Vent: Someone smashed my driver's side mirror

And it's costing me about $125 out of pocket to fix. :headache:

Plus I spent probably two or three hours over two days at shops, on the phone with the insurance company, meeting with the adjuster, and back and forth with several phone calls to figure out how best to fix it.

Not really how I wanted to spend my week.

Plus, I it's a safety issue driving because I can't see out the mirror as it's all smashed.

So to whoever broke it, I'd like to say: this can't be good for you. I hope it was worth it.

That is all.

(Ah, that feels better!)

As the saying goes, this is why we can't have nice things. People don't aren't careful or don't care about being careful with other people's items. I see it all the time.

Ug, I feel for you! We had our brand new van for about two weeks, when the whole driver's side mirror was ripped off (and then run over and smashed) while parked on the street.

I'm assuming we were sideswiped accidentally, but if they had at least stopped and put it on top of our hood (before it was run over and smashed to bits), we may have been able to salvage the mirror. Instead, we had to buy a new one. Not worth it to turn in to our insurance because we have a high deductible, but DH was able to install the new mirror and save the cost of labor. Still cost us over $100 for someone else's carelessness though. :-(

That sucks! Like the PP, though, I would not have bothered with insurance for that small a claim. No sense adding additional hours of my time to the problem. :-) Plus, my deductible is high. The only glass covered without deductible on my car (and I believe this is state law here) is the windshield.

DH16's car got hit by a baseball during one of his baseball games (of all the cars in the lot of course it hit his). It smashed the glass. We went on Amazon and had a new glass piece shipped Next Day (have Amazon Prime) and it cost about $15. Easy fix.

I felt the same way, but somehow an informational phone call turned into a claim. Because it's a heated mirror it's hard to find another one on an older car, especially a discontinued model, and the shops recommended I call to see if it could be covered under the glass provision, which it was not. Auto body shop wasn't even sure if it would require a full mirror holder vs just the mirror itself. Mirror "bled" a yellow liquid, which I guess is how the heated mirrors work (I always thought warm air alone via vents did the trick) but also when you set it, it drops down over a few minutes, so it's not necessarily an easy fix. If I get the whole device replaced it's more like $290, but that also falls under the deductible. So it's not as simple as it seems. The adjuster that they sent to the house was acutally really good, and found me a mirror for less than I had found on my own, at least.

At first I thought it was hit by a car, too. My car was parked on a main street so the mirror was next to a busy road. But it looks to us now that someone probably either punched it or hit it with a bottle or something, as there is one circular spot that took the main hit. It didn't come off the car, but it was pushed backwards. Weird.

Yes, lol. I've had a windshield replaced from a foul ball and my previous car (now my kids') had small baseball dings all over it. I didn't really mind, definitely my own fault for not parking further away from the fields.

Our new vehicle has the mirrors that you can press a button and they automatically fold in.
My husband ALWAYS does this!!!
That is a nice feature! I'd use it, too, if I had it. Especially now.

Just aggravated that someone would do this. And not leave a note or something. Which we have done ourselves when we scratched a car with a U Haul.

We have bad luck in our house with mirrors. When I was 16, I think I'd had my car a few months, when I backed out of my parking spot at home (which required a turn) and of course swung too wide and caught my driver's mirror. Luckily I was driving a 92 Camry, so we were able to find a mirror for about $70 and my dad installed it.

Then at 2am my dad received a call from his work that there had been a small fire with the gas water heater. So in his half-asleep daze, he drifted off the road and caught a mailbox. The box was fine....his mirror, not so much. To this day we don't have a mirror on the passenger side, because it's a Suzuki and you just can't find parts for them anymore. And NC law only requires the driver side and one additional mirror :haha:

Mom bought a new car last year, and 3 weeks into it, someone clipped it while it was parked on the street. Lucky for her, they only broke the outside frame, and the mirror itself works fine and is whole. Clearly she has better mirror karma than the rest of us!
