From the Sea to the World - Holiday Edition - Completed

All caught up with Epcot and DHA+S. That Salad at Turf Club does look great!! Question why is your sister "BUCKY"!!???

Wow! Early December, huh? I need to write this down...

Actually, my daughter's birthday is in early February. I wonder if the crowds would be similarly light then.

Mark, I talked to Michael about this and he says early February should be pretty good for crowds as well. The later it gets the more the crowds are going to built, especially for Presidents Day.

I am so sorry that your father was so poorly, especially during the holiday season. I hope he is better now.

It was really was not a pleasant time. He is much better now, but unfortunately not as good as one would hope.

Aulani sounds like a plan. I cannot think of a place I would rather visit.

If it just were not half way across the world from here... And since it is so far, I really want to make a trip to Hawaii really count and see the other islands as well. And then we are starting to talk about a pricey trip! But I think once we are back from California, I will start drawing up a tentative schedule and make a budget to see how bad it really is. And then Michael and I really want to get to Japan as well...

I missed that talk unfortunately.

It was not a great loss. But it was cute.

This looks amazing.

There is so much to admire with the lights!

Both dishes look delicious.

And the tasted equally delicious.

Looks like you had a really chilled out day. I love the holiday storytellers. What a shame that it was so cold though.

It was a wonderful day. It really was not about the rides at all, but about the entertainment and the atmosphere and the company. Just perfect!

At home I would potentially agree with Michael, but not at Disney or on vacation!

I hope California will be more of a draw to him than WDW.

I can't wait to see this for myself! So exciting!

Dragon Alley is truly wonderful!

I hope that this means it is less "thrilling" than Forbidden Journey, I hope that I can ride Gringott's without any ill effects.

I would say that the ride sensation is much milder.

This area looks really cool!

So many cool looking areas at Universal now!

I had problems with the Simpson's ride too, but not as much as FJ.

Interesting, I found FJ much easier on my system.

I did OK on Spiderman, but it was a little squirrely. I enjoyed what I've seen of the Transformer movies, but I have never "sat down and watched them". We often have movies going on in the background while I'm online or cooking and they were amusing enough for situations like that.

I have always a list of stuff to watch when I am ironing - so that is similar. But I would never put the Transformer movies on that list...

This area looks so cool! I can't imagine how cool the train part must be!

The train looks very realistic I think!

That sounds cool. I've always liked the Grinch.

It was a really good show. Definitely worth it to make a point of seeing it.

They had a walk through show there that I've heard has closed down, but I kind of enjoyed that. It's a neatly themed area, just not a lot going on.

Quite a shame that it is so small now.

Hmmm, maybe I should try it again, but when we are planning to go back to the room, not when it will take two hours to get my stomach back out of my throat.

They have updated the screens in FJ within the last year or so. The pictures are far clearer now and I think that makes it easier to tolerate as well. Also, did you sit in the middle of the bench or on the outside? I found the middle seats to be a bit milder in their motion.

Hey! I just posted the same thing from the other coast!

Yes, you did! How funny! Yours looks really great, too! Made me think that Michael and I should go there, but I don't think we would fit it in this time.

I do enjoy the hot tub when it is cool out, but sometimes have to draw the line.

When the getting in and out becomes to uncomfortable, it can't be healthy...

I can tell you that after I rode Forbidden Journey, I felt ill for almost two hours after riding. There is no ride at Disney that could prepare you for this and the "bench" shifts this way and that in every conceivable direction with no warning or indication of where you might move.

It gets better if you ride it several times as you know where the bench is going. ;-)

:roftl2: I would be happy to take some of the Gingerbread cones from the stand in your pictures!

Somehow, I totally missed out on buying any of the gingerbread there...

I'll go with Michael's choice on this one.

Not a fan of brie?

Fran would want this.

She likes sparkly things? I just think the little stones look like the Genie has shiny pimples all over him...

I'll keep this in mind when packing for my December trip.

:thumbsup2

This looks very yummy!

It was really good!

Menus at Disney are often seasonal and at that time of the year pumpkin would have been very popular at WDW.

Yes, that is what I thought as well. I think this is why that is a good time for me to travel, I love pumpkin!

Fun updates! A tour through EPCOT is always welcome, thank you!

Glad that you enjoyed it!

My favorite photo was the Mexico Pav one with the Senorita spreading her pretty dress. Super picturesque.

