we are checking into AKL next week, 3 rooms, 10 people. I called yesterday to verify I requested a pack n play for one of the rooms and was told there was a $15.00 charge for the "modification" to the reservation within 14 days of check in. The CM told me this was a new policy. Has anyone ever heard of this? I asked her when the policy took effect and she couldn't tell me and I also had to explain to her what a pack n play was. I did not add he request, we will wait til we arrive and call mousekeeping. I was also told it wasn't guaranteed that I would get a pack n play.

First of all, no, never heard of this. You are not modifying the reservation; you are merely making a request.
Second, I believe there is a pack & play in all rooms there. I've never had a room without one (and I don't need them!).
If there isn't one, they'll bring you one with bedding for it.

all the dvc units have one - so guessing you won't have a problem getting one. never heard of extra charge for this type of request. now if you are changing your reservation that would definitely cost you - but you are NOT. so not sure what the CM was saying?

:sad2: That is horrible!! This is the first I've heard of it. They seem to be changing a lot of policies, and not for the better. First penalizing the guest if they booked on a discount and have to change dates, now adding requests. Ridiculous.

I could be wrong because my kids are grown, and don't always notice. But I'm sure I've seen pack n plays in the closet of our rooms. If not it would be easy to just call housekeeping when you get into your room. It's Disney, I'm sure they have tons of them.

We always start deluxe and our first at AKL but there are not always pack n play in the closet. I think I will call back today.

Since the CM didn't know what a pack and play was, maybe they were new or thought it was something else that would require an actual change to your reservation which their would be a charge for. I suspect if you called back and talked to someone else, you'd get a different response.

Not sure if they are using a DVC room. AKL did have these available in May when we went. We requested it but it was also in the closet when we got there. Perhaps all rooms there will have them. Shouldn't be a fee either.

My cousin is heading down in 2 weeks. I just talked to her and she made her requests last night with no mention of a change fee.

Clearly, the CM must have been mistaken. There is no fathomable reason why you would be charged to make a request. That's just ludicrous. We all know that a good percentage of the call center CM's are not as well trained as they could be. I would call back and speak with someone else.

We were there in April and requested a crib for our room. We got the crib, no extra charge, nor should there have been.

you could always call the resort - don't speak to the front desk - that is outside vendors - ask to speak to the gift shop and have them transfer you to the real front desk.

This works. Verified. You could also ask for housekeeping then transfer.

I agree with the others. The CM didn't know what she was talking about. That modification fee only kicks in if you change something that would affect your package documents, which a pack-n-play certainly does not. If you are nervous, yes, just call housekeeping when you get there.

What? They are now charging if you change your vacation dates?

I'm staying DVC in December at AKL-Kidani and it states on the website (disneys) that they have pack n plays in all the rooms.

I suspect OP is staying in a regular room in Jambo. All DVC units at Jambo (the villas on the 5th and 6th floors) and Kidani (which is all DVC villas) should have pack n plays in the closet - the cash reservation rooms on the lower floors of Jambo probably don't. Personally, I wish the DVC villas didn't have them in the closets either and simply made them available by request, as they take up storage space in the closet when not in use and for those of us not blessed with small children we just leave them in the closet at a loss of space for other things, ah well.

It's not a new policy but it doesn't apply to doing things like requesting a pack and play. It's a paperwork fee for making adjustments to a package within 2 weeks of arrival. Call back and ask again. You may have gotten a phone agent who didn't know what they are doing. If you were adding an infant to the room, you would probably get the charge. But just requesting a pack and play for an already registered infant, no.

They don't charge if you change your vacation dates but they will not add or subtract dates anymore, you have to cancel and rebook. If you had a discount on the original reservation, you may not be able to apply it to a new reservation. That is what is meant by "penalizing" guests who want to change their reservation.

No, they only charge if you change after the 45 day and you're downgrading. Usually if you upgrade they don't charge :rolleyes2

But what they started to do is it you booked on a discount, then you want to change dates, maybe example: coming in a day earlier or later or shift dates to a week earlier, you used to be able to keep the discount you booked on.as long as the dates were within the promo booked. Now you can only keep discount IF there are still rooms available on the promo in the system. And we know how fast discounts go.

I called back and added the pack n play at no charge. The CM didn't understand why I was told that in the first place.
