Let's talk about NAPS
So the twins are officially three now, and it is officially LESS than 3 weeks from our trip.
And I can see that my son's sleeping patterns are changing pretty drastically. So I've been thinking about naps, napping strategies, and (gasp!) skipping some naps!
FIrst, you should know how differently my two kids sleep. My daughter is the poster child for a good sleeper. She's the kind of kid, if she were only a singleton, that would trick you into thinking "this parenting this is easy street, why doesnt everyone have 10 kids?"! Basically she wakes up in the morning sweet as pie, no crying, waits for me in her bed to come get her. Then early afternoon (and sometimes late morning) she says "mommy Im tired I want to go lay down," where she promptly falls asleep for at least 2 hours. Then at bedtime I just tuck her in, give her a kiss, and I'm outta there. If I ask her if she wants anything, she says "leave, mommy." When we are at a hotel or staying at homeone's house, she will ask us to leave the room for a minute or two before she falls asleep, it's pretty funny. Bottom line: Perfect sleeper.
Ben, on the other hand, is a nightmare. Or maybe it just looks that way compared to his sister. But, he doesnt like bedtime, or naps, or waking up, or anything having to do with snoozing. Ben is the first one up in the house about 80% of the time. He wakes up pretty cranky until he has had something to eat. He has no ability to judge his own exhaustion, and gets very cranky when tired and needing a nap.... but some days this just doenst happen. Especially lately! (more on this below). Then at bedtime, after I have tucked in sister, the Ben routine starts. He always needs his "stuff" to sleep with, and a cup of water. We have a long routine of songs he gets. Then I leave. He sneaks out of his room at least 3 times, each with lots of tears, before he will finally let himself fall asleep. Oh, then he sneaks into our bed EVERY NIGHT. Typically around 1130 or 330, depending.
So, lately Ben has not been having his afternoon cranks everyday, and seems just fine... coupled with his late nights/early mornings I have been thinking he may be close to being done with nap time. I am pretty sure he wont nap at preschool in the fall. And he isnt a good stroller napper for Disney (as opposed to sister, who loves stroller napping). There are also days at Disney where I have a late (ish) night planned, and I REALLY want him to get a nap on those days. I have a new plan now: Strategic nap skipping for the boy! (flexible, of course, if I can see the super crank coming--- Ben skipped his nap one day last during our december trip and proceeded to ruin my dinner at BOG--- and it was a
MVMCP night so we were planning a long one. Luckily daddy was able to get him to fall asleep in the stroller around 6pm for a couple hours, but the experience scarred me--- of course he was much younger then).
I've also noticed that if he skips his nap one day, he tends to take a REALLY GOOD ONE the next day.
I present my touring plans, with flexible napping schedule for twin #2
Day1: Epcot. Morning park, lunch at Beaches and Cream, then a swim... we will go to room around 1 pm to nap assuming everyone needs it on a first day. If not Daddy can take B back down to the pool. We go to Coral Reef for an earlyish dinner so no big deal if he misses as we can easily be in bed by 7.
Day 2: DHS: morning ice palace makeovers. Ride rides. I will totally skip nap and spend all day in the park if possible, depending on how Ben is handling it. I feel there are still a lot of attractions for the little ones here, they love shows and characters so we could fill the day. Dinner will either be an early MM wiht fantasmic! or 50s prime time, I still can't decide. IF naps happen, we will stay for fireworks. If not, home for bed.
Day 3: Epcot: relaxed touring day with plenty of pool time. Early morning Akershus, and dinner around 6 at San Angel. I want to walk the world showcase. Hoping we can skip nap today to help facilitate better napping the next day.
Day 4: transition day. We will have breakfast at Cape May, check out, and head to Typhoon LAgoon. Pretty sure I am just going to let Disney transfer our luggage to the poly. Cabana rental so we have a "home base," and potential nap zone. I have no idea how long we will stay. Depends on how much the kids like it, the weather, etc. If it is a total wash out rain-wise we are going to just hang at the resorts all day. There is a rain policy for the cabana rentals so that is good. Today is an essential nap day, but very complicated by the potential lack of a hotel room.... but hopefully we get an early text our room is ready so if we do need to head over there we can. THis evening is our Pirate and Pals cruise, and the time of Wishes got pushed back an hour from the time it was when I booked it, so it will be a pretty late night for us.
Day 5: sleep in (which means 8 at the latest to us). Breakfast at resort at Ohana. RElaxing morning. CHeck out the pool. Judge need for nap. Hopefully nap from 12-130. More important for SYlvie, since she is getting her BBB makeover and serious princess time this afternoon. Ben has plans to hang with daddy but no ADRs or anything so they can come back to resort if needed. 240 appointments for both at BBB. Then princesses, then the girl and I are going to CRT for some mother/daughter time. Early dinner so we should be home by 7.
Day 6: AK day. probably go to the park until 1-2, then decide if they need a nap or just want to go to the pool. NO other plans for the evening. I'd like to watch Wishes from the poly beach if possible
Day 7: MK again, full day of crazy. pre-park opening breakfast. Planning break from 1-5. No evening ADR so we dont have to come back if crank happens. Or I can take one kid by myself.
Day 8: another MK prepark breakfast day, and our going home day. Plane isnt until 7 so ME will probably get us around 4. Will have to figure out logistics of baggage access to change before flight, I am sure we will be sweaty. Nap fairly important so we dont piss off the whole plane (which has never happened, my kids are good fliers, thankfully).
Okay, I think that is as flexible of a schedule as I can have and still schedule the things that Absolutely needed to... our ADRs and our BBBs. I really actually appreciate the noshow policy, charging and all, but sometimes I wish they had a toddler exemption
As this is our third trip this year I have a pretty good idea what to expect in terms of moods with my kids, (and we wouldnt have planned three if there werent all pretty much 90% happy all the time), but thanks for letting me ramble on about my mommy worries!