That is one of my favorites as well! This presentation was a bit of an unexpected success. We just took it in because it fit time wise and because I thought it would be something different than the European tradition focused ones we had seem so far. And it was really lovely, the performers did certainly enjoy sharing their traditions. And there were some guests who were clearly fans.

YOu know, I never really think to consider the resort restaurants very much, and I'm not even sure why. Maybe my perception that they lack the over-the-top theming I want? Maybe I need to look more carefully at those options.... because the food looks really amazing.

Oh, I have started to more or less ignore the theme park restaurants. I find that the ones at the resorts generally offer far better value with quality for money.

I will be back to finish the replies, but wanted to post the next update today!

Sorry Katharina! - Part 1

December 12

Today was our last full day in Florida together. And we had plans to spend most of the day at AK. We both love this park (I think it might even by my overall favourite park at WDW) and sometimes it is difficult to fit it into our schedule as it is more of a daytime than an evening park and as you might have noticed, Michael is not a morning person…

You'll note she says it like there's something wrong with that. I'm a morning person in my own way ... like two in the morning and three in the morning! ... As to DAK, it is my favorite WDW park, yet I spend the least amount of time there because usually it is closed by 6 p.m. Hopefully, with Rivers of Light debutting next year, the hours will increase to at least regular 9 and 10 p.m. closings.

We had talked about our trip plans a few weeks before the vacation on the phone and were talking about lunch that day and somehow we started talking about Yak & Yeti and how I had never been there. I looked at the menu and thought that it actually sounded quite good and I knew that it was quite popular here on the DIS, so I just went ahead and got us an ADR for a late lunch.

I had been maybe three times in its first two years and then never gone back. It wasn't because of the food, service or atmosphere, more like when I get to DAK at 2 and it closes at 5, I'm not thinking about dining there. Again, hope that changes.

A few days later I told Katharina about it and she was really upset that I would go there after I supposedly had told her that it would not be worth our time when we were at WDW together. It appears that she was far more interested in eating there than I had been in the past… So, that’s why today’s title is “Sorry Katharina!” – she will have to endure me writing about an experience that I prevented her from having!

Yes Bucky, I too am very sorry. We enjoyed the food and drink. But had I known you had wanted to go, I would have ordered more food and drink, so we could have had some for you. I easily could have consumed another 1000 calories. And your sister? Well, you've seen her drink!!! ;-)

So, we got to AK fairly early for us – about mid morning I think. We were greeted by yet another lovely Christmas tree:

DSC06552.jpg

Inside the park we encountered lots and lots of building walls! It seems like every time I am there they are digging up large areas of one park or another, but in the end there is not much we gain from all this disruption… (You might be able to tell from that comment that I am not a huge fan of the New Fantasyland). Here at AK it was all about reworking the area in front of the Tree of Life for the new night time happenings they are going to have there some time in the future.

I feel like from 2009 on every US theme park I've been to has been a Wall Kingdom. Just as soon as one park gets done, something else happens. My next walled park: Universal Studios Hollywood!

At least the building walls were much nicer here than at the MK!

DSC06555.jpg

Our first stop was to do some shopping as there were some Christmas items that I wanted to pick up. We thought that we were smart and get the stuff in the beginning and then have it sent to the front of the park. Well, the items that I wanted to buy were some Christmas tins that had chocolate in them. I was not that keen on the chocolate, but I wanted the tins as they would make wonderful cookie tins!

Yes, but you left out the 'cute' (not really) anecdote about how they wouldn't ship items to the front that were food because they can melt. Look, I get how that might be a concern in July when it is 96 degrees. But on a December day where its just a smidge over 60? Um ... no. So, we took turns carrying a large plastic bag of gifts around the park all day.

Yes, it seems I got distracted - I meant to write about this episode: Even metal tins with chocolate inside are considered to be food items that are excluded from being transported to park entrance - or resort.

I really liked the Christmas merchandise they had last year, which was a bit retro in style. Like this platter:

I think they have some items from that line at my local Disney outlet now!

DSC06553.jpg

I also really liked this “rat” kitchen towel:

DSC06554.jpg

After the shopping experience which ended with me having to carry around a bag, we went towards the Safari as we had a FP+ for it.

On the way there we saw some pretty big fish:

DSC06557.jpg

And then we got to Africa:

DSC06558.jpg

I am thinking that we might have done the Lion King show before the Safari. I know that we did it that day. As I said earlier, it is a really great addition to Africa and totally fits in there. It was a great show as always!

