Where to put room requests

I keep seeing people say to put room requests on the actual reservation-but I haven't seen that option.

Tips?

On the Member website (MS) under the tab - Help & Contact there is a link called Contact Us, if you click those words, an email form will open up for the owner to send an email to MS. Always add your reservation number to the email.

I contacted them-but is there a way to input it while you are making your reservation?

Not online, we just got online reservations a couple of years ago, before that we had to call each time. DVC is very slow to do things for it's members.

It seems like having more people to answer the phone for mundane requests is more expensive-but who am i?

I used the online email tool to ask for a room request on Wed (now 4 days ago) and haven't received any reply other than the automated email saying they received it. Is this normal? True I didn't put the actual reservation number because I didn't have it handy, but I did put the check in date and resort, and the form lists my member number, so I thought that was enough. Now wondering if I should send another one or wait another few days or what.

The automated response says that it can take 5 business days. They are slow but I have never had them make an error or not add the request to the reservation. When calling to add the request, we have had MS not add the request even though they acted on the phone like they did. This would make me call twice, once to add the request and a call back to verify that they really did add the request.

Ok thanks- I think I will wait through this week then and see what happens. True when you email you have it in writing, which is always nice.

Is it true that if you put in a room request during online check in, it "cancels" out the request you already made with member services??

I Was told by MS that putting in a request during on-line check-in does nothing for DVC rooms, though I can't vouch that it is true. The same MS-CM told me that it is NOT true that putting a request in during on-line check-in cancels out the previous request. (Again, I don't know if true or not.) I gave the request verbally, but I am sure you can also do it in chat or e-mail.

Awesome thanks! So basically, I gave MS my room request and I verified it is on the reservation. When I do online check in in MDE, should i just not check anything off on the room request section?

Yes, i agree with that. One of two things happens (1) it does nothing at all or (2) it overrides the requests you already put in, neither of which is desirable.

When should I put that request in? Closer to trip or right away?

It probably doesn't matter much, as long as you do it at least 10 days for the trip begins. I was told once many, many years ago that they look at room requests about 5 days in advance. They DO try to fill them as best they can, because such a small fraction of guests put in true room requests. (Beyond - "lower floor" "close to main building" type requests.) My opinion with room requests is you are generally never going to get a specific "room", because even if they are willing to do it, you only have about a 10% chance that room is unoccupied the day you arrive. I personally have put in a room request at POFQ, Pop, and CBR, usually I request a certain building(s) and each time I have gotten the request. In October, we did our first DVC trip, and I requested and was given Congress Park. Again, that's a pretty broad request, but we wanted to be close to DTD for bus access, and it worked out perfect. Our next trip coming up I put in a room request for a range of rooms at the Beach Club. (Room XX27 to XX35) mostly to be close to the front of the resort - my requests tend to be about minimizing the amount of walking I have to do. This may be a bit trickier, because there were only like 16 studios in the room range I gave, some of those being lock-offs, so at best it's only about 15% of the available rooms. There's good odds that at least 2 of those rooms will be available when we arrive, so with any luck we will get one.

Update- MS emailed me back exactly one week later! They said they added the request to my reservation, and reminded me that it was a request and not guaranteed, of course. That was much less painful than calling twice! Thank you!

There have been some reports that some room assigners fill requests in order by the date that the request was entered.

Requesting a range of room numbers doesn't tell the assigner why you wanted those rooms and where to put you if they aren't available. Close to front of resort may be a better request.
