Side items instead of dessert

I tried swapping the dessert for a side at Casey's Corner last night with no success. Cast member seemed quite confused when I said I thought it was a new thing we were able to do.

Unfortunately, I am becoming more and more convinced that Disney changed the rules already and updated the sales team, so they can sell people on the plan, but failed to adequately inform and train the CMs who actually work at QS locations. I wonder how things would have gone if you went ahead and ordered a side instead of dessert, paid the difference, and then brought the receipt to a concierge to inquire about the policy discrepancy. Of course, I doubt anyone really wants to be the test case for that and end up without a free dessert plus paying OOP for a snack!

Since the only supporting documentation you'd have is the 2016 brochure, I don't think you'd win that argument.

I'm going at the end of August and I was really hoping for some better news about the new substitution rules. I don't drink pop so it would be amazing to sub out the drink for more food and just drink the free water.

Do you guys recommend that we don't preorder at BoG if we want a chance of doing this? (Imagine subbing out the drink for some French Onion Soup mmmmmmm)

Not exactly in my case, as I have an e-mail from the sales and service team stating that the 2016 changes have been in effect since May and I will be able to substitute items on my trip. Personally, I don't want to have that argument in the first place and I can live with the rules being whatever they are (I would however appreciate certainty on what those rules are at this moment), but my case would be pretty good.

that reminds me ... when we ate at Columbia Harbor House, I casually mentioned that I didn't want the dessert and wished I could get something else .. more just sort of lamenting than requesting, if that makes sense. The CM offered me the option of getting bottled waters, which I had sort of forgotten about. we were hot and hungry, bordering on hangry. I wasn't worried about trying to swap anything at that point. LOL

at BoG, I asked specifically if I could get soup instead of cupcakes.

we also were able to trade 3 snacks for a CS meal at Everything Pop! ... but we were able to do that before the announcement, like 2 years ago.

Did they let you swap the dessert for soup when you asked at BOG?
yes. I swapped two desserts for French Onion Soup. We ended up getting 2 of the roast beef sandwiches w/fries, with soup on the side. My 2 children and I shared all that and had plenty. DH chose something different, and got the cupcake for dessert ... it was harder to decide what cupcake we wanted than it was for the CM to make the swap ;)

Did you pre order, or just go into the restaurant and order. I am wondering how it even works to pay for a quick service meal with a dining plan here. Couldn't we just order a soup, entree and drink and it would work if we preordered?

For what it's worth, I was assured by a CM that I would be able to preorder at BOG with soup substitutions without issue so long as I make sure to specify when paying that I am using a QS credit only and swapped out items. I'll still feel better if someone reports doing this successfully before I do, but I'm planning on doing this at the end of September.

as I stated earlier in this thread, I did not preorder.

our DDP lunch @ BOG was as follows:

{1} Carved Turkey Sandwich, strawberry cupcake, fountain soda
{2} roast beef sandwiches, french onion soups (dessert swap), fountain sodas

we used 3 QSDP credits.

Hi Madge!!!! :) Did you order at a kiosk with a Cast member, or can you do it by yourself at a kiosk ? Thanks so much!

We have swapped desserts for sides several times at POP food court and traded leftover CS credits for snacks. And this has been over the past few years. I was told no last year by a cm at POP but then I just went thru the line with another cm that I knew had been working there for quite a while and she said yes. So maybe the food courts at the resorts are more familiar with the process??

All the stories I have seen about the changes said they were to take effect May of 2015.

I am bringing my email from Disney that says the new policies are in effect for both dessert and beverage swapping for a snack I leave in 21 days and will let you all know if I have any success.

Thank you, kiramay! I printed out page 3, and will have it in my bag at the parks.
DD and I would much rather share an entree sometimes, and just get a snack credit item instead of dessert (not always but sometimes).