On to the Safari:

DSC06559.jpg

I never can resist trying to get some pictures every time I am on the Safari and I got a few nice ones this time as well:

DSC06562.jpg

DSC06563.jpg

DSC06565.jpg

At the exit some CM was doing laundry:

DSC06567.jpg

We headed over to Asia next and somehow started talking to the lady at the DVC kiosk there. It is definitely one of the best themed DVC kiosks!

I recall more. I recall that she was lovely. 30-something. Eastern European. And used some definite non-Disney approved language and really seemed to enjoy talking with you and I.

DSC06568.jpg

DSC06569.jpg

There were more building walls along the waterfront in Asia – that’s where they add infrastructure for the night time water show they are adding.

I really liked how nicely themed these were, here they all had Asian proverbs on them:

DSC06570.jpg

DSC06571.jpg

And then we headed to our next FP+, Expeditions Everest!

After our mountain expedition and good look through the gift shop there, it was time for our lunch reservation at the Yak and Yeti!

We immediately got seated when we got there and got a table on the ground floor looking out over the main walkway. I liked the location as it was very light where we were sitting and a smaller section, so not too noisy. We also had an excellent server who was great fun!

I started the meal with a drink. I am not totally sure, but I think it was the Big Bamboo: Malibu Coconut Rum, Bacardi Light Rum, DeKuyper Banana Liqueur and Tropical Fruit Juices:

I think I had a very exotic drink. Something called a Coke.

DSC06574.jpg

We were pretty hungry and decided to order some appetizers right away and then decide what else we wanted to eat. So we got the Wonton Soup - Pork wontons, clear chicken broth and vegetables and the Wok-Fired Green Beans - Battered green beans, sweet Thai chili dipping sauce:

DSC06576.jpg

DSC06577.jpg

Both were really tasty.

For our entrée we decided to share one serving of the Crispy Honey Chicken -Tempura chicken, broccoli, carrots, honey sauce and choice of jasmine or brown rice:

DSC06578.jpg

We upgraded to fried rice for this.

For me the appetizers were definitely better, but this was nice. Maybe I was expecting too much from it, but I thought the sauce was a bit bland. Still, it was a good dish.

All in all I was really pleasantly surprised with the meal! While we were eating the restaurant was definitely emptying out and by the time we left it was no longer crowded at all. This made for a very relaxed atmosphere and definitely enhanced our experience. I am not a huge fan of sit down meals inside the parks as I find them to be often very rushed. This was speedy, but it never felt rushed.

It was really an excellent meal. I definitely will be back sooner this time around. They also give discounts, albeit a paltry 10%, off entrees for DVC members. And they do similar for APers.

So, the good news for Katharina is: I would be very happy to eat there again on a future visit with her!

[I would too. I would even buy her a meal there. And I'd share some appetizers with her ... and we could tell stories about how funny the Americans are because they do crazy things like put mustard on a pretzel!]

I also went for a bit of a photo hunt at some point to document how truly awesome the restaurant is inside:

Sorry Katharina! - Part 2

After having had a lovely meal in Asia, we decided to go for a nice stroll through the gardens of Anandapur where we came across some tigers:

DSC06593.jpg

I really love those trails in Africa and Asia as they let you just explore on your own speed. And I find something new every time. This time we started reading quite a few of the boards that teach you about conservation etc. And one of the boards was about loss of habitat. It had this perfect picture explaining what loss of habitat feels like for animals:

Not gonna comment further because I am so angry and disgusted about the recent actions of an American dentist!

DSC06594.jpg

(see the upper left corner with the shrunk house)

We then proceeded on to see some pretty bird:

DSC06597.jpg

Around Flame Tree Barbecue they seemed to have a very tropical Christmas:

DSC06600.jpg

We headed back to the Safari for another ride:

And then it was time to say goodbye to Animal Kingdom. From here we headed over to Epcot for the evening.

I wish I could tell you more precisely what we did there. One thing that Michael and I remember (well, it was Michael who finally figured it out after I asked him what we did after AK), is that we had dinner at the Liberty Inn, the restaurant in the American Pavillion in Epcot. They have started to offer a steak dinner there and Michael wanted to try that. It was the New York Strip Steak with Demi Butter, French Fries and Steamed Broccoli for 12$. Really not to bad for Disney prices. I think I had the Red, White, and Blue Salad Field Greens, Ocean Spray® Craisins®, Pecans, Apples, Blue Cheese and Sherry Vinaigrette, but I could also have had a burger. I have no clue!!

