What to do on the first day?

We will be arriving on Saturday November 28ty probably around 3-4. We will be there for my daughter's 4th birthday. What could we do that afternoon/night? I'd like it to be something special as a surprise! Any suggestions?

I thought about a character meal at a resort. Any suggestions? We have done character meals at the parks but never a resort.

Check out the link in my previous post for options. We've enjoyed 1900 Park Fare for breakfast numerous times. We've also done Chef Mickey's, but that can be a bit of a zoo. There's also Garden Grove at the Swan, we wandered in there one night and had no idea it was a character dinner.

There are only 3 resort dinner character meals, 1900 Park Faire at the Grand Floridian, Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary and the Garden Grove at the Swan (although the character interaction is limited to Goofy and Pluto) 1900 PF has Cinderella, Prince Charming & their friends and family while Chef Mickey's has Mickey, Minnie and friends. Do you know how your 4-year old feels about costumed characters? You may want to choose the "face" characters at 1900 PF is she is afraid. I prefer Chef Mickey's.

You may also want to consider paying for an extra day so you can go into a park on that day. It's usually only about $10 per person to add an extra day to your park passes. In the parks you can visit Pooh and friends in the MK, Princesses in Epcot and the Disney Junior characters at Hollywood Studios.

Yes. I will be buying a ticket to include that day since we will be there 7 days because it's so cheap to add a day. I was just trying to think of something to do to start our trip off right.

I asked because you were looking for something out of the parks.

What are your DD's favorite characters? Go with a character meal. Does she like Anna and Elsa? Get a FP+ for the meet and greet. Make sure to get a birthday button at guest services so everyone will know that it's your princess's birthday. Some people will order a special cake. Here is a thread that covers cakes: http://www.disboards.com/threads/official-disney-cake-chatter-part-iv.3261922/

ETA: You can also order a regular birthday cake from the restaurant for less than the specialty cakes.

Out of the park dinner for a little girl I would do 1900 Park Fare; in park I would do CRT to kick the trip off. Make a note of the birthday on either reservation and get the trip started off right.

Either of these you could let her and Dad check out the lobby/resort area and make a quick dash to the room. Hang a couple of birthday banners, leave a tiara on the bed and an invitation to a Royal Dinner in honor of her birthday.

You may have a hard time booking this now, but I can't think of anything more magical than meeting Cinderella in her castle and eating dinner with the princess walking around and signing autographs! If you can't get any of the character meals booked, I think any 4-year-old would just be enamored with walking into Magic Kingdom and seeing the castle (still gets me!). Maybe you could get a FP for a princess Meet and Greet.

Good luck! She will love anything bc she is 4 and at Disney! What a great birthday!!

If you do a character meal before the park stop at the resorts front desk to get a birthday button!

We are doing the Christmas Party our 1st day.. however it looks like that isn't an option for the day your coming in.. I agree do a character dinner.

I personally would stick with counter service for arrival day, just in case she is overwhelmed or too tired! I don't like risking being a no show and charged $10 per person now.
I would book fastpasses though! You could start off at Epcot (save MK for the next day?) and then have a lot of choices for dinner around World Showcase. Turtle Talk with Crush is super cute. So is the little Nemo ride. Soarin' is also wonderful, as long as no one is SUPER afraid of heights (I am but still love it every trip).
