this if everything goes smoothly.

Isn't that the truth though! Since its just me I'll take Super Shuttle most likely. I'll basically estimate that it will take 1.5 hrs from the time I land until the time I get to my hotel. Thanks! Haven't flown to Disneyland ever so all new to me. When you guys fly down for a race, do you check a bag? I just dont see me getting all my normal clothes and running clothes into a carry-on.

Go for it, there's no better place to run on your birthday. I'm doing that next year w/ Honolulu, the race falls on my bday and I look at it as how could I not run the race?

I always guesstimate an hour from the time I hit the van until I'm at the hotel. I've never come in w/ night rush hour from SNA, but I've done morning and it's not too bad. I got in around 8am for the 24 hour on Fri morning and was in the parks at 9:05, although I didn't go to the hotel 1st and got dropped off at BWPPI. SNA is really good w/ checked bags and b/c it's small I've always had my bag w/in 15 min of getting off the plane. I have a gym bag that I bring w/ me on the plane that has race stuff and check a suitcase, b/c I'll pack my water and powerade for the race so I don't have to buy it there, and the nice part is it's gone post race so I don't check it coming back and I have some extra room in my suitcase.

when I fly I always check a bag and carry on my race gear -- I need room to bring back all my treasures!

We've been minimalist packers for a few years now. Travelling for races used to be a challenge. Not anymore. We each have one carry on and personal bag each. My DW carries her purse and I carry a camera bag / backpack. We each have a Tom Bihn Aeronaut 45. Bihn bags are quite amazing and very versatile. http://www.tombihn.com/backpacks/TB0906.html Definitely one of the best investments we've made in our travels. Also we've been quite surprised by how little we need for a DL trip. The clothes we wear to fly in are also our EXPO and Day one clothing. If you're doing PDC you'll be receiving 3 tech shirts at the Expo. Throw in the 5K and that's 4 shirts. Cali weather makes a tech shirt perfect for wearing around the parks. This year post Expo I simply rinsed the shirts with water and some shampoo in my hotel room and hung them up near the A/C. Dry by morning. Post race changed into one of the shirts and shorts. We were there for 5 days total. Only had to pack 2 shirts.

And I still have room in my carry on for 2 pairs of running shoes, a pair of sandals, hydration belt, running kilt, stick roller, moji mini pro massager, roll of KT Tape, knee brace, other misc running gear, nutrition, and all my socks, underwear, and toiletries. All with plenty of room to spare to bring back goodies from the EXPO and parks.

I'm a crazy overpacker - I'll be checking a bag and taking a rolling carry-on as well, and that will hold all of my running stuff. I over-packed for Dopey this year, as per usual, and it ended up being a good thing as there was a crazy cold snap in Orlando. Thankfully I had a bunch of extra throwaway clothes I could use for the races so I wasn't freezing. And as @dec2009mama says...more room four souvenirs that way. :)

I haven't done Disneyland for a race. I'm fairly certain I could do a regular size backpack and purse though. I travel with someone who packs so well we only took backpacks and purses for a weeklong trip to the UK. The biggest tip I have is to pack skivvy rolls especially for clothes that don't wrinkle (I do it for clothes that do and hang them in the bathroom while I'm taking a shower so the steam gets the worst of the wrinkles out) they keep outfits together as well so you're not digging through to find what you want. I usually wear whatever jacket or jackets I bring because I get cold on planes. I also bring a folding duffle that I can pack as a check bag if necessary on the way home to store souvenirs. The nice thing about throw away clothes too is that you don't come home with them so bring some if they fit into what you're wearing.

I have a over packing problem. We have a good size SUV so we drive down for the DL races so thankfully I CAN over pack. It's something I really try not to do but I tend to panic and just start bringing all this extra stuff "just in case we need it". And it's always fun to try and bring our mouseketeer's mickey mouse balloon back home too.

How far is the walk from a hotel on Harbour to the corrals in the morning? I'd like to stay at one of the Disney hotels, but the price may be pushing it a bit. If any of you go alone, where do you feel most safe?

It's about 1/2 mile give or take, not bad at all. You really can't go wrong w/ any of the hotels on Harbor. There'll be tons of people walking to the races so you won't be alone. :goodvibes I've stayed at the Quality Inn on Manchester on nonrace weekends before and have been and felt fine walking back by myself, even late at night.