First, you did have the salad and you liked the salad. I liked the steak 'for what it was' ... when you get a $12 steak at WDW you expect a Sizzler (are they still around?) quality type experience. That's what this was. The butter definitely gave it a better taste and disguised the fact that you weren't eating a high cut of cow. Still, I'd get it again.

The reason we went to Epcot was that Epcot had Extra Magic Hours that night. We were thinking of doing some shopping there and tried to find out what exactly would be open for EMH. This was really difficult as there was no precise information to be had. On my last visit I was disappointed to find out that film in France was not open for EMH, so I wanted to know what was open in order to plan what we wanted to do when.

Yes. I was quite unhappy by the fact that Disney doesn't tell you what is open at EMH anymore. They used to print out little info sheets (dating back to when you got wristbands) with what was open for attractions, shops and retail. Often with individual hours as say some full serve locations might serve until 10 or 10:15 on an 11 p.m. EMH close. When we asked a few CMs what would be open and failed, I tried another method. Let's just say that since I have numerous CM friends that I may know where you can just pick up a Tell-A-Cast, which is the little info guide that every CM carries, and is updated weekly. I figured that had to list openings and closings because it always did. Well, after 'finding' one of these, I looked and saw that even CMs are not provided that info. I thought that was insane. I do recall having a CM at one of the two big gift shops at WS Plaza calling someone on the phone for info. I really do not recall whether we ever got an answer. So, it's great that you can sit on your lazy behind and book a ride on SSE from your sofa a few months before your trip, yet Disney can't even tell you what is or isn't open when you are in the park. Makes perfect sense, right? RANT OVER.

We also picked up some gifts for Michael’s parents in the Germany pavilion together. This was great fun and I got a nice bottle of German wine for them. Supposedly they really enjoyed it, but I am sure they would be far too nice to say if they did not enjoy it. I have no clue whether it was any good, as I bought it just from the label and had never tried it myself.

Actually, it wound up sitting on their counter for months as my father recovered from surgery. One day (think it was March) he just opened the bottle and I think he drank the entire thing himself (no, not in one sitting or even one week). I know I never managed to get a taste. My mother may have had one small glass. But he did really love it, just as he adores his favorite German. To be fair, though, he might like Bucky better if he met her ... or if she just sent him bottles of that wine regularly! :-)

And then finally our last evening at WDW came to an end…

Our last evening for THAT trip. I guess it was somewhat fitting that it came to an end in Germany, right?

Yes, one would have thought that this was a sign - but it was not a sign for our next trip together would start in Germany (thinking of the real one there).

Up Next: Juicy Lucy

If it just were not half way across the world from here... And since it is so far, I really want to make a trip to Hawaii really count and see the other islands as well. And then we are starting to talk about a pricey trip! But I think once we are back from California, I will start drawing up a tentative schedule and make a budget to see how bad it really is.

That is a drawback. For us it is only marginally closer. We are planning to go back in 2018 and I think this is going to have to be a 4 week trip. We are intending to stop in New York in one direction and Los Angeles the other, spend some time at Aulani and do a cruise around the islands.

We headed over to Asia next and somehow started talking to the lady at the DVC kiosk there. It is definitely one of the best themed DVC kiosks!

That is where our DVC journey started. We had a look around the kiosk to get out of the wind after we got drenched on Kali River Rapids. Little did we know that we would be DVC members by the end of that trip.

I really enjoyed all the photos. The restaurant looks spectacular. That is ridiculous that they were worried about the chocolate melting in the middle of winter.

I too love AK, as you know. The beautiful pictures just don't seem to end. I am actually in the midst of putting the itineraries together for my trip and we are waffling between Yak and Yeti or Flame Tree. I really enjoyed my Dim Sum style lunch last time as well; the food was actually pretty good. Luckily I had a table looking out over a portion of the park from the upstairs seating, and told myself it was a place worth going back to.

