October 2015 PTR: a “Halloweenie” and her Fearless Companion conquer their first HHN!

I bet I would find DM worse on my head, then, than Spiderman. At times, it was that HUGE screen (and our proximity to it) that was almost dizzying.

Steve and Jake both did Simpsons when we visited in 2012, and while they thought the ride was well done, both were visibly "off" for hours afterward. the motion really bothered them. Steve has vowed never again. He'd rather win me more toys at the Sledgehomer game and top it off with a Flaming Moe and a ride on the Twirl 'n Hurl  .[/QUOTE

Hi Gina!

I never tried Gringotts- my husband said it was too much like the mummy and I would not be able to handle it. It's weird though- I have no
problem with simulators?? I love the Simpsons and DM. I thought Transformers was a much smoother ride than Spiderman- but I love them both.
Spiderman has one spin that is about one and a half rotations- once that is over I know I can relax and enjoy the rest of the ride! I just can not
handle the spinning on MIB- that is the worst spinny ride to me.

If you ever do St Augustine I would go in December - they have the light festival and it is beautiful! If you do plan to go check out floridahistoriccoast.com-
it has all kinds of info.

I'd love to visit the Shedd Aquarium, Navy Pier and Wrigley Field. Heck, I'd love to see Brian Adams in concert, too!! :thumbsup2

Shedd Aquarium is really neat and Navy Pier (especially on a nice day) is just fun to stroll around. We did the ferris wheel there - but our friends we were with refused due to the height - the cabs are much more "open air" than the the Eye! One of the companies we are distributors for has their headquarters in Chicago so about every other year the annual meeting is there-this year I got to go on my first factory tour! Did I mention that it is World's Finest Chocolate?? OMG the BEST smelling tour ever!!

As far as spiderman and transformers-if you can handle MiB and Gringotts then Spiderman is easy peasy-thought it was tamer than Transformers - although both were less intense than Gringotts and several notches below Forbidden Journey! My son is NOT a coaster fan and LOVED Spiderman and Transformers (and MiB-think MiB replaced Buzz in MK as his all time favorite ride-thank heavens for EP as we rode it ~8 times over 2 days.) Mummy is much more intense-ride and overall feel wise. I think I am the only one who enjoyed the Simpsons ride-family is just not a fan of Simpsons and I think that colored their perception (ride motion was no problem) My son and I did Twirl and Hurl too without problems.

Glad to hear Jake is doing better-there is funny strain of strep making it's rounds...not typical strep symptoms yet always cultures postive. My son had the same thing this past spring.

I cannot wait to hear about the private tour! Bet that will be amazing! Sometimes you just gotta splurge a little...

As of today this is the predictions. Not sure I'd fully trust the weekend numbers... but overall looks like overall resort numbers low. Since they go off historical numbers I think they are a bit on the low side...still not bad!

For our days in June they predicted 9's but ended up being 6-7 actual; the crowds were NOT bad at all at that level..

If anyone wants to do museums in Chicago, join a cheap local US science museum (we joined Michigan science centre). It gets you into the Field, Adler and Chicago Science museum. Plus we used it for the Ontario Science centre too. Check out reciprocal admissions. It is a great deal!

World's Finest Chocolate?!?!? Really!? We have a WFC outlet in Campbellford, a teeny tiny town about 40 minutes from where I live (my BFF lives 10 minutes from their doorstep, and brings me little bags of heaven from time to time). I will wholeheartedly agree.....there's no better chocolate on earth! (sorry, Ghiradelli)

The open air ferris wheel would be a big fat NO for me....I am terrified of high places (the trolley train at IOA makes my heart race :rotfl2:). They Eye I'm OK on (its a very different and less intimidating feel when you're closed in) but if there's a chance I could fall to my death and make a big splat on the pavement, I'm definitely out!

I am very appreciative of your ride intensity comparisons for the ones I'm considering at Universal: with everyone's feedback considered, I think I will be just fine on both Spiderman and Transformers (at the very least, I'll try them both once and see if they're something I want to repeat). I know I'll give the Mummy a pass. Twirl 'n Hurl is one of my fave's, right up there with ET!

Thank you for the kind wishes for Jake. Yes, he is definitely on the mend! He picked up his car on Wednesday night and that combined with the antibiotics have helped turn him back into my happy boy. Fingers crossed that the rest of the summer is a healthy one! (and that Steve and I don't catch his germies)

Its funny you speak of the need for splurging  . I was just thinking last night.....maybe we should throw caution to the wind and go to MNSSHP too :scratchin. Declining dollar be darned! We work hard, who knows if we'll be back during the fall again.....all those justifications. I haven't pulled the trigger yet and ordered tickets (but they are still available for our dates.....I checked :rolleyes1) and I'm sure I'll snap back into my normal fiscal responsible-ness but until then, I must admit.....I'm tempted....... (you know, something to balance off the terror I'm going to suffer at HHN!). I have to agree with you though, the RIP tour is going to be well worth the financial output. Nothing beats front of the line access  ... its one of the things I love most about Universal!

