Did you second guess your decision to purchase?

I've been thinking about buying dvc for a year now and have researched it for a long time. I think I'm informed enough about the product and the process. Now that I've decided on the resort, amount of points and use year, a resale with everything I'm looking for finally became available. And now I'm second guessing if I want to make an offer. Ugh.

Did you ever second guess your decision to buy? What pushed you to finally take the plunge?

I purchased last August (2 contracts - BCV) after 'thinking' about it for at least 15 years. Even though I had Buyer's Remorse, I have Buyer's Remorse after every purchase over $1,000 that I ever make.

Very soon, I realized I should have bought Old Key West when it opened and would have come out smelling like a Rose. Ridiculous I procrastinated so long.

Do it now. You'll regret it if you don't.

We did have second thoughts back in 94 but it was because we were given incorrect information by DVD. DVD ended up offering to buy us out even though we had actually bought resale and offered to make us whole. We decided to give it a try and decline their offer and we were happy we did. While we rarely stay on points now and using points is a lot more expensive for us, we have elected not to sell most or all our points, at least so far. But it's not because we are unhappy with DVC, we just have other options since most or our stays are on exchanges, for example, we have three 1BR units at SSR in a couple of months. I think it's natural to have second thoughts about limiting oneself to one type of vacation option and also for the money involved. If you've made good financial and other decisions in this process, I think you'll be glad you bought in. If you didn't make good choices, that will likely be highlighted going forward as you use it. But even in that situation for a resale there are 2 comforting thoughts. That even a "bad" decision is correctable with limited risk and cost (assuming resale) and that even a less than perfect choice in terms of points, use year or home resort isn't likely to be that big of a deal.

Not yet. Some of our points are at VWL which I dearly love. The new bungalows on the water have me a little concerned. I really hope they make them a separate resort.

What are your concerns about them? Or is there a thread about this? I was actually thinking of VWL as our home resort.

I don't own at VWL but I assume the biggest concern if the new bungalows (and possible rumored studios in the main lodge) join the current association would be that all the points joining the association would be from the very expensive bungalows (and possibly studios) which could create more competition for the 1 and 2 bedrooms during the home resort period. Also if the rumored studios cost a lot more points to book it could make the original studios more desirable as well and harder to book. No one knows what DVC plans to do regarding this expansion at VWL (and possibly at other DVC) so many members are watching closely. Also the renovation/expansion appears to be going to significantly change the resort's footprint and wilderness feel that so many owners love.

No regrets!!!! Spent to much time thinking about buying after investigating everything. Should of bought and started enjoying DVC with the family. Have not regretted buying, definitely feel I made the right decision!!

jani3, CMNJ has it correct. There is a lot of uncertainty with how the bungalows will affect the current VWL owners with points and booking issues. It will also add more people, which could affect the boat rides to and from MK. Currently we never really have to wait long and I hope it stays that way. The other issue is the 2042 end date. Can/will they make people extend out? With our ages we may not want a later end date as I am not sure our early twenties children will want our points. Of course extending may make our points worth more longer and we would then be able to sell them in 20 years and they would still be worth something.

VWL is a beautiful place to stay. It is separate from WL and the first floor has a fitness center and lots of room to sit and relax. The quiet pool is the best on property (for quiet pools). Walking down the covered wood bridge at night with the flickering lights and crickets to doors that open for you is wonderful. The whole place is serene and peaceful, yet close to action at MK, WL, and CR. I hope that does not change too much with the addition of the bungalows,

honestly yes within a few minutes of getting the call that we passed ROFR. All I could think was as if I just spent that much more money for Disney. Than my financing went to hell and I really regretted it but that only lasted a weekend while I regrouped, found the money to pay and move on. this was recently. We only received our member number and info a couple of weeks ago. With that said I'm already looking for another contract because I know the one we have is not enough
;)

Yes, I regretted it our first year. I didn't know to book far in advance. I didn't know about adr's. Our first stay 4 yrs ago was a disaster...

Suffice it to say, I learned a lot about the system. Now I book 7/11 mo on advance. I make adr's. I research.

And I love the cost savings. I just bought another dvc resort and doubled our points from 200 to 400.

We are using every single point.

So... 4 years after initial purchase, I no longer regret it at all ;) to the point where I even added on.