I was also SUUUUUPER excited to hear about the new water show coming there. I need to do some more research about that and for sure build that into our touring plan! Lovely, lovely update! :)

I love Fuddruckers! You just have to be careful about how you spell/say it.:rotfl2:
There's a wrong way to spell/say uh, Fuddruckers??? :rolleyes1

I guess I missed something there about you being captured!! But I am glad that I could provide some entertainment!
Aha - you were detaining him!! :thumbsup2 Well done, I got a really nice long response from him out of it! ;)
Hey!!! You don't want to falsely accuse me of being a liar! :headache:
Somebody had to work and I was house-sitting while new carpet was being installed. Since they were having to move everything around and with so much disruption, there wasn't much else to do but sit at the computer and catch up on the DIS........... :)

In case you know nothing about Harry Potter, Goblins are creatures in that book that play a role in the wizard banking industry. And this was where we were headed today: To go to the Gringotts Bank at Diagon Alley.
I know nothing about Harry Potter as this is something I just have never gotten interested in. I really want to make it to US soon, but it will be purely for the rides. For the most part, the theming will just be something "nice." :rolleyes2

One of the Christmas things they have there, is that they have some of the balloons from the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on display throughout the park. I loved that, especially since I had so much fun watching that parade on Thanksgiving morning for the first time ever.
That definitely looks like a cool addition. :thumbsup2

And then it was time for dessert – you might have already noticed the ice cream cone in the previous picture.

This is what I got:

DSC06327.jpg
Hey, something that looks familiar............. :rotfl:

I sometimes get the impression that this slogan is the one that Disney uses internally to determine their pricing structure:

DSC06339.jpg
Ouch! :rotfl2:

We headed straight to the bakery where I got some pictures of the desserts:

DSC06449.jpg
I love the bakery in France, but I have a hard time deciding what to get. Everything looks too artistic to eat it if I ordered it. :scratchin

Here we heard the story of the julenissen:

DSC06511.jpg
My favorite.............and it has nothing to do with Julenissen holding that wooden spoon............ :rolleyes1

Oh Katharina, I wish you had told me you wanted to try Yak & Yeti when we were there! I love that place and would have easily took the time to go enjoy it with you! :goodvibes

Mark, I talked to Michael about this and he says early February should be pretty good for crowds as well. The later it gets the more the crowds are going to built, especially for Presidents Day.

Thank you! We're thinking of scheduling a long weekend at Universal Studios once she has finished her treatment for scoliosis. We have an appointment next week to see if she will need surgery or not. Even if she does not, she will probably be in the brace for another year. So we felt like a birthday/celebration trip would be in order after that.

I'm a morning person in my own way ... like two in the morning and three in the morning!

:faint: After 4 kids, I firmly believe 2 o'clock and 3 o'clock should only happen once a day!

Poor Katharina. You should have said it wasn't that good and she didn't miss anything.;)

At least the building walls were much nicer here than at the MK!

So you have that going for you!

I really liked how nicely themed these were, here they all had Asian proverbs on them:

I think AK has grown on me just because the theme is so well done, with more detail than the other parks.

I think I had a very exotic drink. Something called a Coke.

Makes sense. In the Animal Kingdom, you walk on the wild side!:rotfl2:

So, the good news for Katharina is: I would be very happy to eat there again on a future visit with her!

I'm sure that has completely resolved the dispute.:thumbsup2

And I'd share some appetizers with her ... and we could tell stories about how funny the Americans are because they do crazy things like put mustard on a pretzel!

Not if there's beer cheese soup around!

After having had a lovely meal in Asia, we decided to go for a nice stroll through the gardens of Anandapur where we came across some tigers:

And they were awake?! I hope you bought lottery tickets that day.

I really love those trails in Africa and Asia as they let you just explore on your own speed. And I find something new every time.

Agreed. ::yes::

Well, hello there.

Let's just say that since I have numerous CM friends that I may know where you can just pick up a Tell-A-Cast, which is the little info guide that every CM carries, and is updated weekly.

Man, Michael has lots of friends in very high places.

We also picked up some gifts for Michael’s parents in the Germany pavilion together. This was great fun and I got a nice bottle of German wine for them.

Good thinking! Bribe them with gifts and alcohol!:rotfl:

One day (think it was March) he just opened the bottle and I think he drank the entire thing himself (no, not in one sitting or even one week). I know I never managed to get a taste.

:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl: I guess he liked it, then!

You have really been plugging away at this TR! Are you trying to wrap it up before your next trip starts?

