Why do it to yourself?

Why do I do it? My wife and I are both desperate for a holiday, we hadn't planned to go away this year so haven't budgeted or saved to, but we have agreed we need to get away. We've settled on a beach holiday to keep costs down, but I still can't help but look into another WDW holiday and pine over photo's and videos. Why is it that even though I know it will depress me I can't help it? Am I alone in this?

DH is only prepared to visit WDW every 3-4 years and our last wait was 5 years. :( I work in a school so that keeps the prices higher. However I am reading these boards every day and enjoy planning phantom holidays - I like to think I'll be ready when we next plan a real WDW holiday. :)

Im forever planning in my head! I havent been since 2006, a lot of things have got in the way, my daughters Uni, then her moving away, now looking after my sick mother has pretty much made it impossible to go that far afield.

I watch videos galore on you tube and think of all the things I have new to try since I last went.

But Im ever hopeful, I am 55 in 2 years time and I can have a portion of my pension tax free, so if my sister can help out with mum, I think 2017 will be my first solo trip.

Dimplenose, every 3-4 years?!?! That's outrageous ;-) I'd be there every year if I could. Shame money is something we have to work to earn and save for.

Florida Sun I'm sorry to hear about your Mum, fingers crossed for you and my best wishes to your Mum.

You're not alone @Seany.

We can only afford every 2 years if we're lucky and after our last trip in 2013 I felt so depressed when we returned to the UK knowing the trip I'd spent 2 years planning was over. I literally cried for a few of days when I was alone... I felt a bit pathetic but its a hard let down.

Good news is there are plenty of people on these boards that can help you relive your holidays and chat about all things Disney and beyond!

I've had a great time today @BagOLaughs looking at pictures and videos I'd forgotten I'd even taken. The memories are great and this board is an extension of the magic I think :smickey:

The boards help you keep going I think. You're always pickup up new information and tips, and it's good to be able to chip in on other peoples questions. It's a good community here. Some other sites can be very unfriendly!

Yup it all helps. It's also nice to find people with the same "hobby" as you.

Do you listen to the podcasts? I find that helps too.

I have a trip planned for Nov. We got free dining so felt very lucky. My DH wants to cancel it. He says to plan a 2 week trip next Nov when hopefully the kids will be tall enough to go on most rides at Universal and we will spend 2 days there.
I think we should just go both years. He thinks people would think we are crazy since we've gone every year since our first trip. I tell him we just won't tell anyone.
I will be upset if I lose this argument. Our kids talk about Disney World literally every day.

We find we have to play it down to people, how much we're spending, and how often we are going, especially how long in advance we're planning or booking! Sometimes you're made to feel like a joke that you go back to the same place, they just don't understand.

My FIL does it to my Wife, yet he goes back to the same hotel in Spain every year, and watches the same boring entertainment every night and year. We took my In-Laws to Orlando on one trip. FIL just didn't get it, and

At least at Disney you literally can't see it all in one holiday, so you NEED to go back!

We've watched most of the 7 in 7 Videos, but I need to get into the podcasts on the train to and from work I think!

I've found this too. I try not to be so crazy about my holidays/planning/Disney especially to people that I don't know too well... However I have such a passion for it and I get so excited when my holidays are coming up, its hard not to talk about it. :hyper:

The hardest "justification" i've ever had to make to other people was visiting Tokyo Disney... People just didn't get why I was spending so much money to visit a "thing for kids". :rolleyes2

So yea, like you I try to keep it on the down low.

We are quite lucky in that we both have friends who are really into it too, we've met up with friends who are on their holiday at the same time as us, and out next trip is out there with them for most of the time too. So it's really good when we catchup with them we all have a bit of a brainstorm of ideas and plans :)

Tokyo you shouldn't need to justify. My friend who I used to work with went in April. We caught up last Friday. He had nothing but praise for the place, especially DisneySEA. Alot is overdubbed in Japanese, but it doesn't ruin it at all.

Jon84 I totally agree. DisneySea was amazing and I loved my trip! I would recommend ANYONE to go to Tokyo and experience it! But other people don't get it so I don't mention it.

I'm also fortunate I've got a mum, dad, boyfriend and best friend who totally get it. So I'm very lucky in that regards :cutie:

My colleagues... however, they don't get it at all. haha o_O
