Yep...another stroller question. To double stroller or not to double stroller...

I have a very active (soon to be 4 year old boy) and an 18 mo girl who will be about 21 months by the time we get to the happiest place on earth. My son is high energy so we've been discussing stroller needs only for our daughter. In which case, we'd just bring our older single stroller from home....

here's where I'm having trouble...

Our son is high energy, but I'm wondering what's going to happen on day 2 or day 3 of our trip, after we've been walking a lot, not sleeping at home, etc.... I'm wondering if I should rent a double stroller...

anyone out there who's been in a similar situation want to offer any ideas?

We went last year when our DS was just under 4 and our DD was around 21 months. We brought two single strollers. Even if your DS is high energy, he will get worn down by all the walking (and excitement) and you'll be happy you had either the double stroller or two singles. I'd recommend the two singles, especially if your 21 month old will nap in the stroller. That way someone can walk the napping child and check out some sights, while the other can take your DS on some rides or shows. Plus you'll find most people on the DisBoards are not fans of the double stroller (or strollers at all. Ha!).

We debated the same for our upcoming trip. I decided on renting a double, just so that we have a place for the older one to be, like if you go somewhere that doesn't have enough seating for lunch, somewhere to have a 'time out' if there is silliness (not that THAT would ever happen), and somewhere for him to sit while waiting for the bus, etc. We decided on a double, rather than 2 singles, because then only ONE adult has to manage the stroller on the bus, while the other can have the younger kid and preschooler.

I would bring the double. I rather have a seat avail for him just in case. Even two years ago, DD was 7 and utilized it and my youngest was 3. Luckily, she was not too heavy. IMO, having a double also helps the little one want to stay in the stroller longer.

I have twins and have done Disney with both a double stroller and two singles. I definitely recommend the double unless you have other adults helping you! (And they ACTUALLY will help you, we took two singles because we went with the in-laws and thought we had some extra hands. They all deserted us when they realized we couldn't tour as quickly with toddlers!) It was terrible trying to get on and off the buses at night with two strollers, bags, and three sleeping kids, much easier when we had the double even though the kids were smaller at the time. It was lightweight and folded up to be not much larger then a single stroller and had a shoulder strap, so DH could grab the stroller and oldest DD while I got the twins and the bag.

This is the double we used and it was great for the buses.

I definitely say either do two singles or a double. I'd personally choose to go with the double, despite the fact that it's pretty difficult to push through big crowds. Even if your son doesn't want to ride in the stroller at times, it's a great place to put a backpack or some snacks.

But I would definitely think that he would end up tired by the second or third day. As much as he may like walking, he might enjoy the break, as well. Plus, it's a good spot to try and get him to take a nap! :thumbsup2
