From the Sea to the World - Holiday Edition - Completed

Ok - kind of like the comic book nerds who get two issues of each, one for the bag and one to read...

Actually, more a case of someone knowing she would love them and selecting two (one for salt, one for pepper) as part of her Christmas presents.......... :rolleyes1 and then realizing she ordered a whole set at the same time for herself! :faint:

I do have to admit it never entered my mind to just get her the whole set because after all, who needs four salt/pepper shakers! :confused3 :o But at the same time, I also wasn't surprised to find she already thought she needed the whole set. :sad2:

I do have my full set of shakers on a table and 2 that I use for salt and pepper. I had a Disney gift certificate that I used for them.

I thought it had ham and salami and cheese, but no turkey. .... It was very good, so naturally it was taken off the menu.

You have the same luck as Marv.....

The MVMCP is one event I have yet to do. Too funny about your shopping day, and how"ordinary" it was that details are not memorable.

The MK moving at time- that would have made me uneasy to say the least.

Hi Magdalene! I think I'm all caught up!

First, my sincere apologies in the delay between installments of this riveting tale. I'm not quite sure what took so long, but I seem to have delusions that I was on a cruise to some faraway kingdom to meet the royalty (Anna and Elsa were their name) who ruled. There might have also been a snowman who likes warm hugs and dreams of summer and .... oh ... I nodded off to sleep again. Back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Yes, as you can see, someone is still bitter that @nodnol and I did not take him to Norway with us...

I can't blame him there.

We actually had been at lunch before going to the mall and had been at Fuddruckers http://www.fuddruckers.com. I really liked the burger there and the nice thing is that they have a very nice condiment bar with stuff to put on your burger. Good place!

I love Fuddruckers! You just have to be careful about how you spell/say it.:rotfl2:

40?!?!! That was the first time we met! You told me you were 27!!!!

:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

I had tried a meatball sub at Earl of Sandwich once and was underwhelmed, but I am not a fan of Earl of Sandwich sandwiches, so I thought I try it here as I love the idea of a meatball sub.

Wow, I didn't think there was anyone around who didn't like Earl of Sandwich.

I generally think Earl is perfectly fine, but just that. Much like Dole Whips and the MK, they are greatly overrated by many people in the fan community!

Heresy! Blasphemy!

I love chocolate in all its many forms and flavors except for the hot stuff. Can't stand it and never have liked it since childhood. Way too sweet in almost a medicinal way. I am convinced that hot chocolate really isn't chocolate at all but an evil Communist plot!

Oh man, we are way off the reservation now. I would think anyone who didn't like hot chocolate is a prime candidate to be a Communist.

Yes, as you can see, someone is still bitter that @nodnol and I did not take him to Norway with us... I guess that is why he wants to be included in writing our trip report... Not sure what kind of stuff he would invent about our tales if we let him co-author.

Could be interesting, I could see him coming up with something equally as amusing as @Captain_Oblivious did for Julie and Sarah's horseback riding.

It was likely somewhere between 49-53 when we made it to the pool. That is, indeed, too cold for a Floridian to do anything but soak in a jacuzzi so that is what I did. I don't recall eating or drinking anything myself.

I think that's too cold for anyone to do anything besides soak in the Jacuzzi!

We actually had been at lunch before going to the mall and had been at Fuddruckers http://www.fuddruckers.com. I really liked the burger there and the nice thing is that they have a very nice condiment bar with stuff to put on your burger. Good place!

I haven't been there in ages, but I remember liking it when I had been there in the past.

The manager was really nice and offered us a voucher for a free cab ride if we thought that we could use that. At first we were a bit at a loss as we had the car, but then we thought that this actually would make getting back from the party so much easier as we could just walk over to the Contemporary and get a taxi from there and would not have to deal with getting to the parking lot on a crowded monorail or taking the crowded bus back to the resort.

I can see where that would come in handy!

It was very good, so naturally it was taken off the menu.

Isn't that always how it goes?

He loved his sandwich. I was not so sure. I had tried a meatball sub at Earl of Sandwich once and was underwhelmed, but I am not a fan of Earl of Sandwich sandwiches, so I thought I try it here as I love the idea of a meatball sub. But somehow I felt that it was very dry despite the tomato sauce. I decided that while I love the idea, I seem to not enjoy the reality of a meatball sub. I loved the fries though, I like Disney fries (as compared to Michael who doesn’t).

