5 am flight and DME

Long time lurker, rarely post.

If I were to book a 5:10 am flight, I would assume Disney Magical Express would still pick me up at around 2:10/2:30 am. That is just crazy early. I'm staying at Pop Century. I'm trying to see if anyone has experience with using the bus at that hour?

Yes still three hours ahead. You will have to take your own baggage and do your own check in though.

I would be tempted to spend the night at an airport hotel. When you fill out the DME flight information, just list it as the night before, take the bus to the airport, shuttle to the hotel, and get a good night sleep.

Thanks for the quick responses. I haven't booked flight yet but just weighing all my options.

I agree to stay at the airport that night, or don't pick such an early flight home if you can avoid it.
We always go home very late, so we can check our luggage in the morning and have a full day, then get ME to the airport with time for a quick dinner before heading home.
We always go Saturday to Saturday, though, so have Sunday to rest up!

Just a warning... if you think you are going to close down a park and then take DME to the airport, it probably won't work. What Disney does is put everyone on the "late" flights on the last bus. And the late flights out of MCO tend to be around 9 or 10 pm so your bus is 6 or 7. And no, telling them "I want to be at the airport at midnight" won't work. In their mind the 6 PM bus will get you there by your midnight request

It's awful, don't do it. We did that once back when our kids were 3 and 5. We had a 7:00 am flight out of MCO and had to be down to the DME pick up by 4 am. Simply awful.

Every trip since then, we just don't pick a flight that departs before 1 pm.

For someone without small kids it can work out really well.

If we (me, my husband, and our 15 year old) had a 5 am flight, we would just go to the park with EMH, stay until 12:30 and then head back to the resort. That would actually be the perfect time to fly out for us.

You do realize that you will have to pay for that last night. You can't head back to the hotel at 12:30 and catch the bus a few hours later if you checked out the day prior. DME is the day of departure, not the day after.

We have done an early flight/DME pick up. I don't remember exacts, but the sun was barely rising when we were leaving CSR. It was a very relaxing ride, quiet, dark-ish. While it did stink having to get up so early on my last day...it was my last day no matter what time I was leaving, so to be up when it is quiet and serene, and be home before late was kinda nice.

We had a 2 year old at that point and it was not a big deal..

I did it once. I was at Jellyrolls with friends so I went back to the resort, laid down on the bed and chatted with my friend for an hour, and then got on the bus.