You are INCREDIBLE! :worship: Thank you so much for taking the time to look up those numbers and post them for me!

They are much lower than I had anticipated, and interestingly enough not much different from their May predictions. Gotta love that "3" on October 12th at IOA :thumbsup2 .

Yes, do it! Do it now before you change your mind LOL!

I'm a big believer in doing those seasonal things when you can because you really don't know when you will be back again at that time.

I really enjoy your reports! For what it's worth, your enthusiasm for Orlando makes me feel normal.

I am really looking forward to HHN. With that said though, I think you should consider going to MNSSHP! We plan on going to both while we are there. As great as HHN may be, there is no candy that I know of!

Like you, I swear I am super frugal in the "real world" but when it comes to vacations, I tend to not hold back as much... It somehow works out in the yearly budget. I gladly skip new cloths and fancy housewares for memories made on vacation:teacher:.

Ok, for what it's worth, I'm also going to MNSSHIP the night before I leave. I liked it so much, I decided, I'd pay that too, since after all, with my AP, I can come and go at Universal, the party's not that much more money. Plus, I am moving to Disney that day, so the price of the hotel is less than my hotel at Universal. I figure as long as I am in Orlando, I will do both.

Hey Gina! We're back from Tennessee! It was a great trip! I may post a trip report--or really an annotated bullet list of what we did--although I'm not sure where. I received a lot of good advice from the fine folks on the Budget board, so I'll probably post it there.

I power skimmed and caught up on your PTR. As you know, I agree with the PP who said you need to visit St Augustine. I stand by ready to assist with meager advice and advanced reconnaissance!

Hi Gina

You've been busy with your plans while I was away in Orlando. They look really good to me. I'm another VW driver - I really like mine. Although yesterday someone did some serious damage to it in a car park at the local shopping centre and didn't leave their details. That will mean I'll be a few hundred pounds out with my insurance excess. Just when my finances can least afford it.

Trying to remember exact details of Spider-Man and Transformers. They are quite similar. Transformers was noisier but I think Spidey was the more intense. I think if you can do Gringotts and Forbidden Journey you should be alright. I should put a disclaimer in case you find this not to be the case.

Hee hee.....you were supposed to talk me OUT of it. A post like yours makes me really, really wanna order those tickets!! :rotfl2: (I have been thinking the same thing....."don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today". After all, what if I get hit by a bus, or attacked by a rabid bear? It could happen. It's pretty wild up here in the Canadian north :rolleyes2 .)

Amen, sister :thumbsup2. I'm rather a minimalist at home: I have no desire for a lot of "stuff" (a tad bit of my OCD shining through, I will admit.....I despite clutter). I would never skimp on a "need", but when it comes to a "want"....its mostly vacation related  .

You give me some good food for thought (pardon the pun :bitelip: ). There's candy at MNSSHP. Perhaps that might help sway Steve-o to my side (he's not a big Disney fan).

Great plan :) . I didn't realize you were doing both Disney and Universal on this trip. You're going to be a busy girl!

Welcome back!! I am thrilled to hear that you had such a good time in Tennessee :goodvibes . Feel free to share your trip details here as well.....I, for one, always enjoy hearing about other locations that might become a destination for a future adventure.

When we finally get to schedule St. Augustine into the plans for one of our trips, you can bet your boots I'll be picking your brain as well. The more suggestions, the better!

Welcome back to you as well!! How was your trip? Pictures, details? (if you care to share with the rest of us, of course!)

So sorry to hear about your car :( ... that seriously stinks. We had something similar happen to us a few years ago. Came out of the grocery store, and there was a big hole in the front bumper where someone had backed into us with a trailer hitch :headache:. I was beyond peeved....how can someone do that and just drive away?

Gringotts I was fine on (hated the initial drop, but I lived through it) but I've never tried Forbidden Journey, and probably won't. It bothers Steve, so I can only imagine it would do me in completely. I am actually getting pretty excited about giving Spiderman and Transformers a try, though. If I'm correct in what I have gleaned about each so far, there's no physical dropping (just a few that are simulated by the ride vehicle tipping and the on-screen effects?) so I can probably close my eyes through those few moments and enjoy the balance of the experience.

Yep,the eye closing works for me. I close when Spider-Man lowers you down from pretty high. It is towards the end. On transformers, when we go high, is where I close my eyes. I can do the FJ once. Have not seen all either as I close my eyes when I get queeze. Yes, both of the other rides are just watching the screen. I have to close my eyes with any screen with movement. Motion sick is something I have never outgrown. I do take medicine, but I still close my eyes when I feel the movement.

The trip was fantastic and was over much too quickly. I have started the trip report - the link is in my signature if anyone wants to see photos. I'm on our first day at Universal at the moment.

I will pretty much go on anything but funnily enough both times I rode Forbidden Journey I felt nauseous just as it took a dip at the quidditch part. So if anyone is doing that you may want to close your eyes at the bit where they say "let's go".