It's hard to find a really good meatball sub. I can't remember the place where I last had a great one, and if I could, I would go back. You need just the right balance of meatball, sauce, and cheese. Any one item out of balance and it just isn't good.

The chocolate was more luke warm then hot and it was the typical watery drink, but it was nice enough.

I have been spoiled by some of the best hot chocolate. Napa Rose has a holiday dessert of Hot Chocolate and homemade doughnuts that is just spectacular.

Castle with Christmas lights:

Just Beautiful! :worship:

I think it was on this cruise where our skipper tried to make a joke and asked whether anyone knew which river was Santa’s favourite river. One guy in the boat immediately said: The Amazon – it comes with free shipping. The whole boat laughed, but the skipper did not as that was not the correct answer! As you can see, it is the one joke that stuck in my mind, so it was either really good or really bad!

I want to know what the right answer to the joke was!

I really enjoyed the parade to my surprise as I am usually not a big parade person. The only other one that I really enjoyed so far was the Halloween parade.

I hope you like Paint the Night!

I don’t know, but to me these displays are a bit disconcerting (I was thinking the same about the one on the Fantasy). I just think of all the food that someone could have eaten and that will be thrown out at the end of the holiday season.

I feel the same way. While I am impressed by their craftsmanship, I hate that it goes to waste, but you can't eat it once it has been out in the air so long and possibly touched by people and stuff.

Trying to go back and get caught up a little, while I'm just sorta sitting around being a captured audience today.............:rolleyes1

I tried to capture some of the decorations, but feel like I did not really do a good job.

DSC06153.jpg
Beautiful decorations in WL, but you are correct......hard to get great pictures! Especially this tree............it is MASSIVE!

I love the special resort and park trees they have at Christmas with their unique theming!

Afterwards we decided to give the new “A Pirate's Adventure ~ Treasures of the Seven Seas” (that’s the official name on the website). It is kind of a theme park version of the Midship Detective Agency game that we played on the Fantasy. Just not with pictures, but with other interesting stuff. You sign up for it in a little hut along the walkway between Pirates and Frontierland. There you get a map with the first clue. At every station there happens something neat and you get your next clue. It is all in Adventureland and really a neat addition! It definitely made me look at stuff that I had never noticed before!

It's actually a fun addition that doesn't distract or detract from the environment you are in like that noisy SotK game. It really is worth your time -- adults and kids can enjoy it.
Yes this is a nice addition, and I agree with Michael that even adults can enjoy this also! Have done a few of these........need to get the maps and do the rest.

I really was not in the mood for picture taking that day due to the weather, but Michael said that I should take a picture of the lovely Frozen stage they had but infront of the castle. I declined at first, but then after a few steps thought of you my dear readers and turned around.
The things we do for our readers! :rotfl: But we DO appreciate the effort!

We arrived at the Starbucks which was packed. But they were extremely efficient in there! I was so impressed. It was about 6 times as large as any Starbucks I have seen here in Germany and there were a million people working behind the counter!
Knowing you.............you counted EVERY one of them! :scratchin

The ride is really cute! I thought the ride sensation in itself was a lot of fun. Milder than BTMRR, but because of the swing not as boring as a true kiddie coaster. The one show scene they added is very nice. And then there is a fun little bonus while you are waiting for your train to go into the station for unload, but I would not call this a real show scene.[I would ... I'll give them that.] However, the ride is over far too quickly. In some way it reminded me of Crush’s Coaster in Paris. Both rides leave you wondering why they left it at that and did not go the extra mile that you expect from Disney. Especially if you see what they did in Cars Land in California, it seems unfair that the Magic Kingdom did not get something of equal quality. And if you think it was a space issue – that is not true. There exist blue prints of a far longer layout with two real show scenes, but that was cut at some point. Why may always stay a mystery, but one could ponder that they need to cut the money for the My Magic + cost overruns from somewhere…
I agree with your assessment! There were some good points but overall when I rode it...........I was very UNDERwhelmed! They didn't go the extra mile.........or even the extra 100 meters IMO! :sad2:

