Hoop de doo experience as a couple?

Hi all,

Apologies if this has been asked before but couldn't seem to see it when I was searching.

My boyfriend and I are in out early/mid 20s and are looking to go to Disney next May and I was thinking about maybe trying to get an ADR for the Hoop de doo review. I just have a couple of quick (and probably silly) questions.

- Would we be seated at a table for just 2 people or would we share a table with other groups?
- I know the dinner is family style however if I was with people I didn't know, how would this work? Are there utensils to serve the food out as I wouldn't like someone else's hands all over it? Has anyone experienced this, what did you do?
- I've heard it's fun and silly but is it too childish or does it cater to a bit older crowd?

Sorry if these questions are daft :p and thanks in advance for any advice.

My husband and I went, and we loved it! It was just us at the table, so no worries. Ugh...I would have hated having to sit with strangers. It was one of the highlights of our trip. We thought that the show was great!

Cheers! It wasn't the sitting with strangers as I'm fairly chatty and Americans usually get super excited about my accent (lol) but more unknown sticky hands that concerned me :p

As previously stated, you will have your own table. We've been going as a couple for over 20 years.

As for the show- it is for guests of all ages. It is neither too childish or too adult for a family to enjoy, but it certainly is a lot of fun.

While unlikely, I have read that occasionally separate parties will be sat at the same table if there are no larger groups to fill the big tables. However, in that rare instance, both parties are served the family-style meal separately, so there would be no sharing chicken, etc. with anyone other than your boyfriend!

We did Hoop De Doo in 2007 on our Disneymoon and had our own table. It was an enjoyable night. The unlimited beer made the corny jokes hilarious ;-)

Unlimited beer? I missed that memo. LOL I don't drink so I guess the last I went since I was alone with my son, they were happy to serve me tea.
I know that sounds weird but I was really sick with allergies.

Anyway, it was just the two of us at a little table. I'm glad the OP asked cause I was just talking to DH about this option since there is an ADR open for a night we are there. And he will be happier if it's just the two of us at a table.
At the German place we were seated with a family of 4 and although they were nice, it was a bit awkward.

I guess I'll go ask if we should book.
Thanks

Ah I just went up to book Hoopdedoo and saw the menu include beer and wine. Nice for those that drink.
I didn't think there was anywhere on Disney property that had that included in the meal.
Funny how I kept going back and forth today on this show and this link popped up. Hmmm DIS has really been effecting these vacation plans. LOL

Mickey's Backyard BBQ and the Spirit of Aloha Luau also include beer and wine for the cost of the meal/show.

Cheers everyone! I think we might splurge on it one night! I would much rather spend a lot of money on a fun night that sitting in a stuffy fancy dining hall!

Would we be seated at a table for just 2 people or would we share a table with other groups?
. . . usually
. . . but, you could be put at one of the four large round tables (in Category-1)
. . . if no large groups or families that night, you might be seated with others
. . . this allows more people to be seated, and does not lose revenue with empty seats
. . . it also allows more Cat-1 seating; Cat-1 seats are more expensive and more profitable
. . . as a table assigner (1-2 times per month), I do this about one-half the time (REGARDLESS what others may say)

- I know the dinner is family style however if I was with people I didn't know, how would this work?
. . . if at a table with others, each group gets their own food dishes to share

Are there utensils to serve the food out as I wouldn't like someone else's hands all over it?
. . . no
. . . each grouping of food has its own utensils

Has anyone experienced this, what did you do?
. . . you could always ask to go elsewhere
. . . but, you could be put anywhere
. . . I would go-with-the-flow; fun is even better with others enjoying it

- I've heard it's fun and silly but is it too childish or does it cater to a bit older crowd?
. . . good for every age
. . . even old fogeys (like me)

To the next person that asks me why I'm going to Disney again......geesh....so much I still haven't done and didn't know. Of course by the way I plan things it sounds like I spend the whole vacation eating. But really the shows and characters make it more than eating. I can't wait.
Guess I didn't know about the beer and wine cause it's not something I usually get. But good to know.

I think you should splurge. It's something fun to do. And from the sounds of it, well worth the money. Look at it as an inexpensive price for an all you can eat/drink and show. Really if you went to a quick service and then a movie, you aren't really spending much less.
I"m glad I read this thread.

I know! I was trying to break it down and make sure I see it as dinner and a show rather than dinner that happens to have a show at the same time :p

That's how I look at it. I love theater so the shows/parades are my thing. And I have to eat too.
Disney is so much more than rides.
I'm getting super excited 86 days to go!!!

So jealous! I haven't even booked mine yet! Thinking end of April start of May to try and hit the tail end of flower and garden and start of SW weekends. Doubt it'll work though!

Whenever you go i hope it's Magical and fabulous. Actually I'm sure it will be.

My DH and I went on our honeymoon.., they upgraded our seats to a two-top table front and center in the row of tables right along the stage and interacted with us throughout the show. It was a great show and a great night!

We have been to the HDDR 4 of our 5 most recent trips (have an ADR for our upcoming Sept. 2015 trip). We have gone as just my DW and I and as a group of 4 with a couple of my DW's friends. We are in our early 30's and enjoy the HDDR.

No sharing of tables like in Biergarten so no worries there. We love the humor and there's a lot of it (6-Bit). We are in our *Roaring 40's*
