cheaper souvenirs and other questions

We are going to Disney for our first trip in a couple of weeks. I have heard that we should buy our souvenirs at DTD and not in the parks, it is much cheaper. Is this true? We are pretty much just going to be buying t-shirts and my wife wants Christmas a ornament. Also I am a huge fan of the 80's cartoons like Ducktales, Talespins, and Darkwing duck. Launchpad McQuack being my all time favorite Disney character. How likely am I to find merchandise for these cartoons?

Anywhere in Disney is pretty much going to be expensive. I am a fan of buying things from the Disney discount online stores and amazon and whatnot. Downtown disney is typically the same if you ask me. I have seen talespins things online but they're kinda out dated

I agree, Downtown Disney will not be any cheaper.
If you have a car, there is an official Disney Parks outlet (I think it's called Character Warehouse?) at a nearby outlet mall.
Tee shirts will be cheaper there, but not sure the selection; it's usually from the past season.
For the cartoons you mention, I would suggest looking online first really. Don't recall seeing any of those at the parks.
If no car, definitely go to Downtown Disney to shop at least for fun! There is a huge store - you can get lost in all the fun stuff!

No diff in price between the parks and DTD but there is sometimes a difference in merch. General rule of thumb, if you find something you really want, get it cause it may not be in the next location you go to. Besides Character Warehouse, there are 2 local Wal-mart stores that sell a TON of Disney merch. T-shirts are normally about 12 bucks compared to 30. They have a banging selection too.

thanks for the Wally world tip. I will definately stop there. anything to stretch the budget. I thought my chances of finding Darkwing duck merch were slim. You would think there would be a resurgence because the children of the 80's are now taking their kids.​

We love doing our souvenir shopping at Walmart. Don't know that we actually save money, more like we get a lot more stuff for the same amount of money! Great selection on t-shirts and every kind of trinket.