I was under the belief that the discount was 20% off, but apparently they've been trying to fill shows so the discount was 50% off. That makes it a BARGAIN! I was thrilled to hear that.
Yes, that is a GREAT bargain! Always nice........:goodvibes

I was afraid the time on the ticket was when the show started, not when they began letting folks in (as I hadn't seen the show since the 1980s!) I was very concerned and couldn't reach my friends because my phone wasn't acting normally on the boat over. But we made it with like 3-4 minutes to spare and then had a wait to get in anyway. But it took what was a relaxing time and made it stressful and I just wasn't in the mood for it.
I am with you on that one! Seems like stressful is getting to be a little bit bigger concern with each trip. Always some new form of stressful popping up somewhere! :faint:

This is the chicken:

DSC06184.jpg
Yes......yes it is! And some fine looking fried chicken at that! :woohoo: I need to try some one trip soon............. ::yes::

Yes, it is.. FW and Pioneer Hall are part of MY WDW. Much like RC was before they closed it in 2001 and left it to rot in the swamps for the last 14 years. There's very little of the WDW I grew up with in the 70s-90s left and it saddens me greatly because what they've taken away hasn't, for the most part, been replaced by bigger and better things.
A lot of magic I remember as a boy isn't there anymore, so I agree! Fortunately, there are still a few gems if people take the time to find and enjoy them!

It was likely somewhere between 49-53 when we made it to the pool. That is, indeed, too cold for a Floridian to do anything but soak in a jacuzzi so that is what I did.
Pretty much anyone south of the Canadian snowbirds that come down during those times of the year. :lmao:

Ok, to clear up the big question of what we had for lunch: Michael and I took the time to discuss this over the phone as we knew that you readers would hate not knowing exactly what we ate that day!
Inquiring minds............. :scratchin

So, I gave him a call (for nearly one dollar per minute…), but got his voice mail. When we were just leaving the parking garage he called back (receiving his phone call cost one dollar per minute as well) and said that he would then like to get blue jeans. So, that’s why I went back. And even with paying stupid international roaming fees (they really are nothing else than a rip off!) the jeans were a fantastic deal!
Okay, I was going to ask if there was any real discount left after all that.............

40?!?!! That was the first time we met! You told me you were 27!!!!
I'm pretty sure she told me the same thing that trip............. :rolleyes1

And then it was time for one last look down Main Street:

DSC06257.jpg
Always a beautiful and festive sight.............well, except when it is the final one you get to enjoy! :rolleyes2

Great update Magdalene!! Timed perfectly too, I am on the Dis this weekend :rotfl2:I have never eaten at Pinnochio House , but have thought about it numerous times , we just never seem to be near there at lunch time, and we do love CHH!!! I also gues I have never been inside the Diamond Horseshoes as I don't remember that dance floor at all !! We always go to the dance in Tommorow land with the Incredibles . I really have to make a trip at Christmas again. Did they stop the Osborne Lights or not ????

Hi Rosie! Great to see you around here a little bit more recently!

We wanted to eat at CHH as well, but it was closed already. I was disappointed on both my last two trips as they seem to close mid afternoon already and I think they would be a great spot for dinner.

For a lazy day, you got a lot done. I have never liked jeans, but I would always bring some back for my sister in the past for the same reason. I loved all the photos of the castle. I will never be able to get enough of the castle all lit up. Did they not have the gingerbread Christmas tree at the Contemporary last year?

Corinna

You have the same luck as Marv.....

Must be a Disney conspiracy against all men - to get rid of their favorite food items!

The MVMCP is one event I have yet to do. Too funny about your shopping day, and how"ordinary" it was that details are not memorable.

MVMCP was really a lovely event! As with MNSSHP I think it is nothing that I need to do every year, but since there is no chance that I will be at WDW for every Halloween and/or Christmas season, it is unlikely that I will ever get a chance to do them every year. It is now 4 years since we did MNSSHP and I think I would love to do it again if I were at WDW this October.

The MK moving at time- that would have made me uneasy to say the least.

Oh! This was not the end of the moving theme parks yet!

Hi Magdalene! I think I'm all caught up!

Currently it has not been very difficult to stay caught up on this trip report... I hope to change this soon however!

I can't blame him there.