The day at AK looked great! I've always enjoyed Yak and Yeti, but Fran not so much. Too bad you had to schlep all that stuff around with you all day. That's one good thing about the scooters, we can pack stuff into the bags on the back and we have locks on them.

The night at Epcot sounded equally as nice, even if Michael never got the answers he wanted to what was open and what was not. I hope your last day goes smoothly!

Aha - you were detaining him!! :thumbsup2 Well done, I got a really nice long response from him out of it! ;)

Yes actually while I had to work that day he was supervising the carpet installers I had in my house. :)

To go to the Gringotts Bank at Diagon Alley.

YES, that sounds amazing. I think a trip over there is becoming something that will be done sooner than later.

We discussed getting a snack somewhere, but then thought we could get an early lunch instead, so we headed to the Leaky Cauldron, the restaurant in Diagon Alley. They have an interesting set up where there is one queue line in one room and then you get to the room with the cash registers and they call you up to one register at a time when it is free.

That makes way more sense to do it that way.

muggle London to wizard London to make our way over to Gringott’s:

A bit out of order but I wanted to be sure not to forget to mention how amazing it all looks.

I haven't had that type of lasting vertigo since maybe my first or second cruise. I'm still not entirely sure why it happened. But when you get off a ship Saturday morning and the ground is still moving Wednesday afternoon, it just isn't fun!

OOOH that just makes me dizzy thinking about it.

They have a poster in there which shows all the characters that ever played a role in the Simpsons:

That is cool.

There even is a legend to it to explain who is who.

That is even cooler- That would be fun to look at.

Once we had enough of the water, we found out that the changing rooms there were still open and even heated, so we got out of the wet stuff before making our way back to our room.

Hmmmm, Good call and I assume you had some clothes to get into too. :rolleyes1:ssst:

Love the holiday Pictures of DHS and EPCOT. You saw my 2 favorite Storytellers.

Turf Club sounds good and I agree with resort restaurants. Some of my favorites are in the resorts.

I am glad you had a nearly perfect day at US/IoA. I have been there when it starts to get cold and man it does that quick sometimes.

Need to read that last update still - Just time for bed for me, actually past time. :rolleyes1

I can't wait for you to get the chance to stay at Aulani!

That's nice of you to say!! I can't wait to get there either!

That really is weird. Not sure what Christmas has to do with a fish-dog.

Must be some strange not well-know Boardwalk tradition. But that is the lobby with the scary child-chairs. So, I guess it is fitting.

We don't see them outside in my hometown either, but they're everywhere indoors.

They are popular indoors here as well.

Looks great! I can hardly wait to see it for myself!

I think you picked a really great time of year for a parents only trip!

:rotfl2::rotfl2: From now on, I will refer to them as beer mug mugs.

Ahem... That was a typo. Only one mug. But if you like it I am not going to stop you!!!

Well...that's one way to spend your money, I guess. I'd buy DVC points at Aulani!

So many things I would rather buy than a shiny pimpled Genie...

Actually, most of our advent calendars end on the 24th as well. Since advent is supposed to be the countdown to Christmas, it doesn't usually include the actual day.

Smart! Here the 24th is always the biggest door. If you have one with pictures (and not chocolate) there usually would be a nativity scene behind door 24.

Lovely shot!

Thanks!

Cool. That's the first time I've seen these.

I was surprised how many there were and they were definitely far more "home grown" than the posh ones around the resort otherwise. I really enjoyed looking out for them.

You don't hear much about it, but I remember my parents really liking their meal here.

I think @eandesmom ate there recently, too and enjoyed it as well.

Fat Tire is a good choice!

Good to know! I liked it.

That looks really good.

Food was really good there!

Yeah, I'm sure the water is warm...but at some point, you have to get out!

If you are fast enough it can work if the water was really warm to heat you up. But otherwise it is quite horrible!

I think it was not too bad for Katharina!

All caught up again, Magdalene!
Took me some time to get through the UO/IOA part as I have not read ONE of the Harry Potter books, nor have I watched the movies. So it took a while to take it all in. ;)

I think with the two parts now, there is so much to see and it actually is a great introduction into the world of Harry Potter for those who don't know it. A lot of the things are really interesting on there own.

Your tour of Epcot sounds lovely, even though you are brave to listen to the German traditions part. (sorry, but we did the Christmas tour, whatever it is called when we went to WDW for Christmas and the guide started to tell us that ALL Germans hide a pickle in their tree and I had to bite my lip to not say anything.

