What will be announced at D23

I remember around one or two months ago rumors started pouring out that Disney would announce a DHS expansion at D23. People were saying that Disney was going to announce huge plans at the event. Now rumors are saying that they're only going to announce the Pixar offerings. This is ridiculous. If Disney doesn't announce plans for Star Wars land this August many people will be disappointed. Even if it has to do with the new movies they could say that a Star Wars land is going in this area, they don't have to get into specifics. I'm just sick, like a lot of people hearing that things are going to be announced and are most of the time not announced. Even Bob Iger said last that ambitious star wars plans would be announced earlier this year, what happens with that? Please share your opinion. I'm sure some heated arguments will happen, remember let's keep it family friendly and let's not start war because some people defend disney too much, I'm sorry Disney doesn't have an exscuse if they don't announce the plans at D23 this year.

Details on avatarland for sure

As for DHS we don't know exactly what or if they will announce anything. It's very likely it will get be a generic rebranding announcement.

I wouldn't get too hyped about DHS's announcements just yet. It's still 3-6 years away, so there's at least 1 or 2 conventions before it fully opens. I think they'll talk about Shanghai, Avatar and maybe officially announce Star Wars expansions for both coasts along with some artwork.

I actually think we will see a Pixar announcement and not a Star Wars one for DHS since that stuff would be opening sooner than Star Wars.

Yeah, I thought so, but I'm assuming they'll be announcing Star Wars for DL, so it would make sense to announce both SW lands together. Of course, they could announce the full DHS expansion altogether and give some vague details on both SW and Pixar.

I think you'll see both, but the details of the Star Wars stuff might be rather thin. I think what is ACTUALLY going to be announced is going to be a very tightly kept secret.

It's encouraging that they haven't yet come out and said they'll be nothing. Two years ago they announced ahead of time not to expect anything. Not this year (so far.)

As the same poster who created the "Is Disney World Screwed?" thread, we need not guess where your views lean. ;)

With that said, we know these projects are in motion. Even if they're not announced, they're moving in the right direction. If a project will take 3-4 years to build, does it matter if they announce it in two weeks, two months, or two years? Nope, because eventually it will open at the same pace it would've either way. Don't get hung up on specific announcements because they're not really what's important. They're good barometers on what's happening on the inside, and I adore having maps and renderings but in the grand scheme of things that all doesn't matter. Look at Universal, which didn't announce Volcano Bay and Kong until they were well underway. Does that really matter? Nope.

With all that said, speculation is pretty fun! If themeparkinsider is to be believed, we may learn more than less.

Id say we see an announcement but it will be vague on details.

Also insiders have said the Bobs are not happy about the budget into leaks.

Remember, there is more going on than just the current state of the parks and Disney management's opinions about the parks. There are very serious economic rumblings happening in Asia, Europe and all of the Americas right now, which will certainly have an effect (small or large I don't know which) on both Disney's ability to borrow money to finance theme park expansion and on their projected revenues and earnings i.e. on their customers' ability to pay for vacations. Some people think that things are even more precarious and fragile than in the summer of 2008. I would have to say that subjectively, I don't think that there was even a fraction of the visible economic and political strife happening in 2008 that I'm seeing this summer.

Disney may have already totally locked up the financing and they may be 100% confident in the continued growth of resort revenues and profits. In which case there will be a quite solid set of new attractions announced and the construction will start shortly (maybe this autumn). Like other people, I don't see how you could possibly close that many attractions in DHS and not have a pretty solid plan in place to replace them, pretty quickly. That's the best-case scenario and it's what I hope to see.

The downside is the possibility of a continued period of relative stagnation in the parks because, despite all expectations the contrary, it turns out that you can't print money out of nothing and lend it to people at 0.01% interest forever ... while salaries stagnate, savings erode, and prices of rent, food, tuition, health care and (you got it) vacations keep going up on a steep curve.

I know that Disney and Disney-related forums are a kind of recreational fantasy ... it's why I spend time here too .. but let's keep it real.

I agree we will hear an update on AKs and MKs improvements. In regards to HS I think they will at least announce the new name of the park. I think they will tease the HS studios expansion and say construction is starting early 2016. They could be brave an show off the whole idea for HS but I feel they might just bring over the Shanghai Display and let the fans marvel at that instead.

I agree with this it would be very easy to scrim off the end of NY streets and start tearing down LMA (If Radiator Springs is coming) and the rest of the rumored Pixar area is behind buildings. Most Pixar construction can easily be completed without any disruption to the park. Star Wars on the other hand is going to cause big problems.

Disney has announced they will have the Shanghai model and an avatar model.

Look at the most recent results, and you'll find that Shanghai spending, DAK spending, and Disney Springs Spending is about to drop off in a dramatic fashion. Those trends of continued spending to improve parks and resorts globally coming to an end creates a noticeable opportunity to redirect funds. At a meager 500 million a year, this is well within the capacity of a WDC who reported spending of 3 Billion+ on CapEx last year, especially as about half of that is about to drop off come next year.

Additionally banks like safe bets, if WDC needs to raise capital to fund their domestic moves (which seems reasonable based on their large dividends) they're about as great a bet as can be. This is the same company that funded Cars Land, DCA's big makeover, Two Cruise Ships, Aulani, a massive expansion to HKDL, and MyMagic+ all at the same time coming out of the biggest recession since the 1930s. I have worries about these projects, but WDC not being able to raise capital is not one of them. Additionally, our banking system is considerably stronger then it was before the crash. Let's not live life like there's also a crash coming tomorrow or else a whole boat of opportunities will be missed. Optimism here my friends!

That's funny... We will likely be seeing DHS Makeover, HKDL expansion, two more cruise ships (rumored by good sources), Disneyland (marvel/Star Wars), and whatever the money goes for at Epcot and MK.

Good point. Let's just say that formula they followed in the late 2000s and early 2010s have led them on one of their biggest growth phases ever. It worked beautifully. Setting the stage for this next phase are massive expansions in DHS, total infrastructure enhancements all across the WDW, Magic Kingdom enhancements, Epcot enhancements, Frontierland expansions potentially, Parc Disneyland refurbishments, Walt Disney Studios upgrades, Hong Kong Disneyland new Park, Hong Kong Disneyland shopping district, Disneyland Star Wars, Marvel at Disney California Adventure, all new Parking garage, those two new cruise ships, new Disney Vacation club offerings, likely expansions at Shanghai Disneyland, Avatarland, and their partners upgrading Tokyo Disney Sea and Disneyland.

That's a lot of stuff coming through the pipeline. That's massive. Nearly Disney Decade level.

Since they are incorporating the movies into the new Star Wars area, I can't imagine them revealing much of anything before the movie's release this December, unfortunately. We are waiting on pins and needles, though!
