I read an interesting conspiracy theory today, and I'm wondering who remembers what. So, you know that lovable family of bears? Mother, Father, Sister, and Brother? What was their last name? BerenstEin, or BerenstAin?

I originally thought it was the other way, but after I had my kids I found out I was WRONG! Oh well! LOL If they had left the show on for longer in the 80s I might have remembered!

I always remember it as Berenstein bears.. I had no idea it was berenstain until I saw it on buzzfeed. Weird.

The theory is that this is proof of either some sort of "time glitch" or that we slipped into an alternate dimension sometime in the last 10-ish years. Crazy stuff, but a fun read. Basically, MOST people remember it being with an E. Not just remember, but swear to it. But now if you google it or find one of the books at a store, it's an A.

I have just bought a lot of them for DGD, but I would have thought the other spelling

I don't care how they spell it. I hate those bears. I always wanted to slap one or more bears (both kids and parents) at least once per book. I soon realized I could do without those holier than thou bears.

And yes, I always knew it was an 'a'.

I don't like those bears either. And that song always gets stuck in my head. :scared:

They annoy me too. Don't even get me started on the messy room. Or the gimmies. Also what is up with the amount of writing on each page? And the number of pages? In kindergarten and first grade every single night he had to read a book with an adult alternating pages every night. I tried to steer him towards little critter, curious george, or clifford...anything but the bears. Life was so much simpler when my kid couldn't read and I could make up a story to match the pictures.

Oh nooooo! I loved them!!

When I was 3 I had memorized the entirety of The Spooky Old Tree. I would recite it while turning the pages of the book and people actually thought I could read at 3. Then my mom had to go and clue them in that no I had in fact memorized it. Still a pretty good feat for a 3 year old.

I loved that book! I had the book on tape. Listened to it all the time. "Yes, they dare!" However, the page with the suits of armor where one of them drops the axe caused a recurring nightmare for many years. I don't have that dream much anymore but I did have one a few months back. Crazy how things like that stick with us.

I remember the "E" also but then again it was like 25 years ago.

This made me laugh so hard. My DS did the same thing with Riki Tiki Tavi at like 3, I thought he was a genius :rotfl2::rotfl2: Yeah not so much :confused3

I LOVE the Berenstain bears! I have a lot of the books from the 80's and they are all spelled Berenstain, though I always pronounce it Berensteen. I don't know, my parents were divorced and while I wasn't abused or neglected, I still had a very strong sense of having a broken family. I used to love reading about this perfect family and their two loving parents and their life lessons. It was one of the very few things from childhood that I saved to give to my kids and we read them together almost daily.