I always want to know how much nonsense there is being told about my country. And I think Epcot is actually doing in general a pretty good job at not distorting facts too much. I was amazed after having been to Norway now, how much the Norwegian pavilion actually captures the country (or maybe I should ratter use past tense on that). Even the crazy stuff about the oil digging in the movie makes sense now!

Dinner at the Turf Club looked really nice, nothing was on the menu when we dined there a few years ago, but we found the food to be pretty nice and it was easy to get a table making an ADR only an hour earlier.

It is really a nice place and as you said, not too overly busy. I think resorts need to offer restaurants for their guests that are available on a short notice. And SSR definitely delivers in that regard.

It seems to have become a nice tradition to end a successful day at Universal with a good meal amongst friends!

:thumbsup2

And I really want to go back there. And I stopped my nth rereading of the Harry Potter Books after The Half-Blood Prince. I guess something to do on vacation? Do you have it in your library?

Yes, all the books are available!

I'm of course intrigued by your update. I'm afraid to make guesses, as this might reveal that I've forgotten what you already did on that vacation… But it could be mini golf or Kennedy Space Center...

Well, you know it now! But the general direction was right. Interesting to hear which experiences you would be sad if I did them without you! I guess we need to plan a visit to KSC when we go on that cruise on the Fantasy (at some still to be determined future date!).

I've always wanted to hear the storytellers in all the countries in EPCOT. Thanks so much for all the lovely pictures. One day I'll get there in December.
ETA- Oh and wonderful updates. You really lucked out with the lines at Universal.

Thanks! I am glad that you are enjoying it! And I hope that you will get to see the Holiday season in person one day!

Just loved your update on Universal, you have helped immensely with many questions I had about the new Harry Potter part. I can tell you that I LOVED Forbidden Journey, to me it was cross between Dinasaur and Soarin" Kyle and I were the only ones who loved it , the girls and Judy did NOT!!! I haven't done Spiderman , it was closed for renovation the first time I went and broke down as we were in the car the second time !! Now I do NOT like Rollercoasters , do you and Michael think I would be okay with Diagon Alley???

Ok - I think you would be ok with Gringotts (that's the name of the ride in Diagon Alley). It is more scary from the scenes you see than from the coaster action. As a lot of other rides at Universal it is very screen based, so your car is moving from screen to screen. In that it is similar to Forbidden Journey. The coaster takes you from scene to scene, but it is not crazy like Expedition Everest. And since it is in the dark a lot, you don't really notice where your car is going anyway. If you survived the Simpsons, I think you would be fine on this ride. See it as a dark ride with more exciting motion.

It will be interesting to hear what you think of the new London/Diagon Alley part!

also have not done the Transformers but am thinking it may be like Star Tours in DHS only more intense ??? I can handle the Simpson Ride but the rollercoaster part is very iffy for me , so how would I handle Spiderman??? I am hoping for some good advice her !!!!

If you are ok with Star Tours, Dinosaur and Simpsons, I would say give Spiderman a try. You should be fine on it. The motion is similar to Dinosaur I would say, but it turns a bit more. Transformers is more or less the same as Spiderman, but a bit wilder.

Hope this helps!

All caught up with Epcot and DHA+S. That Salad at Turf Club does look great!! Question why is your sister "BUCKY"!!???

The salad was really wonderful and quite a deal for Disney! Not pricey at all!

And as to your question about Katharina: Michael just loves giving people nicknames. I think he has about four different names for me. :goodvibes

That is a drawback. For us it is only marginally closer. We are planning to go back in 2018 and I think this is going to have to be a 4 week trip. We are intending to stop in New York in one direction and Los Angeles the other, spend some time at Aulani and do a cruise around the islands.

Sounds like a great plan! Michael has done the Norwegian cruise around Hawaii and thought it was great. For me it would be too little time in each place, but he thinks it was one of his best vacations ever.

That is where our DVC journey started. We had a look around the kiosk to get out of the wind after we got drenched on Kali River Rapids. Little did we know that we would be DVC members by the end of that trip.

:goodvibes So, if your DVC were your baby, you could name her "Asia". :rotfl:

My DVC purchase has no such fond memories. It was bought resale...

I really enjoyed all the photos. The restaurant looks spectacular. That is ridiculous that they were worried about the chocolate melting in the middle of winter.

The Yak & Yeti is truly amazing!
