Vegetarians favorite meals?

We are hitting the parks soon, and we'd love some first-hand experience from Vegetarians/vegans in UNI. Last time we went, we ate a lot of dairy, and eggs.
What are your must haves? Special meals? Not necessarily vegan, but I am trying to stop eating cheese, so any good vegetarian meals in the park other than another pizza would be great!
Give me any of your suggestions! Even if it's just a decent veggie burger ;) Thanks!

Veggie options I like not necessarily vegan.

City walk-
Bubba Gumps veggie burger
Moe's build your own bowl and chips
Sandwich shop- salads, grilled cheese was ok
Starbucks- fruit cups ( I use my gift cards there)

IOA-
Thunder falls- yellow rice and black beans
3 broomsticks- roast potatoes, butter beer, green salad and potato soup is ok

US-
Diagon Alley- butter beer and ice cream
Beverly Hills- health sandwich

I usually pack some snacks with me too.

Richter veggie burger.

3 broomsticks potato leek soup with roasted potatoes as mentioned above. :)

Skip leaky cauldron. Ploughmans without the scotch eggs is just so expensive for what you get. Good but expensive. And, of course, doesn't avoid cheese lol.

Curious how your trip went. I am also a vegetarian and looking through the menus I am not seeing much in the way of food options.

Have you looked at damo's thread above in the stickies?

On the first page she has a list of vegetarian choics available from Citywalk, park and hotel options.

Ok, I think I see that one. Yes, that's one of the reasons I asked..most of the things on the list seems to be just cheese..mac and cheese and pizzas, just owndering if any dairy allergic/lactose intolerant vegetarians founf anything to eat other than cheese. It is looking like I can have some pad thai at mytho's, and we'll have to pack a lot of food! (Husband is allergic to peanuts, and lactose intolerant, and a vegetarian.). Oh well, we'll just have to bring snacks!

you can contact universal and discuss your diet with the chef in charge for places/foods that can work with your dietary restrictions.

i know i copied the info for contact for them few months back on the darkside main forum.
if you do a search in this forum, i'm sure it will come up.
hth.

I absolutely loved the pad thai at Mythos! They made it vegetarian! Their flatbread (minus the bacon, I think it was) was also delicious, but it had cheese. We loved Mythos so much, that we ate there twice..

I spent some time looking at menus online and scoping out possible vegetarian stuff for our next trip. There were plenty of options in CityWalk, not quite as many in the parks.. especially if you are doing quick service. I believe there are some options in the Simpson's area. If you are wanting to experience Harry Potter for a meal, I would suggest breakfast there as there are more vegetarian options. Someone mentioned the Ploughman's platter.. which I plan to try without the scotch egg next time.. but it is heavy on cheese.

Fwiw that description was different than the later description of the diet.

I'm trying to move it up inside this post but I can't format it right.

But you saw that people replies here, yes?

What about in this thread?

This is a different description than the first. :)

More options at breakfast? Hmm. Well I like the roasted potatoes, the little salad, and the potato leek soup (yes vegetarian and should be dairy free since that's typical for that soup, but I don't KNOW that they make it without dairy) enough, and breakfast switches to lunch early enough, that we are happy with lunch at 3 Broomsticks.

I mentioned the ploughmans. Negatively. So expensive for what you get.

Any idea whether it's possible to get the ploughman's with some other type of egg besides the scotch egg? It looks like it would go well with a sliced hard boiled egg.

That's the only egg they sell. You could just get the scotch egg and take off the coating but that kind of defeats the purpose of being a vegetarian.

Well, for breakfast at the Leaky Cauldron you could get the Pancake or the American breakfast without the sausage and bacon (perhaps they would sub fresh fruit??). There is also the Oatmeal Flan option that is vegetarian and an Egg, Mushroom, and Leek Pastry that is vegetarian. At Three Broomsticks there is also the Pancake and American breakfast options, but also a Porridge Breakfast and Continental Breakfast that are both vegetarian.

So, yes.. more vegetarian options at breakfast time than for lunch.

I don't think I saw Doc Sugrue's Desert Kebab House mentioned? Great Veggie Kebobs and hummus and fruit cups. Next to the talking fountain in Islands of Adventure. The Veggie burger at Krusty Burger was great, comes with guacamole!

I'd noticed that. I take it you've verified it's made with vegetable shortening and not lard? Not that I'm a big fan of pastries, anyway. If I'm going to consume fat, my preference is for ice cream.

I had found this review online that claims it is not only vegetarian but also very tasty..
http://touristmeetstraveler.com/2014/universal-orlandos-food-fare-beyond-compare/

To be fair, the reviewer eats the scotch egg which is NOT vegetarian at all.. and claims the Ploughman's platter to be a viable veggie option. So take it with a grain of salt. I *think* that ingredients listings and nutritional information is available upon request.. so you can always just ask when you get there.

Thanks for that link. But the bit about the scotch egg reminds me of a line in The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, where one of the characters who's pesco-vegetarian takes some of the sliced ham and calls it "salmon".
