Disney Descendents

We have watched it 4 times in our house. Thank you Disney Channel east and west. As a matter of fact it's currently on the tv.

I thought it was cute; enjoyed the songs. Hope they continue with the series.

I thought it was dreadful, but then I'm way beyond their targeted demo. I watched the first half hour then fast forwarded through most of the remaining ninety minutes hoping something would catch my interest...it didn't.

I had to endure a few scenes and songs from my kids this weekend, and well - I have no words.

Watched most of it with the kids, will finish it tonight. So far, I think it is pretty good. Both boys seems to be enjoying it so far.

IMO, it had some good moments and potential, but it was a jumbled mess. :( Like they tried to put in something for everybody. And the lipsyncing for the songs seemed to be a beat off from the movement of their lips.

DD loved it. But she's 4. She loved the music and the dancing. There are other Disney shows/musicals that I thought were much better. But I like the premise.

I honestly wonder if the writers of this production have ever seen any of the animated Disney films that this movie referenced. The mistress of all evil tap dancing?!? And it just went downhill from there.

Howard Ashman is turning over in his grave after the hip hop version of Be Our Guest.

Most of the offspring of the classic characters were an insult to their parents. At least their parents were spared (for now) from being lobotomized.

Honestly, I think the Shrek films, which certainly take frequent aim at Disney animated films are far more respectful of the Disney classics than this officially sanctioned and promoted by Disney production.

In my opinion, if another studio such as Warner Bros. or Paramount released a project like this with the obvious references to the Disney films, fans and the company would be furious.

I get the premise, but I think the characterization of the parents was terrible. I thought making the villains campy comedy relief was bad enough, but then they made the parents into lame, stupid, and clueless people.

I'm glad to see others who didn't like it. Yes, I know I'm not in the target audience range, but it just didn't work.

There were too many characters for us to get to know them or care about them. And since the plot was predictable, we needed to care about the characters to get into the film.

The music was okay at best, but the film didn't need it.

And the parents? Nothing like the Disney villains they were supposed to be. The acting was pretty bad (and I can handle cheesy acting) from all but Kristen Chenoweth and the two teen leads.

Yet, if they make the sequel, I'll probably wind up watching it, too.

My DD20 has always loved the Disney monthly movies. This is the first time I can remember her turning it off before the end.

The eight year old has watched it as many times as I've let her. I've watched most of it. I think I've missed the absolute beginning. I thought it was cute and on par with only Disney Channel movies, which my kids tend to enjoy and I like in varying degrees. I thought Dove Cameron was adorable. My teen DD really liked Ben. ;) I thought the campy evil song was fun. It's certainly not a classic film, but it appealed pretty well to the kids in my house that are their target demographic (nearly 9 and 15).

We have watched it twice. My DD9 liked it enough to watch it twice. :) And it is on again right now. It is campy. Kristen Chenowith tap dancing reminded me of the old Warner Bros cartoons when Bugs Bunny would get hold of a magic wand and make the bad guy sing opera. I just spoke to my daughter who said she would recommend it to school age girls (although noting that some boys like love stories too.) Frankly, the Disney Channel tween shows are big around here. It seems to please its target audience.

My DDs 9 and 4 loved it..... except for the Be Our Guest song. I thought is was ....meh. But, I'm not the target audience. I'd rather watch the live Cinderella.

I have watched it twice and loved it. I was on the fence the first time about the be our guest song but honestly it kind of grew on me. I still love the original but its still a kind of cool version too.

I didn't like most of the things with the parents though. They didn't look right and were a bit pathetic... the kids could get away with more since they never KNEW a world where they weren't all scraping by and weren't actually all that evil. (So breaking out into unmenacing songs and dancing doesn't seem as out of place as maleficent using her staff like a charlie chaplin cane.)

The Parents were the most disappointing of the entire cast with the exception of Maleficent played by Kristin Chenoweth. Dove Cameron stole the show with her portrayal of Maleficent's daughter. She has a wonderful voice.

I didn't like Maleficent either... but I understand that won't be a popular opinion and is just because I don't like her voice. I know she sings well... I just perfer to listen to others.

Agree that Dove stole the show. I liked Mitchell Hope in the movie as well.. I also loved that Belle and Beast were in charge, not Cinderella or Snow White :).

My husband and I think next they are going to make a second one where one of the "good" kids go evil and everyone has to deal with the idea that Auradon even with the Isle of the Lost won't necessarily always be free from someone evil.
