Disney Addresses “Too Many Magic Bands” Complaint

(did you mean "Bands" instead of "Bandits"?) No more so than losing a "Card" in my opinion.

Don't the AP holders just get ONE band? I don't know as I am not currently an AP holder, but I thought they got one MB (Per) and some kind of charm that goes on it (or something like that). If I were an AP holder, I don't think I'd want multiple bands in the same year if I were going that frequently.

All of this being said, I hate the thought of "Throwing" these away every time as suggested. It just seems very wasteful. I am thinking, that if there IS a battery in the devices (for the Active RFID), then it should be designed to be removed easily (by an adult) to be replaced so that you don't have to have a new one each time.

Also, short of those who are going very frequently (probably a lot of Florida residents), why would you take ALL of those bands with you if you don't need them? I would think when you get your new bands, that you pack only them to take with you. When we got our "FIRST" ever MBs we took them out of the box only to check them out. Then they went back in until we left for our trip. We then packed them for travel.

Don't get me wrong, I can see a better way to handle this, but as Andrew015 suggested above, I am sure once WDW figures out all the bugs they will start to streamline this process as well to maximize the profits, because while the MBs probably don't cost a lot, I am certain, it's a cost savings that could be had on the bottom line.
Yes but if an AP holder stays on site multiple times through out the year they could rack up a good amount of bands.

I thought people liked having multiple bands because you can add a day-of fast pass to the ones you aren't using for that trip?

I am actually really happy about this opt-out option. We are AP and DVC. So far we have over 10 magic bands between us. It was really nice to be able to opt-out for our trip in October. You can bring old magic bands to the resort and they will dispose of them properly. As of this point there is no recycling which i think is a shame.

I was told while at Disney that they will actually recycle them for you. (By "recycle", I am assuming they remove the chip and recycle the plastic.) Of course, you should deactivate the old bands when you are done.

I just don't get the concept of saving these things. If you only ever went once, perhaps save one as a souvenir, but to collect a whole bunch of them...they certainly aren't fashionable. And they only work for about 2 years, so after that you can't use them anyways. I plan on deactivating and returning all our old ones this trip.

I don't think that is the case. You can only add as many FP+ as you have tickets, and you can only link your tickets to one set of bands. IF that ever was a loophole, you could bet Disney would close it fast.

You can only do 1 fast pass at a time ,but it can be done. And you have to do it in the park at the kiosk.

Anyway, it seems a shame that they didn't design them to be re used. Could have have saved of those billions of dollars the spent on it if the band's were reusable, and the batteries were replaceable.

Very new news...there is now, or soon will be an option to decline another set of magic bands!

We're doing a split stay this fall and am glad I can cancel one of the sets of Magic Bands. We'll already have the tickets on one band, so rather than having to transfer the tickets to the new band when we switch hotels, we'll just have the hotel change the room access on the bands we've been using. No need for Disney to go through the waste of shipping us a second set for a single trip.

Not that it matters now because you can decline them, but what I was told was that I should only customize the first set of bands. Then they won't mail me the second set. When I get to the second hotel and they offer me the bands, I then decline them. They would be the grey - non-customized bands, and therefore they could just put them back in stock. Then they put the new room on your old bands.

I personally can't imagine why anyone would opt out.

My experience, the bands we used more than 7 days start to come off easier when brushed against bag or even a higher speed ride. We've had 3 stop working. Disney isn't really sure how long they last and we've been told a few times it's about 2 years. it's 2 things in the band and one has a battery. The active/battery part is what triggers the in ride photos and video.

I'll be getting new bands every trip (or year) depending on how well they stay on and how often we go. I'll be carrying my old one just to make sure the ride photo is captured and in case we once again have a band stop working.

I thought declining Magic Bands was always an option, but understand maybe not an online reservation one. I have one grey Magic Band from a stay back when they were testing them and another colored one from my AP. Anytime I would make reservations I would call and say I already have magic bands. When it came to check in time they would never have any for me, but would ask if I had our magic bands. I only have 2 per person despite a fair number of stays on property.

My family and I took our very first WDW vacation in May. When we were looking at our flight options we added a day onto our stay, but at a different resort (to save money since we would only be there long enough to sleep). I was shocked to see two sets of MagicBands on our MDE and thought that was going to be entirely too confusing for 10 people to keep track of. I didn't realize that the technology was new and they didn't automatically put ALL the information on one band. I just called the help line and they told me how to opt out of receiving the second set and assured me that both resort room keys would be on one band. We only had a slight problem with having the right band coded for the right room, but they worked perfectly the rest of the time.

If we were lucky enough to go more than 1 time a year I would keep the same band as long as it worked. I would be too afraid that any extras would be lost.

If you "put your credit card" on your MB, or whatever you do, and you're walking around with multiple MBs, or bringing MBs to your resort, or leaving your extra MBs at home because you like them or you want to use them to book multiple FPs or something ... then where's the security that will prevent an authorized use of the MB when you're not wearing/using it yourself? If it's accessible by RF then what will stop people from "scooping" or otherwise reading and duplicating your MB and using it to buy stuff? If someone gets access to your MB can they use it figure out where your resort room is and get into the room? Access your profile on MDE and get your home address?

Seems to me there's a lot more reasons for doing something about extra MBs floating around than just worrying about people scamming extra FPs ...

Getting a new band every year is one thing. But I have an AP and have DVC friends who come multiple times a year and put me on their reservation so I can stay with them sometimes. That means 4 or more bands a year (plus the new one they send me for my AP each year). Plus my kids and husband have 2 each, at least. That's a LOT of bands to manage.
And then during my last stay, none of the 3 bands I brought as backups worked as a room key. None. Neither did they one they sent me for that reservation--they couldn't even find a way to make it work. I had to borrow a MB from a friend staying with me. Apparently I have too many and need to deactivate them. Fine. It would have been nice to know that beforehand. Or--they can just stop sending them to me. Problem solved! Yay!

When you use your MB to pay for things you have to key in your pin so if someone knew what resort you were staying in and what your room number was, it's possible they could get in your room (seriously what are the odds) but they could not charge to your band. Heck half the time I can't charge to my band and I know the pin (only because I have to reset it every trip because I forget it).

I'm glad you get the option to opt out, I currently have two bands in each color and was told at both resorts during my last split stay that I needed to deactivate some of them because it was causing problems. I've done 3 split stays, 2 bands each, have an AP band, have my original gray band from the trial runs, another band from a non split stay, last trip I booked a split stay on Orbitz and later got a better deal through Disney, MB had already been ordered so for a 2 split stay I got 3 bands. Truthfully, I don't even know where a couple of them are, I found one under my seat in my car the other day. I can't remember which red one was the first one so I'm guessing when I get around to it I'll deactivate both of them since I know the green and blue ones are the most recent cause I didn't like those colors. Sigh, opt out for me.

No...bandits...those little charms

They suck
That's why we haven't bought any. We bought a set of sliders that they don't make anymore. They are Mickey Minnie and Donald but they are like the AP or DVC sliders not the sliders that have a square in the middle for the Mickey head.

That's the exact problem we had with some of our bands, except they weren't the old ones that didn't work as either a room key or the park entrance. I can see visiting that frequently that you may want to skip. The big one for me is how well I think they will stay on, when it seems to be too easy to come off which tends to be the end of any lengthy trip, I like the new ones.
