We're Going to Disney! - How do you tell your kids?

We will be gifting our kids with Disney for Christmas (before Christmas - but still December). This won't be the first time they've gone - but taking them is a pretty big deal, especially because this is what they're getting instead of a bunch of gifts under the tree. All the other times we have just told them right out that we were planning to go but we wanted to do something fun this time. It's killing me not to say something - I've had to catch myself a bunch of times. So does anyone have some super-fun ways to tell a 6 and 8 yr old they're going to Disney for Christmas?

We've been several times but our last trip we decided to surprise our girls. I bought a huge pack of balloons and filled our family room the night before our trip. I had one balloon filled with princess confetti that was a totally different color. When they woke up in the morning they were so excited when they saw the room. I had them pop the one balloon and when the confetti fell out they figured it out. I believe my dh counted over 150 balloons. It was crazy fun. Have a great trip

There are lots of different opinions on this. For DLR, we actually waited until we were there at the GC at DLR and asked if the kids knew where they were. For WDW, I'm planning a scavenger hunt but haven't decided if the reveal will be at home or at the airport.

The one time we surprised the kids with a trip as a Christmas gift, we gave them tee shirts that said "I'm going to Disneyworld". They had looked at the box and were like "it's clothes..." and then opened them and before reading them were like "tee shirts...." and then they read them and got super excited! :)

Maybe tell them at Thanksgiving...? Our family usually goes around the table and says something we are thankful for. You could say you are thankful for Pixie Dust and see if they catch on.

Love this idea! Now if only I can bite my tongue till Thanksgiving! lol

We are surprising them with their first ever trip in October. We are leaving out of Providence RI on Oct 25th, and have booked a hotel for the night before right next to the airport to make the morning a bit less hectic. As far as they know we are going out there to their step-dad's extended family reunion. We made sure to tell them all sorts of stuff that would lead them to believe this would be exceptionally boring for them, but they're in good spirits anyways because they love staying in hotels. Once we are all checked in we will hand each of them a wrapped gift (which we will have had in the car, but told them were gifts for their step-dads "Uncle Walt"...tee-hee) and inside will be Disney related stuff, their tickets, homemade tshirts, etc. I'm excited! Have an amazing trip whatever you decide to do!!

We are from RI too! I'm sure your family will have an amazing time! What a great fun way to surprise them! Make sure to capture their reactions on video ;) Of all the times I've told them I've never thought to capture the little amazed looks on their faces and then I kick myself for it later lol

We have been before but we are also surprising our kids. They have no idea. We plan on telling them about a month before. I'm filling a box full of Mickey balloons so they float out. Included are our passes and a letter from Mickey inviting them to come visit. I am also making a countdown chain with stuff to do written on each loop. Some days just our normal daily activities will be on there (Saturdays are swim lesson days, Friday is always pizza night etc). I plan on adding things like "watch WDW vidoes on youtube", "have mickey shaped pancakes for dinner", "watch a Disney movie you've never seen before" etc. I can't wait. They have been patiently waiting and asking for a trip for awhile now.

My kids have been before, but we're going to try and surprise them with our next trip. We drive, so we're planning on waiting till the morning that we leave to tell them. I plan on having the car packed with lot of small surprises for the long drive. No big reveal, we just want to wake them with " guess what, we're going to Disney"!!!

We are actually from Mass but I love Providence airport :) We are definitely planning on videoing it, as this will be really the first and only time during their childhoods we will be able to take them. So excited!!

We did an in-car surprise when we were already in FL, and this time we got a bunch of Halloween black and orange balloons with one Mickey head. We tired them to their big Mickey and Minnie dolls on the couch. It took them a few minutes, mostly because of the weirdness of Halloween things in March! I think Mickey also had a note...
