So confused about golf carts?

I apologize in advance if the answer is here and I am not finding it, I did do a search!

I called today to book a golf cart for my long weekend at the Fort, but, one of the dates is sold out in the middle of my weekend. Do I have any other options? Is there anyway to do an off site rental? I have a Suburban, so, I can pick up a golf cart, but, I have no trailer. I asked the CM and he got all kinds of crazy mad when I asked about outside delivery.

Ideas? Suggestions?

On a different note, they said I wouldn't be able to pick up the golf cart until 1pm, and I would have to have it back by 11am, on the days that they did have available. I don't want to have to do this twice.... my fault I realize for not booking earlier, I accept that, just wondering if there is any other way to get a cart?

You can get offsite, but you have to go offsite and get it and bring it back. Typically the offsite vendors rent for half of Disney's cost. They usually have a trailer and you hook up to it and bring the cart into the Fort and then take the trailer back. Typically it took as bout an hour at most to do the entire swap out.

Disney gets bent out of shape when you rent offsite, but there is no way I'm paying $63 a day for a cart.

I totally agree with tiggerdad, $63 a day is ridiculous. We have rented off site each time we have stayed at the Fort. Once I met the vendor off site and brought the cart back. The other visits, we discussed with the vendor the current rentals that were already at the Fort and managed to take possession of the cart when the previous renters reservation was complete.

We just started camping this year, but at the few places we've been (Jellystone in 2 states and a place in OCMD) we're both $60/day. I thought Disney was high -- but maybe it's everywhere? Also, at least Disney allows outside carts -- my H won't buy one now because so many campgrounds in NJ and PA don't allow personal carts if you aren't a seasonal renter.

We have a Disney cart booked for Xmas week, but we might consider off site to save some money.

I just wish there was some way to get access to places to contact regarding outside rental. I've tried everything, including posting on this board.... googling golf cart rental vendors in Orlando area.... posting on other boards..... I have YET to get any information on how to contact an outside vendor other than Kenny. (who we will not use after 2 very bad experiences in the past few years) I'm not really sure there are that many outside vendors - we may just have to go ahead and reserve with Disney- the only problem is we REALLY need a 6 seater, and there is no guarantee on those being available. .. (so please if anyone has any names/phone numbers, could you PM me? )

I just did a Google ("Fort Wilderness Cart Rentals") and found several places to contact.

Rusty- if there was anyway you could message me those contacts, I would very much appreciate it! Not sure if it's my computer or what, but I just did that exact same search right now after you said that, and again- I get nothing. The only thing that came up was either the Fort Wilderness rentals from Disney, or Golf cart rentals Orlando, whose price for a six seater is no better than Disneys.... I just can't find any other place to contact- and I've been trying for 6 months off and on to do a new google search.... Maybe northern MN internet just won't cooperate? :sad2:

I have similar questions, does Disney do a 6 seater? does Kenny? been awhile since i've been to the fort, and we're doing Cabin's this time with some more seasoned people with us so one would be nice.

Yes, but have very few. Reserve early.

Or followed by the customers.
:)

But why should they if rules aren't enforced.....:)

I agree wholeheartedly that customers should follow the rules, but we all know that mostly everyone trys to push the boundries and cast members in this instance are there to push you back inside those boundries, but they don't plain and simple. They pick and chooses what gets enforced and that isnt' even consistent. There have been numerous complaints and sightings listed here and elsewhere on the internet of kids driving carts and being seen by cast members and nothing is said, but god forbid you have a 1/4 inch of your tire off the pad and you get a note. While the guy right next to you has 4 cars on his site and 3 full wheels off the pad and doesn't get a thing.

Just because the rules aren't enforced, it doesn't make it right. When people do something because they know they can get away with it, that's where problems start. Granted, I know I am wishing for the Utopian world where we all do the right thing and that it will probably never happen in my lifetime, but one can hope.

That doesn't mean I am perfect either. Some rules I think are stupid and I might "Bend" them. For example when my eldest daughter was 14, she could and would drive the golf cart safely while some 24 year olds would be idiots with their driving.

What's that saying? "You can please some of the people some of the time..... but you cannot please all the people all the time!"

But, airport rentals don't have 12-year-olds running Chevys into trees or each other.
Yeah, they do this crazy thing called holding their renters responsible. Last cart I rented years ago had a horrible shake and pulled really bad, I took it back and they said thats all they had. It was beaten like a rented mule.

I think the reality is, in any discussion of this flavor, that society in general (whether inside or outside of the "Disney Bubble") remains mostly the same.

I personally feel that (and maybe it's just my Mickey colored glasses) to some extent, attitudes and behaviors change to be slightly better than "outside", but some things stay the same.

There is all sorts of law enforcement in the real world enforcing the rules, but people still drive and do all sorts of idiotic stuff. I don't believe they could ever realistically have enough cast members at the Fort to go around making sure everyone drives the carts correctly and within the rules. So, the wYs of society will prevail here as well.

As far as rental car price vs. rental car price, my own guess (having no clue) is that among rental car pricing's gazillion factors is volume that they deal with....while Disney may have " a lot" of carts, perhaps it's not enough to offer "mor reasonable" pricing when considering replacement/repair/maint. costs. Of course, everything here is my opinion and guess, so maybe they are just ripping us off..

And neither should the Fort if the rules were enforced by cast members.

They are given the safety spiel when they rent and I promise they are told NO KIDS driving if they are seen. Unfortunately NOT all of the cast members know all of the rules. For instance, a housekeeping cast member who sees your kid driving wont say anything cause they have no idea what the rules are. A recreation cast member will say something ALWAYS. Go ahead and let your kid drive the cart into a tree if you would like to pay the fee to fix the cart. Its not your property and you are responsible for the damage.

There are reasons why you have to drop by 11 and pick up at 1. They need time to clean and charge the carts. Every cart that is returned gets fully washed in the back and then charged as long as possible before putting it on the pickup line. There is only room enough in their backyard for "x" amount of carts so no they can not and do not have an unlimited inventory of carts to rent.
