What's your best kept Disney secrets?

Agent Ps Showcase Adventure. Its a little bit like Sorcerers but you play in the Pavilions at WS. The 2 nine year olds in our group ran around WS for hours and played Agent P, leaving DH and me to stroll and relax. Best afternoon ever!
I'm going to WDW with my 11yo DD in a few weeks and we love Epcot. She did Agent P years ago when we traveled with another family with kids but this time she'll be alone - - would it be fun for a child by herself?

DD, now 10, says maybe not. Running around Epcot last summer with her friend was awesome. Doing it by herself, or with mom and dad, wouldn't be the same.

Still, as a mom, I think I would encourage her to play one country and see how it goes.

-maybe not the greatest secret, but if you buy a caramel apple anywhere ask them to cut it up for you and they will. Makes it much easier to eat!

-at Starbucks you can get any size drink with a snack credit

-in Muppets 3D, there is a sign that says "key is under the mat" - if you look under the mat, you might find that the sign isn't lying...

-Rebel Spy trick: the CMs only have a few seconds to grab someone's picture to use them as the rebel spy. Most people are fumbling with their seatbelts and bags and they need someone looking forward with a 'pleasant' look on their face pretty quickly after they are seated. This worked like a charm for us - my fiance was the rebel spy twice!

-we were routinely let in about 15 minutes before park opening at Epcot, HS and AK

-posted wait times are often exaggerated. Disney would rather you feel like you waited less than you were expecting than the other way around. Particularly in the last hour or so, wait times are often much higher than what they actually are.

-you can get in line at any attraction right up until closing (i.e. you can get in line for Mine Train at 9:59pm during a 10pm closing and you will be able to ride)

-on the carrousel at MK, look for the horse with a golden ribbon on its tail - that's Cinderella's horse.

Best secret tip I've ever been given... visit MK early on the day after it's been open late for EMH. My Nephew and I did this and completed 12 attractions by lunchtime. It was actually a little bit strange to just walk on so many things.

Thats a good one. I might be one of those people at the EMH... but this is a good idea if I wish to cancel that out!

Good ones. Thanks.

Your picture is also a great tip. It is fun to get different types of pics w the characters. I love the idea of the heart.

.

Good to know! DD8 was sooooo excited last year when she was the rebel spy.

I live in Boston and we have one on the common (so it's never seemed like a big deal to me, personally.) But the AAA discount is intriguing. I wonder if they do it up here.

Great to know about 4 parks in one day though DrivenByDisney. I'm planning a 4 in 1 day too - we're doing AK - HS - EP - MK.

Also, the path to the Boardwalk from HS is doable in about 10 minutes if you run. I had the unfortunate experience of doing that last year on my first day (my friend and I needed to see the Belmont and the ESPN lounge was apparently the only place with a TV!) It was a HOT day in June with no breeze and the host at the ESPN probably thought we were going to die from heat exhaustion so he let us in to the bar to cool off.

We've done AK (EMH) - HS - EP. The plan was to finish at the MK and we still had several hours, but I wanted to lay down and die in front of Spaceship Earth. I literally could not move my arms or legs, once I laid down in bed. Our mistake was not having a better plan at Epcot, so we walked more than we should have. I'd do it again, though, and I'm sure your day will be great! Good luck! :)

In Adventureland, you can get Treasure Maps and search for pirate treasure. My DS age 4 loved it! He's too young for Sorcerers, but we had to follow my 10 yo DD all over MK for the Sorcerers game. When we found Pirate's Adventure, he was hooked! He wants to go back with HIS treasure maps!

Where exactly do you get the maps? Trying to plan for my six-year-old boy, because he's sandwiched between two princess-obsessed girls. He loves pirates and maps; we have to get one at the zoo, gardens, museum, Six Flags, etc.

[EDIT] Never mind; I googled it. Too cute! Definitely doing this in October.

Do you know if this is the case on a party night? One last ride at 7 p.m. and then possibly be escorted out?

Similarly, I see a show scheduled at 6 p.m. the day we'll be in AK and "close" is 6 p.m. Is that normal?

I think the caramel apple tip is a great one! I've actually cut them before myself.

Thanks!!!! I've always wanted to go on but I think my motion sickness will act up....darn I'd love to be the rebel spy

One of the biggest "secrets" I know is to not buy bottle water. Most of the quick service locations have filtered water. Ask for a cup of ice water instead of spending $3 every time you are thirsty.

When trying to enter/exit Magic Kingdom, instead of walking through crowded Main St and dodging everyone stopping to take a picture of the castle, walk throught the gift shops. It can be troublesome if you have a stroller, but other than that it's usually a lot faster, not to mentioned it's air conditioned.

When buying snacks (this mostly works for families of 4 or more), it's better to buy one cupcake and cut it in 4 pieces. No one really needs to eat an entire giant cupcake on their own, and it's easier on the wallet.

Character Palooza is an amazing way to meet upwards of 8 characters in an incredibly short amount of time. Character Palooza happens at the exit of Tower of Terror (Kenny the Pirate has a schedule for specific times on specific dates). My girlfriend and I did Character Palooza three times when we went this past Feb. We met some pretty rare characters; Genie, Robin Hood, Evil Queen, and Pinocchio to name a few! If there is more than one Character Palooza a day, the characters usually don't change. With that being said, typically there are new characters every day! There were a couple characters that were there every time we went though (Tiana, Stitch, Jasmin, Aladdin).

PM me if you want any park specific secrets though!

EDIT: Seems like about a week after my original post, Disney World decided to "do away" with Character Palooza. Instead it will be a much more random event. See the below link for more details:

They didn't "do away" with Character Palooza

This isn't a secret but its always amazing how many people don't believe it or choose to ignore it then complain they didn't get anything done because of the crowds. Go early. Go early. Go early. Get there by rope drop at the latest. You can get SO MUCH done before 10 or 11. Then if you're tired have lunch and a nap!

I've always liked to let people know they can walk from the Studios to EPCOT faster than waiting and taking a bus. It's really only about a 25 minute walk to get to the Boardwalk from the Studios. I always take this path unless it's raining or just stupid hot.

Thank you for this reminder. I have one day solo before my trip starts with my mom and I am trying to do all four parks. I am having dinner at Cape May so want to end at Epcot or MGM. Thanks!

Another tip I like is the best spot to watch Illuminations from (for me). If you are looking at the Rose & Crown in the United Kingdom ... There is patio seating to the left of the restaurant/pub. Many people do not sit over there as they think it is a part of the Rose & Crown, but it's not.

We always watch Illuminations from this spot as it is pretty much gives you an unobstructed view of the entire show, front & center. There are few chairs available (probably around 30 or so) and the tables are fixed to the ground so you do have to get there early to garner a spot. However, we typically grab some fish & chips from the Yorkshire County Chip Shop (out door vendor at Rose & Crown) a few pints and enjoy the best view of Illuminations.

Thanks for that tip, def gonna try that!

Tip from me: during the Osborne spectacle of lights there's a Halloween cat that was accidentally sent along with the Christmas lights but Disney still puts it in display. It's moved around every year.