Hope that helps!

Bought on the spur of the moment. Never looked back. In fact we added on multiple times and have never regretted for a minute.

I started thinking about it in August 2010... Hemmed and hawed, and kept spending money on rooms at POR, thinking it wouldn't make
sense for me to buy into Disneyworld as I live on West Coast and I don't go to Disneyworld that often. Hah! I had been going almost
every year....

Then took a Disney Cruise Sep 2012, learned about Aulani, and bought, as now I had a Hawaii destination from the West Coast,
VGC, and Disneyworld to choose from. I hadn't really been following DVC, so I just missed the fact that there was an Aulani...

Points were $135 then. Between the "developer credit", shipboard credit, 100 SSR one time use points they gave us as incentive,
and winning the $100 raffle at the end of the presentation, my point basis works out to be just under $115/pp.
Still more than resale. So financially, a bit bummed, but I got over it and starting buying Disney stock and watching that ride up better
than any stock market mutual fund.... I showed that Mouse!

As for the emotional upsides, I'm very happy I've done it and regret not having done it sooner. We enjoy the nicer accommodations,
and since you have to book in advance to get where you want to stay, gives us something to look forward to every year or so.
We discuss which resort we like more, where we want to go to, etc. Really do enjoy TOTWL as well.

Here's an example of no regrets...
There is no way I would ever lay down $400 or $500/night for a Savannah view at AKL, so having DVC has allowed me to
experience something I just wouldn't have done, I just can't fork that kind of money over for a room...

I've even done SWW twice with my DD, probably would not have done that if I didn't have DVC. Definitely would not have
stayed at BWV if I didn't have DVC. Being able to stay at BWV standard room for SWW "feels" like a great deal as
compared to renting a room there, and you just can't beat the walk to HS or Epcot...

Now I'm trying to figure out how to acquire BWV and start looking forward to Food & Wine Festival at Epcot...
And thinking of adding on some VGC so I can go at Christmas time for Candlelight Procession and not just
hope I get in with a cancellation...

No regrets -- just have to realize you will be spending more money with the Mouse... But we enjoy it,
and we try to make up for what we spend by buying more Disney stock...

Just have to be careful to remember there is stuff to do other than The Mouse... He makes it so easy to just
show up and forget the "real" world. So, in 2017 we plan to go to the UK, but then of course, take a Disney Cruise
out of Dover...

Yep! But all I have to do is look backward on the budgets of our previous WDW vacations. My first WDW vacation in 2006 cost me $4000 and that included air, hotel, tix, and meal plan at a Moderate Resort. Can't touch that anymore even in a value. I'll pay nearly that just for the WDW package and have to add on the $1500 for air to boot. My upcoming trip to WDW will be in a 2 bedroom for three nights for only $515 in maintenance fees. If I'd have booked the same at POR I'd have to be in two rooms and it would have cost me about $900.

We bought in 2012 after 6+ years of thinking about it and renting point. My one and only regret is that we didn't buy sooner. It has been money well spent. It has provided us with wonderful family memories. Now I'm trying to figure out how to buy another contract. I prefer to pay cash for my DVC so I'm slowly putting aside cash and watching the resale market. Prices keep going up and up....if I had the extra cash I would buy right now but with two kids at private colleges...cha ching$$$$. Hoping for some time in the next year.

My only regret is that we didn't find more details about DVC earlier. We always enjoyed our Disney vacations but rarely could justify the expense compared to other vacations for more nights. DVC has given us the ability to take Disney vacations regularly.

The only time DH and I had any regret with a DVC purchase was when we purchased our Aulani contract and we went with a different UY. We ended up changing the Aulani contract to make it the same UY to match our other DVC points within a couple of days and then we were both very happy with it we didn't have to deal with transferring points between contracts.

I have to admit to some uncertainty recently when we recently finally bought into one of our all time favourite resorts, VWL, and right after it passed ROFR, they announced the construction and changes coming to the resort. We are slightly disappointed but hope that they will maintain the overall feel of the resort.

Other than that- not for a millisecond! I love the program and the flexibility it offers.

We debated for YEARS about purchasing DVC - wish we had done it earlier when it was cheaper - especially as we've gone every year once or twice, staying deluxe most times. We just bought in resale - looking forward to our first stay as members.