Well, Norway might sound really exotic to all of you, but for us it is as exotic as Canada is to you. :goodvibes Still, it was breathtakingly beautiful and I just sorted out a lot of pictures for Katharina who hopefully will get the trip report started soon!
I love Fuddruckers! You just have to be careful about how you spell/say it.:rotfl2:

I was very embarrassed that I forgot about it as I really enjoyed the burger there! Great place!

Wow, I didn't think there was anyone around who didn't like Earl of Sandwich.

I think I don't like the bread very much. To be it tastes very artificial. But that might just be the German bread snob in me speaking (all Germans are bread snobs thinking that we are the only country who can make good bread - which is not true as Denmark and Norway truly excel in that culinary discipline as well).

Heresy! Blasphemy!

:rotfl2:

Oh man, we are way off the reservation now. I would think anyone who didn't like hot chocolate is a prime candidate to be a Communist.

I hope you will still be reading along and not hold our Earl non-enthusiasm and Michael's hot chocolate aversion against us!!

But that might just be the German bread snob in me speaking (all Germans are bread snobs thinking that we are the only country who can make good bread - which is not true as Denmark and Norway truly excel in that culinary discipline as well).

Welcome to Austria!;)

It is now 4 years since we did MNSSHP and I think I would love to do it again if I were at WDW this October.

For me it is 6 years since MNSSHP and 4 years since Mickey's Halloween Party at Disneyland. This year I get to do both again and I can't wait.

all Germans are bread snobs

I can attest to this. The funny thing is that when I still lived in Germany, I was not even all that keen on bread. Now that I cannot readily get decent bread I really enjoy it when I am in Germany. When I was in Germany on duty travel a couple of weeks ago, it felt like I was eating my weight in bread.

Corinna

Could be interesting, I could see him coming up with something equally as amusing as @Captain_Oblivious did for Julie and Sarah's horseback riding.

Yes, he seems to have a bit of a talent for writing. But I will let Katharina decide on how much he gets to comment. I keep telling him that he should just post himself, but he does not want to do that...

I think that's too cold for anyone to do anything besides soak in the Jacuzzi!

Oh, these warm climate people!! @nodnol and I went swimming in a frozen lake when in the Bavarian winter last year and loved it!!

(to be honest we just spent 10 minutes in a hot sauna (200°F) and just dipped very briefly into the water - it was very refreshing!!)

I haven't been there in ages, but I remember liking it when I had been there in the past.

There are quite a few Fuddruckers in Southern California, but none really convenient for us.

I can see where that would come in handy!

I have taken taxis on previous trips a few times, especially after dinner to get back to the hotel. For us renting a car is quite expensive as we need to buy insurance. So, it was always cheaper to take a taxi a few times than rent a car for 10 days. But now I have my private chauffeur!

Isn't that always how it goes?

I guess. I am still sad that they changed my favorite dish at the California Grill...

It's hard to find a really good meatball sub. I can't remember the place where I last had a great one, and if I could, I would go back. You need just the right balance of meatball, sauce, and cheese. Any one item out of balance and it just isn't good.

Interesting. I guess you are right about the balance being off, that was definitely an issue. I just had not realized that this is what was a problem.

I have been spoiled by some of the best hot chocolate. Napa Rose has a holiday dessert of Hot Chocolate and homemade doughnuts that is just spectacular.

High end hot chocolate is quite a thing here in Germany. When I worked in Berlin there was a large chocolate shop in the neighborhood that had a cafe with a large hot chocolate menu - and we are talking first class real chocolate melted with milk. So good!

Just Beautiful! :worship:

You are going to see the Christmas castle rather soon yourself!

I want to know what the right answer to the joke was!

I don't remember... :sad2:

I hope you like Paint the Night!

We will see - I am sure that I am going to enjoy the experience of being with a group of friends who are all excited about it! :goodvibes

I feel the same way. While I am impressed by their craftsmanship, I hate that it goes to waste, but you can't eat it once it has been out in the air so long and possibly touched by people and stuff.

Yes, there is no way anyone could eat those gingerbread displays after the Christmas season. Just think how hard it must be and how much dust it has gathered. :crazy2:

Trying to go back and get caught up a little, while I'm just sorta sitting around being a captured audience today.............:rolleyes1

I guess I missed something there about you being captured!! But I am glad that I could provide some entertainment!

