Paying for the wedding

Ok we were just engaged back on our may trip. We are planning Oct of 2017 for our wedding. We know we can't book anything for a while out. But as we get ready to save our case to pay for it. We were wondering if any one has used a disney vacation account to pay for there wedding.

I think the money would be put to better use in a traditional savings account. Why let interest accrue in Disney's account instead of your own?

Unless you have huge sums of money or cds you don't get squat for intrest around here maybe half a percent. Where with disney you get the extra gift card.

Beside I didn't ask if a regular savings would be a better idea. If I thought that that is what I would do

I don't know for sure, but I don't think you can use Disney Vacation Account to pay for a wedding. It works sort of like a gift card, and you can't use Disney gift cards to pay for your wedding. So my guess would be no, but I'm not positive.

A popular method of payment I've heard is to use the Disney Visa, because of double rewards points on Disney things. If you (gradually) put the wedding on a card you'll have quite a number of rewards dollars to spend on a Disney honeymoon, provided you're considering a Disney honeymoon and in a position to use a credit card in that way.

Capital One360 Savings accounts have a decent interest rate. They used to be ING Direct but Capital One took them over.

Not doing anything with credit cards we have gotten rid of them to buy a house
plus I have dvc

not sure if things have changed since January this year

but we paid for our Disney Wedding (every cent) using Disney Gift Cards. We did this back when target still allowed stacking of red card, pharmacy, staff, and other coupons. So we saved A TON of money!!
(sadly after we bought all of our Disney Gift Cards that following week Target removed the ability to stack all the discounts)
we also did 7 night cruise on the Fantasy (everything onboard) and a 28 day Disneyworld Honeymoon - everything paid (expect WDW resort hotel used DVC points) with Disney Gift Cards. That's down to every Mikey Ice Cream bar, balloon, everything.

Have been wanting to write a blog post about this... but since nobody can "duplicate" what we did (since Target does not allow discount stacking) there is not much point
and I'm sure others would view it as bragging (which is not what we want to do)

Buying and using the Gift Cards allowed us to do things and have a longer trip than we every would have done if paying 100% out of pocket.

really wish others could duplicate what we did
as our Disney Wedding was pretty much FREE (thanks to the savings of using the gift cards) You spend X amount on the Gift Cards out of pocket....but you end up with more money (more gift cards) than you spent
some of you will start doing the math....don't think we should post what we spent...but it was certainly allot of money...but amazing vaule for money.
even more if you consider that the "average" wedding (what's that?) in Australia is over $65,000

even if Target still allowed stacking to duplicate our major haul you will need a target employee discount and the black Friday coupon along with your red card and pharmacy coupon
but think the Black Friday coupon that was given out a few years back- was not suppose to stack with everything...and think the Target mangers who "overridden" the system to allow it...got in trouble.

In addition, you had to buy all your gift cards all at once (which might not be doable for allot of people)
It took a couple hours to buy all the cards. As each check out register has a limit to the amount of barcodes and money it can scan at one time. Thus freezing their system and have to wait or use another register.

The downside with using Gift Cards is you MUST keep each card used. As if any money is refunded to you...Disney will apply it back to the original form of payment (which is your gift card)
keep track of all the gift cards is also another "hassle" to some...but not for us. The money saved out weight any issues using them.
thanks to a custom spreadsheet and Disney's Gift Card app..it was allot easier than we thought.

though we simply would charge everything to the room (where we used gift cards to give us "credit")
and every day we would go down to the desk to add more cards and make sure we always had money (so our credit card was never charged)

Every Disney Castmember who we dealt with was AMAZING!
never once did they complain or make any nasty remarks having to process so many gift cards.
They would however gather all of their fellow cast members to show them how many gift cards we were using. Everyone said they were use to it...but never saw it on the scale we did it on

So just signed my contract with Disney and it specifically said you can't pay for your wedding with gift cards.

I don't understand the no gift card rule. What if all your relatives want to pitch in with gift cards?

Well after the huge fit her mom threw the other weekend when we showed our plans if we get married we may not be having a disney wedding. Funny how when we first mentioned a disney wedding her mom was supportive and didn't say anything about another style wedding and now she is very unhappy about a destination wedding

What's this?!?!?!?!?! Double reward points on Disney things?!?!?!?! I was going to pay for the wedding with my Disney Visa anyway to get the $80 some odd reward dollars but if we get double points then hot dang, I may be adding another fancy schmancy ADR.
