My DD turned 12 earlier this month, later next month she starts 7th grade, her first year of junior high.
She has yet to wear make up, shave or otherwise remove body hair, she's dark blonde, has fair body hair.
What do you or did you allow your upcoming or past 7th grade DD to do cosmetic/beauty wise?

Why is this in rumors and news? Anyway, in 7th grade shaving, if your daughter feels necessary could be ok. Check with the schools dress code. Many junior highs here only allow chap stick or the like. Otherwise if she wants to I would say light make up like lip gloss and natural tone make up would be ok. Good luck. I hope your daughter has a great year!!

DD is 13 going into 8th grade. Middle school starts in 6th grade here. She doesn't wear make-up, but that's her choice. She has a make-up set she got for Christmas, but she only uses it during sleepovers when they're playing around. Sometimes she'll wear lipgloss to school.

She has been shaving since she started middle school, although I don't think she bothers shaving her legs in the winter. DD is brunette, so darker hair. That may also make a difference in desire to wear make-up. DD has long, dark lashes and no need for mascara.

(I would LOVE to have her lashes, unfortunately she didn't get that from me.8-))

I have no idea, if it was moved here I don't know why that would be moved here either.
I've seen other threads moved to odd places even though I have to say that this would be the weirdest yet!

Our middle school is 7th and 8th. My DD started shaving legs and armpits since starting 7th grade. Since she's an athlete, so she rarely uses make up during the school days. Most of the time, it's just lip gloss or tinted lipstick. I find, since my kids go to a public school, it's a range of lots of make up to none. I'd let your DD do what she and you feels is right, and check with the school's attire rules to see what's not allowed. In my schools, the skirts and shorts must cover the tail end, and no offensive clothing. Nothing about make up, unless it's offensive.

I have DD15 & DD16 who are getting ready to start their sophomore year in high school. They started shaving at around 12, when they started feeling self-conscious about their hair. A lot of their friends wear make up, but they don't wear much more than mascara. I bought some cheap stuff for them to play with, but they don't really have any interest in it. I would not push it, but if your DD asks about makeup, buy her some cheap stuff and have her check out tutorials on YouTube.

To answer the question, my 15 year old doesn't wear make up. She just doesn't care. She started shaving around 11 or 12 years old (she's blonde as well). I think I would encourage her to shave, if she wants to. 7th grade boys can be a real PITA about that.

Moved ~ definitely a better fit for our Community board. If you guys see these kinds of things, please don't ever hesitate to click the "report" button so we can get the thread moved to where it should be much quicker.

Thanks! :goodvibes
Thanks Jackie!

My DD12 is starting 7th in September also. But she will be 13 September 12. She has shaved her legs since last year(before 6th grade started) Here 6/7/8 is middle school. Her leg hair is dark, but maybe every 3ish weeks. Her armpits had no hair until this summer, it is blond, so not noticeable. She shaves them every few weeks too. She is not very girly(although middle school changed that a bit), plays soccer, basketball and dances. So her legs are out. LOL
She does not wear makeup, I will help with some coverstick if her face breaks out(sometimes). If she wanted to wear it, I would be OK with it. She knows how to use it all(because of wearing it for dance)
I can say most of these middle school girls are GROWN!!!! Dang!!! LOL

My 12yr old shaves under her arms and wears very neutral eye shadow.
She has no desire to shave her legs yet and hasn't asked about wearing more makeup.
I'm curious on what year 12 will bring in regards to how she takes care of herself.

If she's not shaving, I'd have her start. A PP mentioned that boys this age can be cruel, but they're nothing compared to the girls this age. Dd19 started shaving in 5th (very blond), and dd12 and dd14 have been for years (dance). Dd19 went through an eyeliner phase in middle school - wish she'd wear some now! Dd14 wears mascara, dd12 nothing, but will probably start now that she's going into 7th. Because of dance, they're really good with makeup (and have some nice stuff - I love their Naked Palette).

Dd14 has been getting her eyebrows waxed since beginning of 7th, dd12 wants to, but she's so blond, she doesn't need it at all.