Beautiful decorations in WL, but you are correct......hard to get great pictures! Especially this tree............it is MASSIVE!

Somehow in the WL those decorations seem to fit the best. One of the reasons why this resort is so popular over Christmas!

I love the special resort and park trees they have at Christmas with their unique theming!

I really loved checking out the different ornaments. Some were so creative!

Yes this is a nice addition, and I agree with Michael that even adults can enjoy this also! Have done a few of these........need to get the maps and do the rest.

I really like the game as it is so unobtrusive. I definitely will play it again on my next visit.

he things we do for our readers! :rotfl: But we DO appreciate the effort!

I am sure you totally know how the fact that you are planning a trip report makes you do certain things...

Knowing you.............you counted EVERY one of them! :scratchin

Of course I did!!

And in case you are wondering how long it took me to count to one million: only a little less than a month! (Assuming that you can count 4 number in a second, that makes 1.440 numbers per hour, so 694,4 hours for 1.000.000 numbers.) The other interesting question is: what kind of surface would you need for 1.000.000 people? If they stood very close, would they all fit on the surface of the MK? But that is starting to become too complicated for me. Maybe an engineer could figure that out...

I agree with your assessment! There were some good points but overall when I rode it...........I was very UNDERwhelmed! They didn't go the extra mile.........or even the extra 100 meters IMO! :sad2:

Ouch - not even an extra 100 meters?? That is really harsh. But all I can say is that I think they tried with the swinging motion, but it just does fall flat in execution. Must have sounded like a brilliant idea though.

I am with you on that one! Seems like stressful is getting to be a little bit bigger concern with each trip. Always some new form of stressful popping up somewhere! :faint:

I am really glad that my serious planning phase is kind of behind me. Thanks to DVC and the fact that I had quite a lot of trips in the recent years I am no longer so concerned about what I do when I am at WDW. That takes out a lot of stress. If I think that Katharina and I were planning our first trip now, I would be so stressed out with FP+ etc. I found that taking a newbie for their first trip is the most stressful of trip planning situations!

Yes......yes it is! And some fine looking fried chicken at that! :woohoo: I need to try some one trip soon............. ::yes::

I think you would really enjoy the food and the entertainment at the HDDR! I am not sure what Pat could eat there though... But currently they have a great allergy chef there (or had last December), one of our friends had to speak to him because he has a nut allergy.

A lot of magic I remember as a boy isn't there anymore, so I agree! Fortunately, there are still a few gems if people take the time to find and enjoy them!

I just wish I had been able to see WDW in the 70s or 80s!!

Pretty much anyone south of the Canadian snowbirds that come down during those times of the year. :lmao:

You are all chicken!!

Okay, I was going to ask if there was any real discount left after all that.............

Yes, you would not believe how expensive jeans are in Europe! A pair of Levis 501 is 100 € (about 111 $ currently, at the time of the trip it was about 125$), but that price includes our 19% tax already.

I'm pretty sure she told me the same thing that trip............. :rolleyes1

Hey!!! You don't want to falsely accuse me of being a liar! :headache:

Always a beautiful and festive sight.............well, except when it is the final one you get to enjoy! :rolleyes2

I still prefer my final sight of Main Street to be a beautiful and festive one! :goodvibes

I'm all caught up Magdalene. I hope your cruise was fantastic!

Hi Glenn! The cruise was indeed fantastic! I hope you will soon be able to read all about it!

Apparently Marv was to concerned about salt and pepper shakers !!!:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Well, what do you expect from a guy who sometimes appears in spoon form??

Glad to give that time to catch up. :rolleyes1

Aha - you were detaining him!! :thumbsup2 Well done, I got a really nice long response from him out of it! ;)

For me it is 6 years since MNSSHP and 4 years since Mickey's Halloween Party at Disneyland. This year I get to do both again and I can't wait.

Sounds like it really was time for you to repeat the parties! Hope you are going to have a great time!

I just had a peek at wikipedia about bread and according to them, Germany has over 1300 different types of breads and has the highest consumption of bread per capita. Not sure how accurate this is. But I think the one thing I miss when I am abroad is the variety of bread that we have. So many different textures and tastes are available.

Have you ever considered trying to bake your own bread? It is not that difficult!
